  1. If I recall correctly, the 10000 series and up are for former revenue cars converted for work service. Like the old redbirds. A 9500 would become 19500 for example.
  2. You DO know they had to build the new WTC and Memorial right over and under it, right? Then, Port Authority had to finish the new PATH station and remove the temporary entrances before any substantial work could begin. These factors DO exist, have existed, and now that those obstacles are out of the way, the station can be completed. And with Three WTC opening in June, there are no more obstacles in the way of Cortlandt Street opening in October.
  3. So, what you're telling me is, if you KNOW the ferry leaves every 30 minutes outside the rush, you're NOT gonna time yourself to make a specific ferry? What? If you KNOW you're going to miss the normal ferry you take, for whatever reason, and if you have a good idea as to how long that thing may take, you can definitely make out which later ferry to catch. It's not rocket science. I had to do it every day. Many others have to do it every day. You live on Staten Island. You know how this works. Hell, even people who don't take the ferry everyday know better. It's not some new conundrum. The logic of some of you makes me want to die. My father got a good laugh out of that as well.
  4. THEN YOU TIME YOUR TRIP ON THE SUBWAY TO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ENOUGH TIME TO MAKE IT. It's not hard. Many on the island, I'm sure, do it. Why shouldn't you do this sensible thing that responsible adults would need to do on ANY form of transportation to get where they need to go? Also, why did you assume I was talking about the SI side of the commute when we were CLEARLY talking about the ? Simmer down please.
  5. Then you time yourself to catch it. Nothing more. I've had to do it. Most on the island, I'm sure, do as well.
  6. The original subway consists of Contracts One and Two. The October 27th, 1904 opening was just of contract One.
  7. So I've decided that the series will revolve around questions. Each episode being about 5-7 minutes long (topic/content/time willing lol). Each addressing a specific question, each question belonging to a category. The former episode topics listed in the quote are some of the topics. Obviously, there are more. So, aside from an introductory video explaining my intentions for this series, I've decided that the first episode should revolve around a question I'm not sure many regular folk get. Simply put: What is the MTA? That is where I'll begin. Funnily enough, while putting this all down on paper, I've come to realize that there are things I need to brush up on. People, politics, and the like. Yay! Learning for all and that is how it should be. I'm not shooting a thing until Spring hits though. No smart person shoots in the cold, trust me. The fire of inspiration is lit. Also, because I have no shame, I made a small doc via a non-profit in Brooklyn called Reel Works that talked about my interest in subways as well as my time in foster care. It's 8 minutes long and called "This Is: Connections". It can be found on reelworks.org. That was for those who've been wondering who I am or those I've met who may just want to learn a little more about me. Looking forward to the results of this project.
  8. Seems they are testing the new Kawasaki trucks on an R160. Can't see the number as the photo focuses on the trucks. Hope they work well and pass their tests. But I'm not in doubt that they will.
  9. So I've been mulling on what project I should do next since I haven't created anything since I went to Paris back in 2015. So I've finally decided to begin pre-production on a documentary series on the subway. I decided on the number six a long, LONG time ago as the episode count for the first series. What I need from you guys, and maybe from your friends as well, is six topics you think should be talked about. The top six topics will become the six episodes. In no specific order, I was thinking: Operations, Fares, Emergencies, Crime, Maintenance, and Future Developments. PM me if you have ideas. My goal is nothing more than to get information to the public. Which will be an easy task considering my connections. People are more receptive to information when it comes from visual media. And I think this is a good way for people to start getting answers. Independent of an obviously biased MTA. Not only is it a chance for other, unwashed, individuals to learn, but for me as well. It's time I've put everything I've learned film related to maximum use. However, if I get no input, those I've listed will be the topics.
  10. Subarashii. Beautiful design that I hope to see on the R211.
  11. I can't get behind that. First of all, last I checked, this is a discussion forum. Second, fleet assignments caused by this order are quite relevant. Third, there's been no news aside from whatever is related to last weeks board meeting. As someone stated before, speculation isn't abnormal anywhere. If you don't want to see it, why not just skip it? Until ENY or someone spills la habichuelas, all we can do is speculate. Why should people be forced to not discuss just because some are tired of seeing it? That's quite anti-discussion if you ask me. Many of these members are new. You're are likely to push them away with what I've observed within these forums the last couple weeks.
  12. That's what he said. It's there as a fail-safe. Compared to Canarsie.
  13. And you would be able to give The Bronx two lines instead of one. I don't feel like reiterating 10-walls worth if text on why that's a better terminal than 125th and Lex today. People may say that the river tube will drive up costs, but compared to spending around 3 Billion on a single terminal, it's worth it. Plus, the Harlem River isn't that long nor that deep. With the Immersed Tunnel method, that thing should t even cross the 1 billion mark in price.
  14. The time of day the service runs does not dictate whether or not a service gets new cars. Because the Eastern Division is another area that generally always got older cars. Until the millennium generation arrived. That was a change of practice. If the primarily gets these cars, which it has been slated to for years, it too would be a change in practice. Besides, I can't see the seeing these too much. It's a showcase service. The R211 is where it will shine.
  15. Things always change. This IS the MTA. Nothing is ever truly decided. Until we hear word from those who matter, none of this means a thing to me.
  16. Problem you continue to forget. The MTA got 16 free cars from Bomb. These are going to expand the amount of 10-car trains from 4 to 12. service generally runs 6-tph. That's a train every 10-minutes. 12 trains is just enough for the service. I'm likely wrong on that figure, but a few (3 or 4) 8-car trains can be sprinkled in if need be. At this point, the doesn't really need to share. Besides. Its fleet is a few years away.
  17. These aren't complaints. Speculation, yes. But not complaints. Frankly, it's all we can do until the summer where I expect some news to drop.
  18. A fit? Anyone who knows me knows that I don't blow fits. I prefer the cool, straight-laced method of destruction. The amendment of the order to include those 16 new B-cars means that instead of 4 trains of 10-cars, we now have 12. Which is just enough to cover with a few 8-car trains filling the balance. I see the R32s moving off 8th Avenue for the shutdown to supplement the services that need to accommodate the extra riders.. But at the risk of digging up old, worn out topics, I'll end that there.
  19. The deal is that almost since Day 1, way back in 2010, these cars were going to go to 8th Avenue. Because their original intent was to replace the R44. With the life extension of the R32, and transfers of R46 to the due to R160s going to Jamaica and premature retirement of said R44s, the order was modified for the and . Again, where else can they go? Instead of being a smartass, you can provide a thought. Whether or not you be eviscerated is TBD.
  20. Not to mention, DJ Hammers, who I know of personally, is a recent addition compared to posters who have been on the money for years now. Until they make their announcements, I'll take things with three grains of salt.
  21. You DO know that, historically, the has never, ever, gotten its own fleet of brand new cars right? This fleet was always intended to be mostly for the . We can care less about opinions. Facts are Facts. And the facts are that the needs new trains. And there's really nowhere else for the R179 to go. So I'll wait for someone like East New York or TheReal to break the news. They are some of the most reliable people on here, after all.
  22. Question. So I'm clear as I haven't been as active lately. What is the plan for the R32? How many are to be retired when the R179s come in? How many are to remain? Last I heard was about half. Has that changed? I can care less about assignments.
  23. Yes. If the test trains pass (which I have zero doubt on), all options will be R211Ts. If not, which I doubt, they will be all R211As.
  24. Why? The whole reason they switched in the first place was to give the direct access to a yard. The had access to Jamaica as well as CIY. No sense in switching it again. And even before that, taking Broadway Express service from Astoria? lol
