Yes, they should retire the worst performing r46's first, but they should be temporarily stored as emergency fleet until most of the base order of the r211's is in service and performing well.
The MTA sort of already does this.
With the Redbirds and R32-R42 cars replaced by the R160s. After a train set is removed from passenger service the cars are put in storage at Concourse yard and after a while they are scrapped, and more retired cars replace the scrap cars at Concourse.
They simply don't have the yard space to keep most of the R46s in storage AND have the entire base order of R211s on the property at the same time.

Masks are now optional on MTA services! Personally I been stopped wearing a mask on public transit regularly as wearing a mask in hot, humid weather is a miserable experience. Mask sticks to your face and besides, most riders stopped wearing them anyway.

Y'all rocking with this new Bx41 Local schedule??
Looks like they only put the schedules for the hawk runs.
MTA could get away with this too, as I'm sure riders who ride BX41 during the day and early evenings don't look at the online schedule. If I was a betting man 99% of BX41 riders just show up at the bus stop and wait for the bus to come.
Reminds me of someone who complained about an error on the online timetables of the Frankin Ave Shuttle If this was an express bus timetable or an local route with long headways all day (like the Q67 for example) then this would be an issue.
I wouldn't be surprised if the TA only put the hawk schedule on purpose on some a$$ hole tip, with their line of thinking being no one checks for the online timetables for the daytime/early evening BX41 anyway lol. Basically they was aware of the error and didn't care to correct it.

Some 400s and 500s did end their lives at MTA Bus during 08-09.
What depot? I know SC had some buses from that diesel batch but they never ran in service AFAIK. I remember that cause I was eager to see diesel Orions in service in BK but SC never ran them.

The MTA only getting 12-13 years out of those NGs (depending on build date in 2009) really is an indictment on those buses and those batteries. I can't think of a 40-foot order that aged that badly for the TA in ages.
Those Orion Vs from the mid 90s were pretty trash. The 93 Orions were good but Orion V #400 - 580 were awful, none of them even hit service in MTA Bus. Even the ones CS had were trash so you couldn't blame KB maintenance for those buses being bad lol.
581-610 sucked too, very slow buses but some units made it to CP for a brief stint.
IMO the 3G Orion is the best batch of Orions the TA ever got. Those buses are in excellent shape for their age. The OG/NG aren't far behind with the Orion V coming in last. The 6000 99 Orions are my favorite as a buff but as an commuter the low floor Orions are better.

Then is there a planned replacement for the older R62/As?
Yes the R262 is the replacement for the R62/62A fleet.

There's an R62 on the southern half of the today if anybody's interested. What a pleasant surprise as I walked down the steps at Flatbush and seen that 62 sitting in the station 1595 has dead motors though.

Tf? Why does stengel need those units. I’m having a hard time believing this transfer. CS has current conehead delivery. They don’t need these units
Probably two NGs at CS are scrap and the transit community isn't aware of what units they are yet. So Grand sent CS those two NGs to replace two retired NGs in the meantime. Also LFS diesel order is coming in pretty slow.

The garbage train which uses SMEE cars run on QB, even after the CBTC conversion... So I'm sure the system can handle an occasional non CBTC train traveling on the line.

Does anyone know when this might enter revenue testing?
An exact date hasn't been giving, an time period was given which would be sometime in the fall, around November IIRC. The source was an MTA document posted on here a while back.

Was this system installed during GOH?
Yes. R46 had rollsigns on the side prior to GOH.

On Richmond Avenue (deadheading from the Yukon Depot) or on Victory Blvd?
On Victory Blvd. I was stuck in traffic on Richmond Ave on an Ferry bound S44. I thought about transferring to the S62 and saw the buses bunched up on the app. The traffic was on Victory Blvd too, once my S44 passed Victory Blvd it was smooth sailing on Richmond Ave.
Still ended up transferring to the S48 since I never rode it during the daytime and I have been wanting to fan that route.

There are currently three S62s bunched up ferry bound. Traffic is horrible on Richmond Ave today

Are the front rollsigns on the R46 still manually changed? And does anyone know how the electronic destination signs are set/changed on the R46?
The front rollsigns are changed manually.
There's an electronic keypad inside the cabs for the electronic signs. You put in the code and designation shows up.

I know that most of the trains over at the Rockaways with the Shuttle that runs between Broad Channel and Rock Park are at 15-20 min headways bc of low ridership. Was it also measured because of the drawbridge that usually opens for boats to go through the Jamaica Bay?
I don't think the drawbridge has anything to do with capacity. The Northeast Corridor has a draw bridge (portal bridge) and it runs a LOT of trains from NJT and Amtrak.
If the drawbridge was hindering capacity NYCT would probably push for an replacement bridge with higher elevation that didn't need to be opened to let boats pass though.

Just seen on the local news that an wheelchair rider got robbed ON an Staten Island local bus (S40) . The bum took 250 dollars from the man's shirt pocket, IDK why he was carrying 250 dollars in his shirt pocket. That's what wallets are for if you must carry physical cash for whatever reason.

Earlier today, XD60 6005 had to removed from service in Flushing due to brake problems. Dispatcher told everyone to get on the following bus which was 6004.

Why is the 11:25AM out of Jamaica to Montauk on a regular Monday morning so busy? I could understand a friday train to Montauk being busy (city folks heading to their vacation homes in the Hamptons) but a Monday morning Montauk train going E/B? I never been on this run but according to the app this is an busy run.

The slow speed is most likely due to flagging on the tracks.
Most subway lines run on 20 minute headways overnight, so waiting that long for an train at that time is normal.

IDK about reliability but CBTC trains (in general) do in fact run faster than trains that use the regular wayside signals. Its noticeable on the line which uses both. Those Jamaica bound which over to CBTC at 7th Ave 53rd and its like the train gets a burst of speed

1224 from GH Depot was seen at EC Scrap but the bus was there due to high mileage.
Also the 12xx that hasn't been running for awhile is 1205,1248,1272 & 1277.
1205 hasn't ran in awhile.
1224 hasn't ran since March.
1248 hasn't ran since May.
1272 hasn't ran since June of this year.
1277 hasn't ran since July.
Maybe 1248, 1272 & 1277 are in storage? But then again giving how demanding the BX artic routes are in terms of buses needed, I don' t think they can afford to put buses to storage for the summer. Things could be interesting if those three buses don't reappear after Labor Day weekend.
Only other thing I could think of is they need parts or are getting heavy duty work at an CMF. Can't see them starting to retire the 1200s with no new artic order for the foreseeable future. Also I thought the Nova artic is a durable bus, I would be surprised to see the TA starting to write them off at only the 12 year mark.

Surprising i thought they were gonna hold off and rehab the nabis?
They are gonna rehab only the newest NABIs from 2012-2013... NJT has like a thousand NABIs, 500 new buses will only replace half of them.

It's highly unlikely they will expand any of the yards. Only B div yard with space to expand is Jamaica and it wasn't done for reasons I can't remember. The other yards are in densely populated areas. It would be a hard sell to acquire land to store decommissioned subway cars. Most NYC residents would be like, why take away property to add yard space to store subway cars that aren't needed anymore, scrap them!
