@EASI have bee searching for a backpack too. I've been using the duffle I had in school car and after a week I am over it. Ordered one off Amazon i hope it's big enough.  So much stuff lol.

This one works good for me and I had extra space in the main compartment for a hoodie last winter. Or food in the summer. But now I got a lunch bag lol. The main compartment is great. Spacious and has a laptop slot in the back where I keep my rule book and strip maps (I was in the first covid class that came out last September. I’m almost done with probation). The side pockets on this bag are great too. Personally I like it better than the Kaka.

What other bags you would recommend beside the kaka?

Personally I had the Kaka bag. It was ok. I didn’t get the biggest one, I got a smaller one. I still wasn’t fully happy with it. I ended up getting one from a company called Witzman. It’s on amazon for like $60. I’ll see if I can post a link

My question to either @EAS or @Hoakes is did you get paid while you were in school car ? Or did they make you wait like a month until your first check

Hey Kravtiz. You get paid during school car. Starting I believe is $23.09, or if you’re eligible for the small contractual increase that just went in, then it may be $23.67. You’ll have to pick up paper checks at a location you choose during school car until you set up your direct deposit.

Done with posting ! Took the final practical today and passed . Start my first job tomorrow !

Congrats to you and your classmates! I’m in B Div. Currently working PM tour. How many came out of your class? How many to B Div and how many to A Div?

Best of luck to the class starting next week! My class just finished schoolcar. It’s a great experience study study study when you get there and ask your TSS’s questions if you don’t understand something. It’s easy to get through you just have to put in the effort.

Congrats! So are you done with posting? Or is that going to start now?

Wow!!! Thank you so much for sharing this info. It helps immensely. I feel like I won't be "blind" now. I hope I can continue to reach out to you for questions and advice.

Have a good night.  I'll keep posting updates

"Never give up never surrender "

No worries. It would be blasphemous if I didn’t pay it forward. I had some good info and supporters when I was in the same position as you last August. Besides. It’s in my nature to be helpful. Ask away, whether myself or anyone else on here, we’re all in this together regardless of new or old. Cheers and good night!

  7. Keep that enthusiasm Bree! School car is approx 8-9 weeks. Your first week will be a bunch of orientations. After that, you’ll be in actual training for about 4 weeks or so. You’ll have a midterm and yard practical, then go posting. Posting means that you’ll be working as a conductor, but will have another conductor with you. You’ll have to post once on each line in the division you’re in. A division has less than B division. After posting, you’ll go back for your final and road practical.

they say the hardest part is the yard practical. I’d only agree because it’s your first time putting all you learned into practice, but in a train yard which is a safer environment. I’ll say the same as mostly everyone told me. Don’t sweat the small stuff. You’ll do fine. Just pay attention and take at least fairly decent notes.

@EAS so how does it feel to be out there on your own? Honestly

I’ll be as honest as I can. At first? It was nerve wracking. But, everyone is super dismissive about it like “it’s no big deal, you’ll get used to it”. My first 2 weeks out, I hardly slept I was over-thinking and excessively worried about things that could happen. It’s really not that serious. School car is intense. When you’re on the road, it’s way toned down. There’s days that can be really annoying, as you’ll see, but it’s honestly not bad at all. You’ll make it worse for yourself by over-worrying than it actually is (as I did to myself, but that’s my nature lol)

Awesome!! Well I'm a bit older lol. I've been an opera and Broadway singer for 20 years lol. I should have gotten off that ride a long time ago. But I am amped for this new chapter in my life! I will climb my 50+ good looking (though plump) booty up that train🤣🤣🤣 if they tell me how I will make it so( a la Captain Piccard)

I hope to meet you one day. I’m in B division. If you dunno what that is, it’s the letter likes. A division is the number lines. You’ll do just fine, I’m sure. Welcome to career changes! This was one for me as well.

Thank you.  I'm super excited. I've been testing and waiting for like 7 years. I just hope my old self can climb that train lol.

Thanks for all the input it is greatly appreciated 💜

@VKravitz I was and still am. My class came in in 09/2020. I’m still on probation. It’ll be fun.
@BreeBree I’m in my early 40s. If I can do it, you can too.

Guess that’s when my military training will kick in lol

It ain’t that serious. Follow their directions and you’ll be fine. Even short ppl can do it. U always need 3 points of contact.

one other thing. The TSS’s will seem very harsh and nasty. Don’t take it personal. You’re gonna give urself a headache that way. Trust me, it isn’t personal no matter how much it seems so. I learned the hard way.

  12. Congrats to all y’all! Once you go for medical and final processing, you’ll be sworn in the same day providing that all paperwork is in order and no medical holds. Be prepared to take a pic for your pass! Anyone going thru this now will be for the next class so if that starts 5/31 then that’s when it starts.

when school car starts, it’ll be tough and intense but you’ll learn quickly. Just pay attention and try to take good notes and study a lot.

    im proud of all y’all!

Hello all. Does anyone have info on how long it takes to be put back on the list for Conductor after emailing DCAS? I was put on a pre-employment medical hold. I was released Monday and I was told to email DCAS on Friday. A class started this past Monday. I'm hoping to get into the next class. Any info is much appreciated

Hey Bree. Good luck with everything! I’m not sure the exact time frame but I saw ppl that came in with my class (09/2020) that had medical holds. They went to their doctors and got it cleared up and were sworn in quickly. So the sooner you can get your paperwork in order (doctors clearance I presume) then you should be able to get into the next class.

2 things I wanna mention quickly:

    1. I heard they were bringing in enough ppl to run 4 classes back to back, one each month. So if you don’t make the class that just started (they won’t bring you in late, there’s a lot of info and one week is a lot of stuff to miss), then you’ll probably make the next class as long as you have your stuff in order. Get it done and email them ASAP. Also follow up with a call. That’s what I would do.

    2. I heard that the last class that came in got quarantined due to someone testing positive for Covid. I’m not sure if that’s the class you missed or not but if it is, consider yourself lucky.

Hey everyone, went in to get drug tested today. Expecting a call within 5-10 days. Anyone else going in this week?

Nice! You’ll be contacted and probably go for medical next week and be sworn in. Make sure you have all paperwork ready!!

I called my local SSI office and was told that I would  have to send my request for work history to the Baltimore office. May I ask which office you used to get the expedited service? Thanks In Advance.

My bad if I didn’t, I thought i replied to this already. I called the local office closest to my residence.
