  1. Great! I just tweeted @NYCT_Subway on Twitter to ask about it - I've noticed they're pretty good about just answering questions (I know someone who got an answer about what lights they use in the tunnels – changing to LEDs – and also what some bars on the tracks were at 7 Av on the – Culver CBTC equipment) about more technical aspects of the system. If they give some timeline I'll be sure to post the response here.
  2. Wow! That legitimately looks like it could help with T/Os being too slow near timers to avoid tripping them. Is this planned to be rolled out across the system?
  3. Quick question: you all know that little bend in the Steinway Tubes, about 3/4 of the way from Grand Central to Vernon-Jackson? Is there any reason they had to build the tunnel with that little segment, or is it just a weird oddity from construction? I ask because I've noticed now every seems to take it at 35+ mph, sending the whole car flying from side to side. It's quite the doozy of a bump, that's for sure...
  4. As I understood it, really nothing is getting retired until the R211s begin arriving, as increased demand and car shortages have made it necessary to keep any and all cars they can run on the B division in service.
  5. Which R179 on the ? I remember 3150-3157 was the first to run on the , so is it still that set?
  6. I know, that's what I've looked at to see where the passenger car contract orders fit in with the other contract orders. I still wonder why they've started having gaps in the contract orders...maybe things were drafted and then shelved so they just move on? Seems weird that they wouldn't just sequentially number contracts.
  7. I like these new videos they've been putting out. Really neat to see some of the behind the scenes stuff being explained by the MTA itself.
  8. Well remember, there are orders in between these contracts, so I think they generally just go up as they get more railcar-related contracts. Not all of them are even things like new work equipment, sometimes there are R contracts for stuff like HVAC systems. It would make sense though that the "generations" of cars would fall into different numbers (R1XX, etc.)
  9. The is going to have quite the variety of cars! R32s, 42s, 46s, and 179s!
  10. I think given the B division fleet shortages, the R42s might just stay even as surplus cars just for worst-case scenarios and rainy days. I don't think anything's getting scrapped until the 211s begin to arrive.
  11. Oooh, good point. It'd be interesting for the to have 32s, 42s, 46s, and 179s to top it all off.
  12. I'd also like to know. The seems like a weird place to put the 42s.
  13. I'd also think riders would prefer more weekend service into Manhattan, not a weekend-only additional service between Brooklyn and Queens. If riders want to use the , it's already available to transfer from the and (if someone decided to transfer at 74 St for some reason) at Court Square.
  14. I do too. I remember Byford said even with the Canarsie shutdown up in the air he still wanted to see service improvements like full-length G trains happen regardless.
  15. Huh, I had no idea. That's gonna be real nice. So will the 179s move back to ENY to move R160s to CI, or will they go to CI for the G?
  16. If I can offer my guess, it'd be that LTA was referring to how Ferrer and the pro-Cuomo-L-plan brass pretty much danced around every question from the skeptical board members (like Polly Trottenberg, who went hard grilling Ferrer), and offered little to no answers to the questions they were asked. Despite this clear lack of concrete info and plans regarding the new Canarsie plans, they (Ferrer and co.) still were putting their support behind the new plan as if, to quote one of the board members asking about any cons to the new plan, "you're saying it's Jesus, Moses, and Mohammed all rolled into one."
  17. My understanding was that the R32s being moved to the , as well as the incoming 5-car R179 sets (to make 10-car trains on the ) would push R46s to the for supplemental 600' service, but that the would still have a mix of both 480' and 600' trains. If the R32s and the 10-car R179s can push enough R46s to the from the , that would make sense, but I'm not sure whether or not the numbers would work out in that case.
  18. Ah, thanks for the info. Any idea if the 179s will be assigned permanently to the C, or if they'll move back to ENY once these kinks are worked out. Additionally, any timeframe for when the pulled cars will go back into service?
  19. I've been following the issues with the R179s, and someone said they waited along the C for an hour during the Friday rush and saw no 179s. Have they all been pulled from the C due to the intercar spring issues?
