  1. I guess the 1st option order will go to the B, C, D due to 8th and 6th Avenue CBTC, while the 2nd option order (most likely r211Ts) will go to Jamaica with the 8 car trains going to ENY. The base order and the 1st option order should be used to make the A,B,C and D trains fully NTT's. B and D trains often get rerouted via 8th Avenue, so both lines will need NTTs once 8th Avenue CBTC is active.
  2. I agree 100%. Both orders should have been included in this capital program. Also, CBTC is another big reason why all SMEE's need to be replaced.
  3. The base order will replace the r46s on the A/C. The first option order will make the C full length and allow the G to be full length with 8 car r160s. It will also allow the B and D to get NTTs for 8th and 6th Avenue CBTC.
  4. Exactly. Not everyone in this forum is a transit worker. There are rail fans and everyday riders (who simply want better service) using this forum.
  5. The MTA leadership does not know how to manage money. They run the subway, buses, LIRR, MNRR and the tolls from many of the bridges and tunnels in NYC. Therefore, they make millions of dollars in revenue in addition to the billions of dollars they got from the federal government. Yet, they are not being transparent with riders in regards to how they are spending the money, they are falling behind in all the projects including CBTC, purchasing new subway cars, SAS, etc and they have the nerve to complain that they are "broke" and looking for dumb excuses to raise the fares.
  6. It makes sense for the r262's to run on the [(1)], [(3)] and [(6)] because the r142's don't have LCD's like the r160's and r179's and it will be a hassle to displace the r142's from the lines that they are currently operating. Also, the top leadership of the MTA needs to seriously take financial literacy. What are they doing with the billions of dollars that they got from Congress??? Ridership is not low. Trains and buses are packed during rush hours and on Saturdays. Ridership is increasing. Considering how long it takes for new subway cars to be built, delivered and tested, they should have included the r262's and whatever car fleet is replacing the r68's into this current capital program. Look at all the delays with the r211's, while the r44s and r46's are breaking down like crazy.
  7. I agree. Yard space should not stop C and G trains from becoming full length.
  8. I doubt that once ALL r211's are in service that there will be enough NTT's to make the whole B division 100% NTT's. The r68's can only stay on the NQW due to CBTC. Keep in mind that the Rockaway Park Shuttle becomes another branch of the A during rush hours and r68's cannot run on the A. Also, keep in mind that SMEEs used to run on the N W before 2010. Therefore, there is no valid excuse for the NW not getting r68's. I am pretty sure that the MTA will use the same strategy that was used back then to deal with the rollsigns at Astoria. Also, the NW doesn't get rerouted to 6th Avenue. The Q can always borrow r160's from the B during the weekends. As for the NQW actually getting r160's, it depends on how many r160's gets displaced from Jamaica to CI. We have to remember that the B will get the r160's first due to 8th and 6th Avenue CBTC, while Concourse gets r211A's.
  9. Im not sure if the r211S's can be configured to run on the subway. However, I think the MTA should have purchased more than 75 r211S's, so that they can also be used for IBX. IBX should not be built as commuter rails because it will be too expensive for riders. IBX should be heavy rail similar to SIR, which is a rail that uses subway-car-like rolling stock and will allow the fare to be the same as the subway and bus.
  10. ENY doesn't need ALL 8 car trains in the B division. Since, the G is in Jamaica, it makes more sense for ENY to send r160's to the G and get the 8 car r179's from the C. We need to think about the future. Ridership is increasing and the C will need to go full length with 10 car trains and G will need to go full length with 8 car trains.
  11. The NQW are not getting any r211's due to 8th and 6th Avenue CBTC. The NQW will get all r68's and they may get r160's once all option orders are delivered and in service. The NQW will not be fully NTT's until the r68's are retired. So people in Astoria will need to take a chill pill, and stop acting like spoiled brats. SI will get the r211S's. There's no question about it.
  12. The problem with skip-stop service is that riders that ride the JZ between Sutphin Boulevard–JFK and Myrtle Avenue-Broadway experience longer wait times during rush hours than during off peak, which doesn't make sense. It should be the opposite. At least the 1 is more reliable now than when the 9 was running.
  13. The J needs to be adjusted. It can be done by eliminating the Z and the skip-stop service. The Z is a useless line just like the 9. Ridership on the J is not as high in comparison to the L and G.
  14. Most likely yes. I think the first option order will be split between 207, Concourse (r211A's) and Jamaica (r211T's), displacing the r160's to the B.
  15. This is why the MTA should not wait until old subway cars are falling apart before they purchase new subway cars. The R262's and replacement orders for the r68's should have been included in this capital program. It takes years to build, deliver and test new subway cars. The r62's and r68's are in good shape now, but will they be in good shape 5 years from now?? It costs money to buy new subway cars, but it also cost a lot of money to maintain old subway cars.
  16. The older techs are more vulnerable. Many of these vandals have been destroying rollsigns and getting into cab doors making unprofessional announcements. Some TA workers have been attacked by these vandals.
  17. I'm more concerned about the subway conquesting that has been affecting the r46's, r62's, r68's. The most alarming part is that it seems that teens may be involved in this issue that is hurting service on lines that use these subway cars: 1, 3, 6, A, B, C, D, N, Q, W. If teens are involved in subway conquesting, then those teens and their parents need to be held accountable.
  18. Something to keep in mind is that not ALL r46's will be stored when all the r211's are delivered. They will gradually be scrapped as more r211's enter service. The MTA should definitely wait until the base order of r211's are in service before scrapping r46's and it should be done gradually. Ridership is increasing and the MTA needs to avoid a fleet shortage. There was a fleet shortage in 2020 due to issues on the r179's. Fortunately, ridership was low at that time due to COVID.
  19. Exactly. The smartest thing the MTA should do is not to scrap the r46's right away. Yes, they should retire the worst performing r46's first, but they should be temporarily stored as emergency fleet until most of the base order of the r211's is in service and performing well.
  20. The MTA doesn't publicly give exact dates when new subway cars enter service. It may happen in November, it may happen sooner or it may happen later. It makes more sense for the MTA to fix as many issues as possible before the r211's enter service to avoid a repeat of the r179's. Let's be patient. The r211's will enter service and the r46's will retire.
  21. The main issue with the r62's especially on the #1 train is the terrible air conditioning during the summer. Other than that, there are in good shape for now.
  22. The only Broadway lines that get rerouted on 6th Avenue are the Q and R trains. The R already has NTTs. Also, the MTA can add more crew to change the roll signs in Astoria like they did before 2010. Therefore, the NQW will most likely become a mixed fleet of r160's/r68's until the r68's are fully retired. If Jamaica is getting r211's, that means that a good chunk of the option orders will consist of open gangway trains.
  23. Check out this article: https://www.ny1.com/nyc/all-boroughs/transit/2022/07/21/mta-faces-decades-of-debt-as-ridership-remains-low?cid=share_clip The MTA executives need to stop talking so much nonsense and take some basic Math and Financial Literacy. There is no way that ridership is low when trains are packed during rush hours and they are packed on Saturdays. I ride the trains every day, so I'm not talking nonsense. There is no way that the MTA is in debt when they got billions of dollars from the federal government. These executives DON'T know how to manage money. I just hope they don't screw things up with the r211's and CBTC.
  24. I agree 100%. The r211's, CBTC, and the r262's should be made top in order for the MTA to provide better service. The MTA is not thinking about the future.
  25. It's been happening everywhere, even outside NYC. Look at all the mass shootings that have been happening in other states. This is a national problem. The federal government needs to take action. There needs to be gun control and more federal funding for mental health.
