  1. So I guess you can't use them when you want!! Are you on probation for one year??!! How is the presence of TWU in MTA?
  2. The 12 sick days you have. You get that after probation? Are you able to use them whenever you like. For example a bad weather storm. I get 8 sick days however I can use them whenever I choose any time 3 days or more a doctors note is needed.
  3. Who can afford to live in nyc on anything under than $45k per yr?? Unless living with parents and who 30 yrs old at that??
  4. I disagree. You see if you make good money and have a good job at 26 and are making let's say $95k and earn more the next few yrs. And you can make more each year at that job than you would make at MTA I feel like you're better off at that job. Your earning potential for age 26-66 would serve you better you can save that money if you earn more.
  5. That's great!! If you're young enough the pension shouldn't be a make or break in decision making. I made $81k last year on base salary. With a somehwhat life lol. Should be making $95k or so this yr. However my job is crying broke. Jobs pension just got better but MTA pension still better. Leaning towards staying where I'm at. May go to PE when it happens and ask several questions in person. Anyhow great for all of you making moves.
  6. Maybe they didn't read the letter carefully. I'm trying to recall I think for the test and opa I wore a fitted both times. Almost everyone was dressed down those days.
  7. This is exactly, 💯percent how I felt when reading all the times I've seen people going for hours to go again and again and again. Seems like this list is managed poorly when it comes to appointing people. By making them take the drug test and physical repeatedly along with the rest of the pre employment paperwork. Fact is one day i understand. Perhaps a second day half the time. However a 7+ hour day is unacceptable to wait along and then have to do that a few more times smh. I have empathy for your unfortunate mismanagement of your time by the hiring process for conductors.
  8. I don't know if they just give up. Some people have to decide if this is the right job for them. Sometimes they decide no. Sometimes they're better off where they are or another civil service job calls em. In any case thanks to all of you on all your info.
  9. 12.a year is legit. 32? I think that was a typo. So 12 each year? That's official. I get 8 at my job.
  10. I get the being at the job on time and even when snow storms occur however they as well as every job should value my time and everyone else's. You don't get time back. Curious how many sick days do you get and if they run out and you take some is that a problem?? Lateness has to be strictly enforced too? Lastly is your union strong?? Thanks for all your responses and everyone here who helps. I wish all of you nothing but the best of luck.
  11. Great post. I said that earlier transit should value everyones time. To have you keep filling out paperwork when you won't be called makes no sense and is a disregard for your time.
  12. You can't skip the first pe appt since it appears you get multiple apps? Perhaps I can call them. You have her or Ms Vargas' number?
  13. Out 5 mos? Started 5 mos ago or out on leave for 5 mos? Max is 16 hrs right? I did a 19 or 19.5 day last year and an 18 hr once or twice at the hotel.
  14. The whole take multiple pre employment dates seems bad planned out. They should value our time. I understand once doing it and drug test 3 mos before start or sooner.
  15. My job actually offers 401k matches max 4%. However if hoy accept the pension you can't get the matching 401k. So I do have an IRA Roth acct I set up last tax season.
  16. OK here's my dilemma and ima go to the pre employment most probably when it's my turn. I'm at this moment earning $30.40 per hr as of July I go up to almost $32 per hr. Conductor starts at $22.50 or so. Overtime for me is after 35 hrs night time differential is $1.50 more from 8am-6am. I get free food at work. Decent food actually. Health insurance covered by union dues of $50 per biweekly paycheck. Last yr at $26.75 until late December and $26 until July I earned at base rate $81,500. If I would've been at max rate which I get Dec 2020 or if I leave and go to another Hotel property now my rate will be $37.70 or so. The only however big reason for me to join Mta is their pension my unions pension is trash at $1250 per mo after 20 yrs I believe. I have a tough decision to make. Anyway if I was to stay on the same pace as last yr at my rate I would earn around $93k. Can I make at least $75k per yr first yr while having somewhat of a life. I can't really afford my costs if earn less than $75k. Thanks Farrock I think we've spoken before.
  17. Great questions and answers. Ver informative. So first few years sounds like not that much money available.
  18. You're about 3xs away from the number they are up to. It's gonna take some time. Relax and check this forum for updates where they are up to.
  19. Going with how the numbers are moving. I'm guessing perhaps spring or summer of 2020. Just being realistic. In the meantime keep doing your thing. Wherever you work or apply for other jobs.

  21. Yea I've thought this as well. I will decide when the time comes. Thanks for your opinion.
  22. Mta pension is the only thing that has me intrigued. Pension for hotel job is $1,200 per mo after 20yrs contributing. That's weak. I can probably make more at the hotel. Also medical is free. Union dues about $100 per month. Ambience is better than being in a subway all day. It's gonna be a hard decision. Mta job as long as you don't do dumb ish is pretty secure.
  23. Isn't it top pay after 6 yrs? On your 7th year? Cause after 5 full years make me reconsider perhaps going for it. My raise coming next month at the hotel I'm going up to $30.50 ot after 35 hrs. On base salary I'm on pace for 83,500. At full salary I would be on pace for $112k or so. With my new bump in raise, next year on same pace I would've earned $95,00.
  24. Overtime is how people make real money in Union jobs it doesnt surprise me he did what he did . Im on pace for $90k this yr at the hotel and my base pay is less than $50k. Ot $ starts ăfter 35hrs for me. Ive slowed down now. But before ot for anything lol.
