  1. Exactly. NQW riders need to take a chill pill. They had NTTs before and they will eventually get NTTs in less than 10 years from now. Just because a few rich people ride the NQW trains doesn't mean that they are entitled to new trains. Low income people pay the same fare as the rich people. At least the MTA is using some common sense in regards to CBTC. 6th Avenue needs to go after 8th Avenue.
  2. That would be ideal. However, Gov. Hochul said that IBX is going to be light rail. Not crazy about it. I prefer IBX to be similar to SIR. Light rails instead should be built in the Bronx and Staten Island.
  3. True, but the G currently uses r160's from Jamaica.
  4. I agree. The G serves areas in Brooklyn that are gentrified and are experiencing enormous population growth. Therefore, ridership on the G will literally explode in any moment. The G needs full length trains full time. The issue is that there is not enough 10 car trains to make both the C and G full length, but there is a huge surplus of 8 car trains. That is why the G will get 8 car trains.
  5. Why would the G go back to 5 cars once it becomes full length?? Once the G goes full length, it is going to stay full length 24/7.
  6. The issue is that there aren't enough 10 car trains to make the C and G full length, but there is a huge surplus of 8 car trains. IMO ALL r211's need to be 10 car trains and the 2nd option order should be r211T's.
  7. Thank you. This is why the MTA needs to be audited by the state and federal government. It is embarrassing that many US cities and towns are running buses for Free and their subways are more reliable. The MTA gets billions of dollars from the federal government, but instead of managing the money efficiently, they just keep making dumb excuses to raise the fares, while service on buses and trains keep getting worse.
  8. Does the L really need that extra capacity? The G needs to go full length once the r179's get displaced from the C. IMO I think the 8 car r211's should go to the G or M, the JZ gets all the 8 car r179's, the L gets all the r143's plus some r160's.
  9. The G will need some of the 8 car r160's. If ENY still has high spare factor after the G becomes full length, then it would be a great idea to extend the Z to 4th Avenue to make the Z a more useful line and provide more local service on 4th Avenue.
  10. The 2nd option order will include 8 car trains, but it is still unclear if those 8 car trains will be r211As or r211T's. If those 8 car trains will consist of r211Ts, then it would make sense to put them either on the G, L or M due to ridership and CBTC, while the JZ can keep all the 8 car r179's.
  11. Yes, rent and food increases need to stop. Section 8 vouchers should be available to all low income people. Also, minimum wage needs to go up $18 an hour and the state needs to mandate all employers to give $1/hr raise every year. Prices are too high, but salaries are stagnant.
  12. This is why this bill needs to be approved, so that people can ride the bus for free. There are some farebeaters that are crooks. However, there are so many people right now that are underemployed or living paycheck to paycheck struggling to make ends meet because things are too expensive and are farebeating because they can't afford to pay $127 a month.
  13. This is why the state needs to audit the MTA. I know people who either worked for the MTA or are still working with the MTA and they tell me that the top people of the MTA are not managing the budget correctly.
  14. I don't believe this data. I ride the trains and buses everyday. They are overcrowded during rush hours and on Saturdays.
  15. This came out today: https://www.ny1.com/nyc/all-boroughs/news/2022/12/15/states-senator-gianaris-on-new-legislation-aiming-to-improve-mta-while-balancing-budget I hope this bill gets passed. This bill needs to also include auditing the MTA to ensure that they are managing their budget efficiently. There is no doubt that one of the biggest issues with the MTA is that they don't know how to manage the budget. They got billions of dollars from the Federal government and yet service is getting worse. They got the nerve to find lame excuses (like "ridership is low", which is not true) to raise fares and cut service. Also, they are taking their sweet time to buy new subway cars. The r262's and whatever is replacing the r68's should have been included in this current Capital program. Notice how service on trains that use r46's have gotten worse. The r46's are breaking down like flies. If delays on the r211 persists, we are going to face a subway car shortage that will cripple the system.
  16. For now, but is very possible that the 2nd option order may be r211Ts if all goes well with the 2 ten car base order of r211Ts.
  17. No, SIR doesn't have high ridership in comparison to subway lines such as the E, F, and all the number lines. All r211Ts need to go to Jamaica since it has the highest ridership.
  18. Coney Island needs to utilize all the r68's from the B for the NQ trains during the weekends to give the r46s some rest. Same with Pitkin/207, they need to utilize all the r179's during the weekends as well. All three yards need to give the r46's as much rest as possible. 207 should consider loaning a few r179's from ENY until there's a good number of the base order of r211's in service.
  19. That's also a possibility. Either way, the B will get NTTs before the NQW due to CBTC and the bulk of the first option order will go to 207 and Concourse.
  20. I guess the 1st option order will go to the B, C, D due to 8th and 6th Avenue CBTC, while the 2nd option order (most likely r211Ts) will go to Jamaica with the 8 car trains going to ENY. The base order and the 1st option order should be used to make the A,B,C and D trains fully NTT's. B and D trains often get rerouted via 8th Avenue, so both lines will need NTTs once 8th Avenue CBTC is active.
  21. I agree 100%. Both orders should have been included in this capital program. Also, CBTC is another big reason why all SMEE's need to be replaced.
  22. The base order will replace the r46s on the A/C. The first option order will make the C full length and allow the G to be full length with 8 car r160s. It will also allow the B and D to get NTTs for 8th and 6th Avenue CBTC.
  23. Exactly. Not everyone in this forum is a transit worker. There are rail fans and everyday riders (who simply want better service) using this forum.
  24. The MTA leadership does not know how to manage money. They run the subway, buses, LIRR, MNRR and the tolls from many of the bridges and tunnels in NYC. Therefore, they make millions of dollars in revenue in addition to the billions of dollars they got from the federal government. Yet, they are not being transparent with riders in regards to how they are spending the money, they are falling behind in all the projects including CBTC, purchasing new subway cars, SAS, etc and they have the nerve to complain that they are "broke" and looking for dumb excuses to raise the fares.
  25. It makes sense for the r262's to run on the [(1)], [(3)] and [(6)] because the r142's don't have LCD's like the r160's and r179's and it will be a hassle to displace the r142's from the lines that they are currently operating. Also, the top leadership of the MTA needs to seriously take financial literacy. What are they doing with the billions of dollars that they got from Congress??? Ridership is not low. Trains and buses are packed during rush hours and on Saturdays. Ridership is increasing. Considering how long it takes for new subway cars to be built, delivered and tested, they should have included the r262's and whatever car fleet is replacing the r68's into this current capital program. Look at all the delays with the r211's, while the r44s and r46's are breaking down like crazy.
