  1. Probably so if the bus was pack or someone accidently leans on the door it won't open and send the person tubling off the bus while it was in motion.
  2. Are you talking about how it's like to get from the n72 to the S42 IE NICE to SCT vs how you get from one SCT bus to another SCT (Ie 7B to S71)? because I'm a bit confused as to how you went from talking about the S42 to the 7B. I don't know, probably because it would costly to change, the system is/was mostly used by the poor who may not beable to pay for a metro card. Or simple the County runs the system and just doesn't care about the MTA. You pay in Cash. With bills and coins.
  3. Probl;em would be with traffic. You can't have a driver waiting for passengers because it could cause them to end up getting into traffic and end up running late. Which would upset passengers who have to transfer to other routes to get someplace at a certain time. However I have no problem with the driver waiting a few seconds for someone if they see them walking or running towards the bus. I'm not sure if all the companies do it, but out in Suffolk I know with in the companies if the driver radio each other and tell them they have a passenger that wants to transfer, the drivers will wait for the connection if they can. I remember one time I was riding a SCT bus and it was the first run out and the driver was told by the dispatcher that there was a rider that wanted to transfer on from another route, that was operated by a diffrent operator, and the dispatcher told the driver to wait 5 minutes, or as long as the driver could witthout causing them to be late. The driver who was a nearly 20 year veteran, waited the full five minutes for the other bus to show up, the bus didn't arrive in that time so the driver left. Could depend on how the drivers day has been going, or just their attudite. Most every SCT driver I've ever had as a driver would always thank you or wish you a good day if you said it to them, a few even said it first. Some even took the time, if you rode with them enough to learn your name or recongize you. There was only one driver who seemed like an uncaring jerk. Going so far as to one night say that he wouldn't give a ride across a busy highway an in the direction of the bus yard to a mother and her three kids who were already on the bus after his shift ended, which yes was the rules, to only be seen a few minutes later carrying two men in the same direction.
  4. You are aware that there is a sign that says don't talk to the drivers while the bus is in motion. So technically if the bus was in motion and the driver wasn't responding then he was following the rules.
  5. Bus lanes could help, probably never going to happen. First off because in some places the roadway is only one lane in each direction, widening a road for a deicated bus lane would take time and money, which people do not like. Not to mention having to re do sidewalks. (When they wisened Montauk Hwy in my area widen the road a few inches to make a continuis turning lane, they had to redo all the sidewalks, or put them in, and had to set them back a foot from where they had been taken a foot from some stores parking lots.) People and stores would not like losing their street side parking, not to mention in those villages that have those spaces metered would not like losing the income just so bus riders can have their own lane. And to deticate a bus lane in a place that has muiltiple lanes for traffic would just add to the traffic. Not to mention how do you enforce such a thing. If anyone deserves a deticated lane on Long Island, it should be the Volunteer Fire Departments and other emergency respnders. (Now on that I'm bais as I have had family members who have been volunteers, one of which was serverly injured while responding to a fire in a fire truck with it's lights and sirens on.) As long as people can drive, own a vehicle, car pool, ride a bike, or walk; nobody is going to care about transit nor do anything to make it better.

  7. I don't think that you can keep the level of service Nassau has now, or even what it was when the MTA operated the system with $1.00 fare. As a case in point Suffolk's fare was $1.50 for nearly twenty years, and they have no Sunday Service, very little late night service and nearly all routes have hourly headway.
  8. They should be, though depending on Veolia practices/policy's. Some companies policy's are if the driver is late then they lose their break so they are running close to the schudule time or to make up time. As for better on time service, try telling people with cars not to drive their cars and take Transit. I bet nearly half of all bus delays are because of traffic.

  14. SCT has always been aware of their problems. It was said back in the mid 80's that SCT knew that their service wasn't the best but due to the size of the county and lack of money what they had was the best they could do. The reason they haven't been able to do anything was that there was always a budget problem (which lead to at least 4 routes being cut from 1990-1999) where they didn't have the funds and they had a ridership that couldn't afford the fare hikes that were needed to expand service and didn't want said fare hikes. Now the County has a government that is willing to use Transportation as a way to better help the budget (one fare increase went to helping the county budget) and a ridership that seemes for the most part willing to accept a fare increase if it means added service. (There was a little annouance when they raised the fares to help the county budget.)

  16. Bellone actually made sure something was done about it, Levy had brought the subject up but never really followed through with it since the riders weren't keen on paying higher fares for it during his time in office.
  17. The Sunday Service had nothing to do with the LIBRU, Suffolk had been looking to add Sunday Service for years but never had the money for it. Money from the state and a ridership more willing to take a fare increase for the added service then ridership in the pass led to Sunday Service. LIBRU hopped on something that had probably been in the works for years and has taken claim for helping it which has caused the person to misinterpreate the facts.
  18. The east end really got hit hard, I'm suprised they actually ran those routes at all today.
  19. It had been 6, Suffolk Changed it to 5pm some time afterards according to the twitter account.
  20. Someone was told that the ex Foothill buses would be numbered in the low 1000's. I don't know how reliable the info is, but they I wouldn't be suprised if the Ex Foothill buses kept their numbers minus of course the letter F. I'm not sure about the plates, I mean I would assume that they would need New York Plates. Someone on BusChat asked about the Cali plates still being on and someone replied something about since the buses were sold in Cali that they needed the Cali plates. Though the person didn't say if the buses could operate in NY with the Cali plates or they just needed the Cali plates on until they got here.
  21. Here is a link to one of the Ex Foothill Transit recently painted just like the rest of the Orion V's http://instagram.com/p/yA0UPHFMY1/?modal=true Based on the plate # it should have been F1246.

  24. Probably a transffer between depots for either miliage or for replacement. That would make it hard to keep a Depot roster but not really impossible. I have all the buses assigned to Suffolk Bus Corp broken down by depot and they transffer buses between the depots which makes it hard to keep track of where the buses are, but I keep it updated as well as I can. (I normally keep a bus listed at the transffered Depot until it is spotted again on a route to is normal assigned depot)
  25. That's a good question. I don't know any possible answer to that, and I wouldn't be suprised if there isn't one. My guess would be that if the S94 had been run by a private company Suffolk just kept the route as it was. (I'd say 90% of the bus route were kept as they were from when private operators ran the bus routes) So if it was kept the same as a private operator ran things then you would have to find that company and maybe they would know why they never ran to Montauk Station.
