  1. The ideas never stop, do they? What part of it's not happening do you not understand? Transit isn't going to rearrange the system because some event is happening way out at the Aqueduct. Besides, what's gained from the C to Broadway Junction (excuse me, Jamaica Center) that isn't already accomplished with the L transfer I suggested above? It's still a three-legged transfer from 8th Avenue to North Conduit Av either way. It's just changed from A -> L -> A to A -> C -> A. And you're right, your idea would cause confusion. Unnecessary confusion with very little gains. And by the way, for those keeping track, that's another sip.
  2. Looking ahead for the month of April in terms of weekend line suspensions: - suspended (4/12) [late nights only] - 149 St-Grand Concourse to Woodlawn (4/5) - suspended (4/19) - E 180 St to Eastchester-Dyre Av (4/12) - Queensboro Plaza to Times Sq-42 St (4/12) - Jay St-MetroTech to Utica Av (4/5, 4/18, 4/25) - W 4 St to Euclid Av (4/5, 4/18, 4/25) - Queensboro Plaza to Ditmars Blvd (4/5) [daytime only] - 59 St/4 Av to 36 St/4 Av (4/12-5/5) [late nights only]
  3. One small problem: work on the Jamaica elevated makes your proposal pretty much infeasible. Queens-bound J trains are running express between Marcy Av and Broadway-Eastern Pkwy all weekend (and continuing through most of the month). Sending the C to the Junction would only add to the delays on both the J and M lines. Besides, if 8th Avenue riders want to avoid the shuttle buses along Fulton Street, they can change over to the L trains at 14 St/8 Av or Broadway Junction.
  4. It may not have been posted in the archives, but it was posted on the website and through the email system. It went something along the lines of: Due to a train with mechanical problems at Court St, there are no R trains between Atlantic Av and Court St. At least I think that's what came up on my iTrans notification.
  5. I'm confused here. Are you calling for more B express service on the Brighton or do you want the return of the Q-Diamond? I can tell you right now, you're likely to only get one of those things accomplished and it won't be the latter. I don't see Transit making the 24/7 Q the part-time Brighton Express (weekends and late-nights would obviously be local) while the 19/5 B becomes the Brighton Local.
  6. The 5 is running local to maintain spacing on Lexington Avenue. With the 2 suspended in the Bronx, there will likely be added 5 trains running to compensate. Running all those trains express on the Lex will just over-serve the line. As for 62s (either ones) appearing on the 2, while possible, I don't think it will happen. Unlike the last time Lenox Avenue was shut down, White Plains Road (and therefore 239th Street Yard) still has access to a Manhattan trunk and can still send a 142 to the 2-line, albeit via the South Ferry loop. The last time this service disruption occurred, there wasn't any service between 3 Av-149 St and 96 St.
  7. More than it's worth. Bombardier is already in the process of building the number of A and B cars necessary to create the 260 four-car sets and 40 five-car sets. Changing that order, while possible, would require them to change the amount of A/B cars, thus delaying the order and costing the MTA more money in the process.
  8. No. It's mainly interlocking work at Roosevelt Av, 71 Av and Kew Gardens. There are some signal upgrades being done as well, but they have nothing to do with CBTC.
  9. But I demand accuracy in their service alert posts!!! Seriously though, as long as the service alerts clearly convey the current service without being word salad like they sometimes are, I really don't care if they have minor errors in them.
  10. First off, while the current 179 order may seem like a short-sighted move, it was a cost-effective one. If the order went as originally planned, with its couple of options included, there wouldn't be a problem. However, since money for this order took its sweet time materializing, hence the various delays on the order, the order had to be scaled back. If the 300 car order included 26 ten-car trains (40 cars would have to be part of four-car sets to retire the 42s out of East New York), there wouldn't be any cars available for fleet expansion for the Q when Second Avenue opens in 2018. Unless the 211 order is contracted, like, today or something, the cars would likely not be built in time for the extension. Secondly, Bombardier wanted no part in the 188 order because it was too small. Between the full trains and C-cars, there are only about 150 brand new cars being built, half of the 179 order, and the rest are 142A conversions.
  11. One small teensy-tiny little problem: most of the 179s will be 8-cars (480 ft) long. Unless they're all going on the M to bump off the 160s, they pretty much have to run on the C (that is, outside of the ones replacing the 42s on the J).
  12. Well it should be. It's supposed to wrap up by next month. I'm not holding my breath though.
  13. The extension of the old M to Chambers was supposed to cut a three-train ride from Myrtle to midtown to a two-seat one. The current extension to Essex St solves that just as efficiently.
  14. Work may be happening at Parkside through Cortelyou on the local track. Since there are no switches at Newkirk Plaza, trains must run express through Kings Hwy.
  15. They probably meant Court St. Hopefully.
  16. Kawasaki has to fix 7211 and company before they take on any more conversions, obviously.
  17. They wouldn't have to do anything with those indicator lights. They don't have to be in use.
  18. However, if the idea is to keep the 32s outside in the fresh air, it really wouldn't make sense to run them on the primarily underground M.
  19. (Jamaica Center to Marcy Av) Taking inspiration from the line maps, I decided to include the indicators for the J and Z.
  20. Map with new terminus at Essex St (Metropolitan Av to Myrtle Av) Check out the blue LED lights for the stops.
  21. I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt with the 160s. When the orders were placed in 2004/2005, full length LCD screens like the ones they'd need for those displays was quite expensive. Obviously, that's not the case nowadays, but they'll probably stick with it long after its obsolescence.
  22. Line suspensions scheduled for the rest of the month - 96 St to 242 St-Van Cortlandt Park (3/22) - 96 St to Wakefield-241 St (3/29) - Franklin Av to New Lots Av daytime only (3/15) - entire line (3/29) - 149 St-Grand Concourse to Woodlawn (3/15) - E 180 St to Eastchester-Dyre Av (3/22) - Queensboro Plaza to Times Sq-42 St (all) - Broad Channel to Far Rockaway (3/22) - Hewes St to Delancey-Essex Sts daytime only (3/15) - Prospect Park to Kings Hwy (3/15)
  23. If you mean the one I posted above, then sure, I don't care. With all of this talk of bringing the B back on the West End, I decided to go retro with my next line map. Broadway B (1986-'88) from Ditmars Blvd to Coney Island via Broadway Express, West End Express Real retro.
  24. Nassau St-4th Avenue service has been pitched in various ways. Whether it's though sending the J to 95 St or 9 Av or bringing back the Nassau M, the answer has pretty much been the same. The ridership for such a service just isn't there. Most riders on the 4th Avenue local want Broadway service.
  25. People who follow me on BVEStation may know that I sometimes create strip maps for the routes available for BVE/openBVE. What you may not know is that I've been doing this off and on for about five years now. Come to think of it, it's probably one of my first Illustrator projects I did. My inspiration came from lilbluefoxie's strip maps way back in 2009. My first attempts at replicating this for other lines, both real and fictional, were hit and miss to be generous, especially since it was my first foray with vector graphics programs. I'd show you, but since I no longer have access to the POS desktop I created them on. My second attempt which, while better than the first, looking back on it today, looks a bit cartoonish. Take a look. Note the small fonts for everything, the fugly-looking bullets. After a while, I decided to make them look a bit more realistic. While the station/borough divider fonts are still small, the bullets look much better, don't they? I updated them again to fix that and other issues. Ignore the fictional transfers. The fonts are now legible from a distance (as they'd have to be if this were a real strip map found on a train). It even includes the "map not in use" cut out that you'd find on the trains. I mention all of this because, once again, I've completely started from scratch. Call me a perfectionist, but like all of my work I do for here and BVEStation, I have to like it and if I don't, I will fix it. Eventually. (My perfectionist streak is always trumped by a lack of time. ) Taking inspiration from this SubChat post, I've decided to go for an even more realistic approach for this new update. While not an exact replica of the ones found on the 142s (besides the addition of the 2's local stops, my personal preference has the font mostly in Akzidenz Grotesk instead of Helvetica, among other minor details), the row of 64 total available stops, the location of the stops' "indicator lights" and everything else are all based on what one would find on an actual strip map on one of the trains and where they'd be in relation to everything else. Please don't ask for specialized ones. I'm not taking requests for these right now. I may change my mind later on, but right now, I don't have the time for requests. However, I will be creating maps for other lines as I see fit, so stay tuned for more. By the way, to those who have pending requests for signs and other miscellanea in the other thread here, I haven't forgotten about it. I've just been extremely busy with other things. That is all.
