  1. Dvr can be good and bad. Fios, they don't automatically record the whole show like what twc does (i think). Sometimes you can get lucky as if you missed the first few minutes of a show, those minutes would be recorded. There are also times when you schedule a time, the show gets cut off by some minutes at the start and/or end. If you record back to back shows, theres a few second gap, so that also pisses me off. I dont have the time to manually set the time and thats the point of the select and 'record' so i can do it quickly.
  2. just because the r179 and r160s are ntt, it doesn't mean they share the same parts. So yes, CIY could handle an additional fleet type, but it would be better to just give the 5 car sets to the A and displace some r46s to the F and the F displace some R160s to CIY so Ci has only r68/as and r160s to deal with. Again, nothing is set in stone and is still up for speculation, but honestly, i think the mta would rather just move some trains around so the fleet is more uniformed than have an oddball fleet for one place. Keeping extra parts on hand for a handful of trains is just as complicated, if not more of a hassle.
  3. If it was about safety, it should've been shut down much earlier then. Its not the only tower ride of its kind and is useless if people cant ride it to the top. The wonder wheel is now the main way of seeing the area from the top (without a helicopter or that windmill ride next door at screamzone).
  4. You really think the sas will be opened on time? Also not a big deal if those trains were moved, train move happens like the r32 and r160 swap.
  5. The 5 car set isn't set in stone though. It could be for the Q, but then with how theres always some delay on the sas, i think maybe it can take place of some r46s on either the A or the R (directly or indirectly).
  6. The R179s, I think they will go to the C (with the few to ENY to replace the R42s here). Why have Pitkin/207 deal with both the R179 and R160? Keep it simple with just the R179 and keep ENY with all the 8 car R160s. I have said that I think that Willy B pair would be a great addition, but they were left out in the yard when Sandy hit and were flooded. I don't think they are salvageable even with the historical aspect. I would say they should keep 5 R32s there permanently and send the R42s back to be scrapped or to run on the A/C. I dunno how much longer the R42s are gonna last and may as well save the hassle of moving some R32s back to replace a retired set of R42s.
  7. @O7: Same here, so much simpler with fios now. I still have a gripe about the email constantly asking for my passcode every time I come back like 1-2 hrs later. At least the screamzone section is gonna be open. I don't get why they need to close down the wonder wheel though (unless things changed from yesterday's reports). As I said on subchat, the tower should've either been kept running or they took the whole thing down. Such a pointless waste of space having it stand to do nothing. It's not like it was the only ride of its kind. Sea World Orlando and such parks have one.
  8. Well, you could've said that before, most of us thought all you dreamed about was buses.
  9. If that happened to me and I had a soda bottle on hand, I'd throw it. "F you to the pos for trying to run me over."
  10. On the flip side a few times people rang the bell and no one gets off the stop. That pisses me off because it's a wasted stop and then someone runs for the bus at the last second and further holds up the bus.
  11. lol, getting upset over buses he doesn't own. :insert 'you mad' image:
  12. Agreed the R40M (99+1 R42) and R38 (~200) were retired because there were so few of them. And with the almost 50 R42s left, this wouldn't be an issue anyway. If the R38s were still around there'd be no issues about the C having to move up to the 10 car marker when R42s were used on it. But it's all moot as eventually the R42s will join the rest as scrapped.
  13. iirc only the roofs of the r38s were bad. I don't remember there being much of an issue with the rest of the car. If anything the slants probably should've been scrapped first and then the R42s.
  14. I don't. He sure as hell cleaned up the Schumacher crap batman films and Bryan Singer's superman film that was a sickening love letter to the Richard Donner films. It may be heavy on the brooding like Watchmen, but eh I'll take it as this'll probably as close to right as hollywood will get in terms of the characters. Dark Knight rises cleared away the vomit that was Batman and Robin's Bane ('braindead' steroid using muscle) and the Hale Berry Catwoman (s&m costume fighting some cosmetic ceo, wtf?) films.
  15. Ever since they shifted the nb local service to the sb 'exress' track (Bowery and Canal), they should've just turned back trains north of Chambers from the sb express track.
  16. There are 6 car sets that are the 5 R142As with an inserted car.
  17. 40yrs as a give or take, could be more, could be less. My question is given the nearly 12 yr gap between the R142A and R188, will they retire at the same time or separately?
  18. all I will say is he should've stayed in the damn car. I will also say that this trial wouldn't even get attention if both people were of the same race. That's what made it worse, activists like Sharpton adding unnecessary fuel to the fire. That said, again I think the thing that can be said almost totally sure: Zimmerman should not have gotten out to follow the kid. As for the possible criminal history of the kid, well people should stop trying to make him like some sort of saint if he isn't. = Finally saw Man of Steel and I loved it. Nolan once again works his magic in rebooting a stale franchise. This one was more like a mix of the 1st 2 movies minus Lex Luthor. Zod was a true threat and the effects of this movie along with the new music score was great. I honestly didn't miss the old superman theme song. I won't spoil the end, but I will say this superman can be as brutal as the Dark knight films.
  19. Yup, I kept saying that. If people can put up with it for that time, they will get new trains. The R188s are a mix of new and 2nd hand refurbished trains. I dunno if this means the converted R142As are going to stay over 40 years (that's the general retirement age for most trains) or if the R188s especially the inserted cars will be retired at the same time (meaning they retire 12-13 years shorter at around 27yrs when the original R142As are about 40yrs).
  20. Np, I ride the Q35 semi often enough to be familiar with that part of Queens to know that there really is no need for any new subway segment past it's current terminal at B116th. Honestly, the bus is good enough. If they need more service, they'd just need to up the headways from the 15min one to like 10 min (even that is unnecessary) during the middays with the Q35.
  21. I'm too tired to quote a bunch of posts, so i'll say this in general: map design looks nice if a person wants feedback, then they are expected to get a backlash on unpopular changes if a person is going to make a dis, however harmless as it seems and the pages of details, then to me it seems like arrogance to think he is above criticism. So sorry to the 'apologists', but I won't give a person a 'benefit of the doubt' pass there. As for a comment about why no extension of the subway past Rockaway Park, the rest of the peninsula is basically homes. I highly doubt anyone would be in favor of a subway el built over their roads. This isn't like an el structure sitting unused and being put back to service again. Plus other than the summer, the bus is more than enough. There is no need for any additional stations in that area. If there's a need for new lines, focus on the major areas like Utica av or FB av which would do more to help take the burden off the buses than the Q22/35.
  22. 1st 2 you could have early in the year, if you rode the Q35 as often as I do (you could still find an ex Bee at least from what I remember early last month). Even last month a D60hf ran on it, but you can always head over to Manhattan on the M101 etc and catch them. I haven't been on an XD60 yet either, but I might make a trip to the Bronx if I have the time, eventually.
  23. Oic, some of the 2+ hr classes I had were 'required' like some art history, science, etc classes and those were the only choices left since I couldn't get the times I wanted and I didn't want to be stuck with weekend classes or late night ones. Damn, yeah I would never survive if the escalators there went down. Too much walking all at once. Not that I'm out of shape, but not something I'd want to do on a daily basis. Once in a while, I'll do it, but that's pretty much as far as I'd go on the steep climbs. I'm just glad the road there isn't as steep as some of the ones in SF, now those I wished the sidewalks had steps.
