    Wow.

Also who would steal a resistor or third rail shoe.

Railfans who want one as a souvenir  Theres railfans out there who be stealing the tools from train crews bags when they leave the cab to investigate BIE's and those items are even less interesting than the underbody car parts of this SMEE IMO

  2. The fact that bad behaving railfans haven't cannibalized this car is an amazing feat in itself. The Rollsigns, the number plates, the resistors, the 3rd rail shoes, etc are all there!

Museum cars ON TA property in TA yards have had parts like rollsigns and number plates stolen from them.

I was driving on the cross Bronx earlier and saw an MTA Orion V at Cummins Metro Power…I thought the Orions MTA got were Detroit engines?

All the Orion Vs that had Cummins engines are long gone. There's only like three MTA Orion Vs still in existence and they are all DD50 powered.

The only Cummins Orion V the MTA had were CNG, no cummins diesels.

  4. Funny how this convo came up these past couple of posts. I JUST got off an R179 where boy who looked be in his early teens kept going in and out the cab in the last car playing with the horn.

Transfered to Broadway line the R46 rollsign is signed up as the (G) in the first car (it's an (N) train)

And this will be yet another expense the (MTA) has to pay for with money they never seem to have. Couldn't have come at a worse time.

Trains get tagged all the time, I would imagine cleaning graffiti off of this train would be an drop in the bucket expense wise..

What do you mean this couldn't happen at an worst time? An TA employee will wash off the graffiti and the train would be available for testing again. It's not really an big deal.

  6. Nobody cares about conquesters outside of the transit community.

Darius is the wildest foamer of all time as he actually operated trains and buses and pretended to be various transit jobs over the years. He actually had a documentary made about him lol. Nothing the conquesters comes close to that so their activity was always whatever to me.  A lot of what those conquesters did was also done by kids that aren't railfans and has been happening for years. In 2007 I rode an R40 Slant (B) where you someone broke into the cab and yelled "STFU" over the PA system and stuff like that has been happening years before that. IDK why railfans act like bad behaving teens in the subway is some new thing.

I do not by any means agree with what those conquesters do but I never got all "clutches pearls" over their activity.

BTW if you type in "conquesters nyc subway" on youtube videos do come up, mainly from news channel pages from seven years ago.

What's the deal with all the standards on the Q53 today? Like half the route was all XD40s. What makes this even worse because the Manhattan-bound (R) is running express this weekend in Queens, so everyone is piling on the Q53. This couldn't have happened at a worst moment.

I always assume when LGA does this they have a bunch of XD60s due for inspection and maybe they try to inspect them all on a Sunday when they think ridership might be at its lowest. On weekdays during rush hour nearly all the XD60s are in use according to a LGA B/O that use to post here.

As for doing it during the (R) train G.O, outside of shuttle bus G.Os I doubt subway and bus management be on the same page with that type of stuff.

  8. Was nice to ride an R46 via the 6th Ave express. Unfortunately the train stalled out at 42nd - Bryant Park and they are investigating what's wrong with the train right now.

....train just got removed from service. I hope they announce what's wrong with the train, as someone intrested in mechanical inner workings of trains this stuff intrigues me lol.

Train took power, moved a couple feet then stopped.

  9. I figured those 80xx sent to GH was loaners, was about to say, wouldn't it make more sense for KB to get those LFS since KB still has NGs while Gun Hill does not.

I wonder what the TA plan is to rid Quill/KB/MCH of those oddball NGs they got. Cannot make much sense to stock parts at those depots for those small batch of buses.

So the (5) is suppose to end at 149th St this weekend...but there's a slight problem, the middle track at 149th St is out of service...so how is that gonna work?

Relay north of 161st on the Jerome EL? (Like how the Low V Yankee special does?)

Yes, The R142/As are only around 20 years old, halfway through the 40 year lifespan of a subway car. This would be a good time for them to get a "mid life refurbishment". If there is any rolling stock the MTA should be planning to replace, it's the R68/A.

They don't do mid life overhauls anymore, SMS every six years replaced that.

time I’m thinking to myself “come on MTA how do you let this happen at a time when you need to leave a good impression for the public because ridership is still down but service is still unreliable on many routes”.

Yesterday all three buses on that run on the B42 was bunched up minutes apart, its a short route with no traffic issues on the weekends AND there's a dispatcher stationed at Rockaway Parkway. Its common for two out of the three B42 buses on Saturday evenings to run in pairs for whatever reason when its supposed to be 10 minute headways on Saturdays. I hear of other B42 riders complaining so its not only me. One theory from this woman whom I'm pretty sure is not in the online transit community said this "Local bus riders don't complain, they just accept it. They should complain about the service" I agree with her. I'm sure there are B42 riders who complain but it falls on death ears.

Dealing with shitty bus service has made me more pro car than I already was. The sheer thought of those annoying overly pro bus fanners who think who think traveling by bus is the best thing since sliced bread irritate me so much. Don't get me wrong the subway has its problems too ( (F) and (R) on weekends for example) but it seems like service is much worse overall with the buses. I live on the (L) which has four minute headways 7 days a week, so I don't really have nothing to complain about on the rail side of things. But I do feel for QBL and 4th Ave local riders who have it rough on weekends.

I don't even think the the bus system has an (L) train equivalent when it comes to quality service. Maybe the B6 or weekend M104?

So I got on a local bus today and noticed the bus op playing music. I only ever seen that on express buses before, and those bus ops turn it off as soon as the first passengers gets on. But normally I don't mind I as I understand that driving all day can be boring and having music can help people get through the day easier. At the next red light after I boarded, the bus stop started changing music on his phone and again I wouldn't mind that much since the bus wasn't moving, but once the light turned green the op started to move the bus still with the phone in hand. I was on the bus only for a couple blocks but the entire time they we're on their phone. I ended up taking a quick pick and reporting it, but I feel bad about doing that since the bus op seemed like a nice person. But being on your phone while driving a bus is just reckless and unacceptable. Idk how strict the MTA would be about it, but I don't like the idea of being that person responsible for them possibly loosing their job.

I've come across this a few times. One time a B/O was listening to the Yankees game as he was driving (recognized John Sterling's voice) one time a B/O was bumping Crazy in Love by Beyonce while driving.

On NICE Bus this B/O kept getting out of the driver's seat to text every few stops lol. I guess its easy to run hot on those Hempstead - Far Rock routes and that was his way of killing time.

Rode R142A 7721 during work-to-home commute, and it was the usual bucking and screeching. But today it was on another level: the scrape-n-grind sounds (usually caused by worn-out brake pads) were so loud that they drained out the station annoucements as the train was pulling in the station. Last week I rode on 7630, and it was a similar issue with excessive screeching, though not the same as this one.

Those cars are in horrible condition, and nothing seems to be getting done about it. How bad do these cars have to get before real change is made? I heard about the broken car wash, but come on already.

Noisey brakes is common on all the current day IRT car classes except for the Bombardier built R142s. The other day I noticed clean trucks on an R188 set conversion set so maybe the R142As are due for an SMS soon which will help a bit.

Are there still controls in the unused half cabs in the R62/a and R68/a? and why are there still roll signs on the half cab ends/cars?

The R68s on the (D) still have the master controllers in the corner cabs.... funny you bring this up as I was waiting for the (C) train at 59th Street today and noticed that lol.

Only the Kawasaki built R62s still have rollsigns on the half cabs, they have been removed on the R62As in linked five car sets and on the R68/68A fleets.

For the rest of the ride through the tunnel , the lights kept flickering on and off for seconds at a time

Maybe someone was trespassing in the cab playing with the controls? Might be possible the crew wasn't aware the lights were off/being tampered with.

In like 2006 I rode an R68 (B) train that had its lights off underground. Double whammy as it was a rare ride on an R68 (B) (was rare for that time period as R40s dominated the line at the time) and the lights was off!
