  1. Also, the 3, D, J will see service increases as well. In terms of what would option 2 be, it will depend on how testing goes with the r211Ts. Option 1 should definitely be used to make the C full length and make the B, D, 100% NTTs either directly or indirectly. 8th Avenue CBTC should not be activated until option 1 trains are in service.
  2. I understand how frustrating it is for subway service to be constantly delayed due to the r46's constantly breaking down. However, we don't want a repeat of what happened with the r179's in 2020. Therefore, it is crucial that the MTA and Kawasaki fix the issues on the r211's. At this point, all we can do is be patient and hope for the best.
  3. This is what happens when the MTA waits until the last minute to purchase new subway cars. Yes, the issues with the r211's will be fixed and they need to be fixed. However, while these issues are being fixed, we may be facing a subway car shortage. The r46's are constantly breaking down causing delays in service and ridership is much higher than in 2020 when the r179's had to be grounded due to issues, which caused the A/C trains to borrow trains from Jamaica and ENY.
  4. If that were the case, then the B should have had the r46's, since it doesn't run 24/7. It was explained in previous posts that Concourse yard is the reason why the B doesn't have r46's. I don't know what is the issue with the B/D getting NTTs. Is it because the B/D doesn't go to Astoria?? 8th Avenue is getting CBTC, which includes 59th Street. Therefore, like it or not, the B/D will get NTTs whether it's the r211's or the r160's, but both lines will most likely have the same fleet.
  5. It makes sense. However, the issue with the B getting the r46's is that Concourse prefers the r68's for both the B/D plus Concourse can't handle more than 1 fleet. That is why the B/D will get r211's after the A/C in addition to the fact that the r68's wont be able to stay on the B/D due to 8th Avenue CBTC.
  6. We need to be patient with the r211's. In the meantime, I think that the MTA needs to have a contingency plan with the r46's, which are overused and in bad shape. All CI r68's should be used on the N/Q during the weekends. No Pitkin/207 r179's should be stored during the weekends. Since ENY got more r179's than originally planned, it would be a good idea for ENY to temporarily loan 3-4 eight car r179's to the C until the pilot plus 2-3 production r211's are in Service. This plan would allow the worst performing r46's to run less often.
  7. I agree with you 100%. It seems that subway service is declining. Too many delays, especially within the last 5 days and the MTA is not informing riders about these delays neither through the website or on the stations. Today I had to wait 15 minutes for either a northbound B or D train to go the Bronx. It happened about 4:10pm. The D didn't appear on the countdown clock and No information was provided neither on the website or the train station on why northbound BD trains were delayed at that time. Sorry for the off topic rant, but I don't think it's right that riders have to wait 15 minutes for a train for "no reason", especially if these riders are either rushing to get home from school/work or they are rushing to pick up their kids from school or they are rushing to go to night school. Going back to the r211's. We all need to be patient. Production trains are being delivered. Therefore, in a matter of weeks we'll be seeing a handful of r211's running on the A.
  8. Not only that. What is also causing people to be very impatient with the r211's is the fact that the r44's and r46's are in terrible shape causing delays in subway service due to constant mechanical issues. People are basically desperate for the r46's to retire. They have the worst MDBF
  9. That is the reason why I said in previous posts that the MTA should not wait until old subway cars are falling apart to replace them. Look at the r44's and r46's right now. New subway cars should be ordered 10 years before old subway fleets are due for retirement to ensure a smooth transition and to allow new trains to be thoroughly tested and prevent older trains that are in terrible shape from staying in service. This is why replacement orders for the r68's should have been included in this capital program. The r68's are in great shape now, but will be the same 10 years from now?? A lot can happen in 10 years.
  10. Don't expect the pilot train to be back this weekend. The A/C is being rerouted this weekend. I just hope the MTA runs all r179's plus the best performing r46's to prevent any additional delays that could cripple service on the ACDEF trains.
  11. Let's be patient folks. It's better to catch any issues now and not have a repeat of what happened with the r179's or worse the Washington Metro train issues on the newest transit. Let's look at the bright side, when the pilot train passes the 30 days, we are going to see multiple production trains entering service on the A almost simultaneously.
  12. With good maintenance, the r68's can last another 10-12 years. The issue is CBTC, which is needed in the entire system and the MTA did originally promised to install it system wide. The IND portion will be getting CBTC first. That's why subway lines that run on the IND need NTTs, including r211's. Installing CBTC on the IND portion and not putting CBTC on the rest of the B division lines is like putting a bandaid on a very deep wound. Improving service on some lines, while worsening service on other lines is not how we fix the system
  13. It is very typical for the MTA to wait until subway cars are falling apart to replace them. If the MTA was really smart, they would have included the r262's and whatever car order that will replace the r68's in the current capital program. Why?? Because a subway car is not a bus. Buses can be replaced quickly. It takes several years to design, build, deliver and test new subway cars. I'm pretty sure that Broadway will eventually get CBTC once CBTC is installed in the IND sections of the subway and I doubt that the r68's will get CBTC equipped. What's going to happen with the r68's if a huge chunk of the B division is CBTC and their replacement is not even built???
  14. Roll sign errors is nothing but another excuse from some NW train riders who refuse to accept the fact that the r68's will replace the r46's. It is not the first time the NW has SMEEs. FYI! The NW had SMEEs before 2010. I'm pretty sure that the MTA will handle the roll signs the same way it was handled before 2010. NW riders need to sit down and relax. I'm pretty sure that the NW may get a few r160's once the 2nd option order of r211's. So NW riders need to stop the whining and be grateful that the r46's will leave the NW within the next 2-3 years and be grateful that the NW may run more often once all r211's are in service.
  15. I never mentioned in any of my posts that the NQ will get r211's. What I mentioned in the previous post is that since the r211's will solve the subway car shortage, it would be a good idea to send the B to Coney Island via Sea Beach, while the N can go to Brighton Beach to improve service on the BDNQ since a lot of the delays (especially northbound) happen around Dekalb Avenue. Also, I did mention that the BD will most likely get r211's because 59th Street is included in 8th Avenue CBTC and 6th Avenue will get CBTC as well, so the r68's cannot stay on the BD.
  16. This plan won't solve all the issues on the Broadway line. However, it will speed up service on Dekalb Avenue, an area where most of the delays on the BDNQ happen. All N trains need to go to Astoria. I just hope the MTA considers this plan once all r211's are in service, since it will benefit Broadway, Brighton, 6 AV express and CPW local.
  17. One possible solution to speed service is to have the N go to Brighton Beach and have the B go to Coney Island via Sea Beach that way both the NQ stop at Dekalb via Manhattan Bridge, while both the BD skip Dekalb Avenue This solution will also provide express service on Brighton 7 days a week and will force the B to run 7 days a week (Between CI and Bedford Park during the weekdays and Between CI and 145 during the weekends). The only downside is that we would have to wait for all the r211's to be service to ensure that there will be enough subway cars to allow this change.
  18. It is not the first time that Broadway has SMEE's. Let's not forget that the W ran between 2001 and 2010. How did the MTA handled the rollsigns during that period?? I'm pretty sure the MTA can handle the rollsign issues the same way they did before. Broadway will become 100% NTTs when the r68's get replaced.
  19. AC riders have the right to complain about not getting new trains. Also, the A C have been for many years the two most neglected subway lines in the system. A and C riders pay the same fare as everyone else. Fortunately, the MTA finally listened to them and both lines are getting well deserved TLC with the r179's, r211's and CBTC on 8th Avenue.
  20. A subway car shortage in the B division will cause severe service reduction on all lettered lines. As a result, a large amount of riders will avoid riding the lettered lines and ride the number lines instead (which are already overcrowded) causing more overcrowding, which will increase dwell times in stations creating more delays. In summary, A division lines will be affected by a subway car shortage in the B division. Let's cross our fingers with the r211's.
  21. In other words, if the r211's continued to be delayed, we could face a severe subway car shortage that will affect the whole system. Keep in mind that ridership is much higher than in 2020 and yes the r46's are in really bad shape.
  22. Exactly. I agree On one hand, some people are very eager to see more r211's in service, which is understandable. The r46's are in really bad shape, constantly breaking down, causing a lot of delays in service. On the other hand, some people still can't accept the fact that the r32's are retired and are looking for whatever excuse to trash the r211's the same way they are trashing the r179's, which is slowly becoming one of the most reliable fleets and I am very confident that the r211's will also become a very reliable fleet. Out with the old. In with the new.
  23. I doubt that something big could happen with the r211's. The pilot r211 train did 2 years of testing unlike the pilot train for the r179's, which only did 1 year of testing. Even the pilot r160 did 1 year of testing and it performed better than the pilot r179's.
  24. Let's be patient. Hopefully, by July the A will most likely be 50% NTTs.
  25. I wouldn't be surprised if the MTA does that. The open gang way trains will work best on the lines that have the highest riderships.
