  2. Like Suffolk Transportation's Bay Shore yard, the Coram yard is shared with school buses. (Four school contracts are most likely run out of the Coarm yard.) so the S58 doesn't have the entire yard to itself. However since this is a recent move, there isn't that much information on the routes or buses housed there, I only put the S58 because that was said to be there earlier.
  3. I assume they would be used for driver relief like they were said to be used for.
  4. Thinking it over, if 9908 is the spare and is counted as one of the 10 buses, then the routes are probably split between Ronkonkoma and Coram (except the S76 as that only needs one bus) since if they had all the runs of the routes you listed they would need more then 10 buses in the Coram yard. My guess would be. Spare - 1 S76 - 1 S58 - 2 S62 - 2 5A - 2 S60 - 1 (Most likely the run that turns into the S69) S71 -1 Of course if the S110 is being run out of Coram then obviously I'm wrong.
  5. I haven't heard anything about what routes were placed in the Coram yard so I don't know if what you heard is right or wrong. Though I could see those routes you mentioned being put in the Coram yard. I think it may have been done more for space. I think Suffolk Transportation Service may have also gotten A/E's Hauppauge contract, which would mean it would be run out of the Ronkonkoma Depot #2 with the CI contract since that is their closest yard to Hauppauge. Yard #2 isn't that big (especially since it houses big and mini buses.) so I would guess they would have had to put buses in the other yard which would have caused them to need to move some transit buses. out. A Space issue also makes sense since they also said they were moving some para transit buses to the Coram Yard as well.

  7. Interesting when I was in school (in two different School Districts) the Bus companies had to follow the routes how the school districts wrote them. The route order was usually the same in the afternoon as the morning, there were only a few that weren't the same in the afternoon as the morning. The bus route I took the last year I was in elementary school was run in reverse order, the bus route on the next block was run in reverse order as well, but that was because that route was on the same block as the school.
  8. I'm not aware of the 5:30 S66 running express after the Pathmark Shopping Center before, and all the times I've seen that run it's always seems to have the assigned bus that that run would have done earlier in the day. It could be a new thing though. The Company that operates the S66 had to have a special pick because of changes, since the S66 is so far the only route they have that had changes (Other then service on the S47 and them moving some routes to another yard.) it is conceivable that it is a new thing. Also since they added the last run from Riverhead being 6:50, and the 5:30 driver use to go back to the yard at that time, they could have done it so that a new driver could do the 6:50 run run and the 5:30 driver could head back to the yard as they always had.
  9. The first three weekday trips out of Babylon for the S27 have been changed to leave about 5 minutes earlier then before. They also eliminated the alternate routing that went to Montauk Hwy and Higbie Lane. Tanger Outlets has also been added to the schedule. All buses leaving Bablyon seem to have kept the same time after the 7:00 bus., all the stops especially after Tanger seem to have changed by about 10 minutes.
  10. They were going to expand service to the routes the 2008/2009 study had suggested. Since the S66 was on that list, I'm thinking that the rest will follow. Since Sunday Service isn't suppose to go into effect until January, or at least that was the last I heard, I would assume that maybe the rest of any Service expansions will be rolled out between now and then. I think this is also the only Service expansion that SCT didn't update on their website, though they put notices up on the buses, or at least a friend saw a notice about the S66 on 1058 while it was on the 7D/E.
  11. The old United Bus Corp yard that Suffolk Transportation Service took over a few years ago. They expanded it to make it like some type of hub short of like their Ronkonkoma and Bay Shore yards. Also Suffolk Transportation picked up a few contracts in the area with Atlantic Express pulling out of that area which probably helped necessitate the expansion. The expansion of the Coram yard was mentioned on News 12 a few weeks ago.

  15. Now that was a waste of money. The only thing done was ordering the 81 buses. (Which needed to be done anyway, the only difference was that originally the order for new buses was to be for 50 something buses.) I'm not sure if the study suggested a fare increase, if so then that was done. The only thing different was that the Study said the 81 buses would come from Gillig when the buses actually came from Orion.
  16. Thanks, I know the history because I've ridden the system since I was born, before that even if you want to get specific, though I haven't had a need to as of late. Also my Grandfather use to drive for one of the companies that contracted with the county though after 1968 he mostly drove for the companies school bus operation.
  17. I think that Gillig slipped my mind. I believe it was one of the Gilligs that was formerly assigned to Inter-County Motor Coach, now EBT, but I can't off hand remember the bus number. Or at least I am aware that at least that they had a Gillig with a back ad wrap. I didn't of course see it in person, but I swear I saw a picture of it.
  18. 1056 has had that ad for about a year now, it's the only bus I know of in the SCT fleet with a back ad wrap. Suffolk has wrapped some buses with a back wrap in the past, I know 9908 had one many years ago.
  19. Yeah those transfer machines have always had trouble since basically the day Suffolk first got them. The last time I heard about a problem with a farebox was a week or so ago, and what ever the problem was with the farebox also effected the transfer machine, which is I believe the first time I heard of that happening. Normally its either a stand alone problem with the fare box or transfer machine. Though whatever the problem was had been a quick fix since the bus was used the next day.
  20. As far as I know SCT has always had GFI fare boxes. I haven't heard of any changes to the farebox, and I haven't had the need to take a bus for a very long time so I wouldn't know. I'll ask a friend to see if SCT changed fareboxes. I'd be surprised though if they did since the companies had trouble getting the GFI's from the retired buses into the Orion VII's. The GFI's kept blowing the fuses or causing some type of problem when they were getting installed. I doubt it, all the MTA, and NICE use the Metrocard and Suffolk didn't jump on that. Suffolk doesn't do anything unless it has the money to, and money s something especially for Transit that Suffolk never seems to have enough of. It is why SCT's system has been the same for decades
  21. As far as I know SCT has been using the same model farebox for decades. The ones on the Orion VII's had come off the retired 1996 Gillig Phantoms, 1997 Gillig Phantoms, and those 1999 Orion V's that have been retired. (Which I believe in turn came off buses that were retired in and around the years of 1996,1997, and 1999) You may predict it, but I don't see it happening, a addition, if it could be added to the current farebox system, or a change for that would cost money and the county doesn't have that type of money. Heck the county has a deficit, that is why the County Executive is using the rest of the state aid and I believe federal money that isn't going to be used to add Sunday service and expand hours on some routes to paying for the county's contribution for the system.
  22. The accident happened early in the morning and was mentioned on the news, so my guess is that people probably heard about it and used an alternate route which was why traffic was light. Though I wouldn't say that part of 25A is that busy anyway. Yeah I have no idea how those Clever Devices work, once a few years ago I remember a few years ago I saw a driver pressing a keypad before the Clever Device went off. I meant to say where did the bus turn to start the detour? Hmmm, either the the 5A came in early and the driver punched in the wrong code, or some other driver was running early and was either playing with their sign or punched in the wrong code since the S58 doesn't service Port Jefferson. It's likley that another bus was running early, since If I remember Correctly the S60 to Smith Haven Mall is the only bus in the Port Jefferson area at that time, or at least thats how it was when I was younger.
  23. If the bus had two windows before the rear door then it was a 35ft bus which 1060 is, if it had one window then it was a 30ft bus. If your talking about the bus stop right next to the LIRR then something must have happened to the sign because there was always a sign there before. The map on the S60 Bus schedule is years old, the current way the S60 gets to Port Jefferson Plaza 'S60 came north, made left on Wilson St, only to come back out of Port Jeff Plaza.' was implemented in the late 90's. The S60 to Smith Haven Mall and the S62 Riverhead use to cut behind the Port Jefferson Shopping Center but either Ride Aid or the old Thrift Store complained because the buses were interfering with them getting deliveries. Ah so you rode the S60 during the detour, how did the Detour go? Are you sure the sign said S58 and not 5A, because the 5A runs between Port Jefferson and Middle Island. Unless the driver punched in the wrong sign code. Some times the farebox generates a transfer on its own, I remember it happened on a bus I was riding on a few years ago. The transferboxes sometimes have trouble though.
