Forgot to post this yesterday, there was an MTA police SUV parked at Rockaway Parkway (L) station. First time I seen them guarding NYCT property, they usually only guard the two MTA commuter railroads.

Rockaway Parkway is the easiest station to fare beat, just simply walk into the terminal where the buses enter. I wonder why MTA police was guarding that station as I don't think NYPD even bothers with farebeaters anymore.

I remember a couple months ago they had MTA employees standing by the gates , making sure no one went through the temporary gate while they were completing renovations

So your premise is simply to make the A crews happy by keeping the R160's and give the CI crews "the lemons" because they work the A and the would never work the N/Q/W?  How do you think those crews would feel about that?

The swap you advocate will not happen because the F will eventually get those R160's back because the E/F/M/R must be exclusive R160 due to upcoming CBTC and the number of R160's that CI has assigned is lower than the number of R179's the A line has assigned.

There are 140 R179's assigned to A service and about 100 R160's assigned to N/Q/W service.  No way would Pitkin Yd get 100 R160's and keep 40 R179's.

I think he knows this already

I have an honest question for you posters about subway,  bus,  and railroad ridership in these troubled times. If the (MTA) website clearly states that ridership is for essential and Phase 1 workers what's the justification for so many people who don't fall into either category to be using public transportation at all ? I've seen TV news reports,  spoken to essential workers,  read posts on the forum,  and talked with Transit employees and the answers are all over the place. Let me make myself clear upfront. Because of my age and personal experience I am not your typical poster or rider. I'm a Suffolk county resident now who,  except for an emergency,  has no desire to use public transportation anywhere in the NYC metropolitan area. I don't have to travel except to take my wife to work.  She's an essential worker employed less than 2 miles away. Most of my younger family members are working from home in NYC, Nassau and Suffolk. What I've picked up is anecdotal from active Transit employees and my fellow posters. Some of my former colleagues have been quarantined because of the virus. One has died from the virus. The assumption is that most of them were infected by the general public ridership. If I was still an active employee l definitely would have no love for the non-essential ridership who might unwittingly put me and my family at risk. I watched the recent news about the nationwide protests and focused on the mask use issue. We've had some local protests in the City and on the Island where some people ignored the common sense mask rules altogether. Likewise I'm reading posts on the forum about bus and subway service and equipment and I have to ask myself why is anyone who isn't an essential or Phase 1 worker putting themselves and my coworkers at risk ? Personally I'd be more inclined to justify the protesters reasoning over that of the casual rider. That's just my opinion but I want to hear the reasoning from the other side. No hard feelings either way.  Carry on.

Most people don’t have any other modes of transportation and can’t afford or straight up don’t want to pay for an Uber and Lyft when they know that the trains and buses are right here still working

In terms of frequency yes. So far, all the trains have been running on a weekday non-rush hour schedule. In other words, no B to the Bronx, no Z trains, no express 6 and 7 trains and no A to Rockaway park.

We have to wait and see how often the A and C will run tomorrow.

I thought someone said the (Z) was running at one point

    (MTA)SERVICE CHANGES

A protest on the tracks at Canal Street lead to 4 people being struck by a southbound (R) train , and 7 people being struck by a northbound (W) train.

    Due to the unfortunate circumstances:

The (R)(W) Canal Street station is closed due to NYPD and paramedic action

    (R) Trains are running along the (N) line in between Prince Street and DeKalb Avenue.

(RR) service is running ever 30 minutes in between City Hall and 95th Street, turning around on the express tracks at Canal Street.

    (W) trains are running on the (N) line between Prince Street and 36th Street, the last stop. (W) trains are not suspended due to increases in demand

We give our apologies to anyone related to those involved in this tragic event. JK, both of the drivers now have PTSD and it's your fault. Stay off the gosh darn tracks!

this isn’t a G.O. , I think the what if thread would be better for a post like this.. but I think that last part was kinda unnecessary

Here's a hard one: What if heavy snow makes all aboveground tracks unusuable. Note, the Manhattan Bridge would still be open.

like only elevated structures in the whole system or all tracks not in a tunnel ?

😂..Couldn't been that long ago...Before the tunnel shutdown it wasn't saying that...

you right 😂, not a very long time but it’s been like that for a while now , I think during the tunnel shutdown is when they made the announcement change

  8. Multiple Impacts

There are delays and multiple impacts to (C) train service while we work to correct a signal problem near Chambers St.

Some southbound (C) trains will run on the (F) line from W 4 St - Wash Sq to Jay St - MetroTech.

Some southbound (C) trains will run via the express track from 59 St - Columbus Circle to Canal St.

For missed stations, take a northbound local (C) or (E) train.

    Local To Express

Southbound (C) trains will run on the express track from Hoyt - Schermerhorn Sts to Euclid Av while we work to correct a switch problem near Hoyt - Schermerhorn Sts.

Transfer to a northbound (C) train for skipped stations.

It seems rather difficult to have (C) trains terminating at Chambers Street if (A) trains are running through as well. Also, having the (E) running via 6th Avenue under the signal and track work reroutes (pre-7th Avenue incident), where (A) and (C) trains utilize 6th Avenue as well will overwhelm the local track between Bryant Park and West 4th Street. Otherwise, nothing else looks physically impossible.

Would the (E) down Broadway to Whitehall St be better ?

Let me add a few things here and there.

It is a Saturday, 4:15 PM.

The 8th Avenue Line is shut down from south of 59th Street to West 4th Street in both directions for necessary track work. However, service is facing extensive delays in both directions because a person was hit by a train at 7th Avenue. In addition, there is signal work being done on the 60th Street tubes, so trains going from Broadway to Queens Boulevard are operating via 63rd Street instead for the weekend.

Reroute all trains which will be affected by this disruption, using the current weekend service pattern. Complete suspensions of any line are not acceptable, but partial suspensions if needed can be done. However, if any partial suspensions are done, have a plan for what will happen for affected trains that are currently operating within that suspended section.

It might help to first make necessary reroutes based on the signal work and track work that I mentioned, and then reroute trains based on incident at 7th Avenue.

Bare with me , I think I might’ve dragged it with this one but I really tried , here it goes

    Signal Work Reroutes

    (A) : 207 - Far Rock via Central Park West Exp , then via the (D) between 59th St and West 4th St , making stops at Spring St

    (C) : 168 - Euclid via Central Park West Lcl , then via the (D) between 59th St and West 4th St , making stops at 14th St and 23rd St

    (E) : WTC - JC via the (F) between West 4th and Roosevelt Avenue

    (R) : Forest Hills - Bay Ridge via (Q) to Lex - 63rd and then via the (F) to 36th St

    * (F) trains remain current route , Coney Island - Jamaica 179th St

** (D) trains remain current route , Coney Island - Norwood 205th St

    Incident at 7th Avenue :

    (A) : Service Suspension between 59th St - Columbus Circle and 42nd St-Bryant Park

Two Sections  207 - 59 via Central Park Local / Bryant Park - Far Rock via (D) between 42nd St and West 4th St

Affected Trains Will Hold In Stations In Area of Suspension

    (C) : Service Suspension between 168th St and Chambers St

    * All northbound (C) trains past Chambers St will short-turn at 5 Av - 42nd St along with the (A) & (D) .

Afterwards , there will be no northbound service past Chambers St.

** All southbound (C) trains that haven’t reached 59th St will be taken out of service at 81st St or 59th St - Columbus Circle

    (D) : Service Suspension between 59th St - Columbus Circle and 42nd St - Bryant Park

Two Sections : 205 - 59 via Central Park Local / Bryant Park - Coney Island
Affected Trains Will Hold In Stations In Area of Suspension

    * (E) trains will remain current route , WTC - JC via the (F) between West 4th and Roosevelt Avenue

** (F) trains will remain current route , Coney Island - Jamaica 179th St

Garbage train derail might be realistic, but amtrak and NJT, LIRR hitting Flushing Line struction is not realistic.

Also (B)(Q) is not Bay Ridge Branch which he made mistake. (R) and late night (N) doesn't get affected since it's not in Bowling Green.

I think he really need to go to NYCSUbway.org and track maps before he do scenarios.

    my point

How could a derailing train knock out power to half of Midtown?

    Something a bit more realistic:

    • A garbage train on the Bay Ridge Branch derails and spews toxic garbage onto the platform at Avenue H (Q). This causes the closure of the station and all tracks except the NB express track (you can use that track)
    • A slow moving NJT train in sunnyside Yard collides with an overspeeding Amtrak train, and they both knock into the support structures of the (7). As a precaution, The (7) line is closed Hunters Point Av to QB Plaza.
    • A severe windstorm on the East River causes whirlpools between 50 St and 57 St. Because of this, the 53 St Tunnels are closed.
    • A track fire inside the Bowling Green loop causes all trains in the area to not be able to pass. This affects the (1)(4)(5)(R).

    REROUTE AWAY!

It’s just for fun relax , but I did say a severe explosion , it may not lead to it but it can cause power to need to be shut off in that surrounding area but you’re one to talk about unrealistic situations

  13. Next :

At 2:55 AM , a  southbound (D) overshoots 53rd St-7th Av and derails horribly causing a severe explosion temporarily knocking out all power in Manhattan from 59th St to 42nd St

At 3:34 AM , a track fire at Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall (4)(6) causes the FDNY to shut down all power from Canal St to City Hall on the (N)(Q)(R)(W)(4)(5)(6)(J)(Z)

    Reroute Away !
