Mid-Island transit ran a route from Hicksville to Oyster Bay many years ago & MSBA tried a route from Hicksville to Syosset, but was discontinued. The N67 was a former Hendrickson Bus Co. route taken over by MSBA ,along with the other private Nassau operators in 1973. It was discontinued in 1976 due to low ridership. It was even a "short fare" route.
For some reason, when the Metrocard was introduced to LIB, only certain 3rd-leg transfers from the subway to Nassau were allowed. For example: N4 to the N15 &32, N20,21 to the N57,58,25 & 23,N22,22A to the 25,N6 to the N1,2,3,etc. There might be others that I can't recall.
They're not buying parts. Just cannibalizing the o/s buses sitting in the backyard. Was told by a dispatcher that they don't even have headlights in stock.
The one benefit of the 45 & 51 being rerouted to the parking field #3 stop is it should lessen the crowds that board at the student union stop, since they now have to walk over to there for the 45 & 51.
There was one curvy unimproved road through Mitchell Field connecting Hemp. Tpk. through NCC to Stewart Ave. Mid-Island Transit(formerly Star Bus) was the only one that ran through there. As far as I know, the N51 took Stewart Ave to Merrick Ave bet. Roos. Fld & Merrick.
The Clever Device works by satellite. Not by wheel rotation or any of the other assumptions that have been posted. The buses are currently being dry-run on all the routes for the new system that's being installed.
