  1. Who says to dig under it? 1st Avenue usn't under it. Plus, doesn't the Steinway Tubes already do that?
  2. Yes you can. The Paris Metro has done it and they have stations right at the shoreline of the Seine River and is just as old as our own subway.
  3. You can always go deeper. Have you forgotten that the and dips lower to pass under the Park Avenue Tunnel?
  4. Well, I've been planning this out for about a week, and am still planning. This is my proposal for a new set of lines that converge into a 1st Avenue Trunk Line. The idea came to me when I realized that the current Second Avenue subway plans won't truly solve the East Side subway problem, being only two tracks. Even if it is extended to another borough, at max, it can only hold three services. The and on the upper section. Then the and a possible line from Queens on the lower portion. Being an all local, how attractive could it really be to those passing through Manhattan? The First Avenue Subway is a plan that adds 7 routes to the system that will serve not only Manhattans East side, but also serve The Bronx, Brooklyn, and Queens. The Trunk Line in Manhattan will be a six track line and will consist of two levels. The upper level will contain 4 tracks and host regular local and express services. A two track lower level will host super express trains. The trunk line itself will hold 7 services and will allow for up to 60 trains per hour. An 8th route will be a line that runs via a spur from the 8th Avenue line and adding a local service to a trunk line in Williamsburg. Let's just pretend this city has money and can demolish buildings to make a new street. Yeah, let's do that. I'm still planning outer borough connections but I've planned for services in Brooklyn as well. When it comes to services, there aren't enough letters in the alphabet, so I've taken the from Jamaica. Sorry passengers, but PROGRESS! The line in Manhattan will be six tracks from the Harlem River to just about East 5th Street. At Houston Street, the line will split, with 6 tracks running east via Houston to Brooklyn, and two tracks will continue downtown to Fulton Center. Super Express Lines: and Express Lines: (P), , and Local Routes (In Manhattan): (X) and 8th Avenue Spur and 2nd Brooklyn Local: [The World Trade Center Station will no longer be in use for regular service] ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Stations are: 125th Street [Local] 116th Street [Local] 110th Street [Local] 103rd Street [Local] 96th Street [super Express] 86th Street [Local] 79th Street [Local] 70th Street [Express] 61st Street [Local] 57th Street [Local] 49th Street [Local] 42nd Street-United Nations [super Express] (Xfer to ) 34th Street [Express] 29th Street [Local] 20th Street-Stuyvesant Town [Local] 14th Street [Express] (Xfer to ) St. Marks Place-East Village [Local] [Around E 5 Street, two extra tracks are created, a Local and an Express utilizes them. Both services will make all stops.] Houston Street [super Express] (Xfer to ) *Note, the Main Trunk has turned onto Houston at this station. The downtown branch remains on Allen Street (1st Avenue) Main Trunk stations after Houston: Avenue C [Local] *The line then heads to Brooklyn. Next stop: Washington Plaza [Local] Branch Line Stations: Delancey Street-Allen Street [Transfer to and ] Chatham Square [Transfer to and ] Church Street-Broadway (Transfer to and ) *Last Stop 8th Avenue Spur [via Worth Street and East Broadway] stations: Lafayette Street Chatham Square Essex-Rutgers Streets Columbia Street ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Some details on station locations: 125th Street pretty much sits under the Triborough Bridge. It provides transit for the adjoining housing projects. 70th and 29th Street stations are to serve hospitals in the area. 70th is Express because it serves more hospitals. 20th Street exists to give the residents of Peter Cooper village and Stuy Town more transit options. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ On the Lower Manhattan branch, just south of Houston Street station at Stanton Street would be a provision for a spur to connect to the Grand Street Station for possible service across the Manhattan Bridge. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This post will evolve over the coming days and weeks as I plan. Brooklyn is almost done. The sole Queens line is still in planning and the Bronx lines are also in planning. Thanks for reading.
  5. If you're going to say anything, please use proper sentences and coherent thoughts.
  6. So the only other option left for the R46s is the ?
  7. Well, from what I've seen from a mock-up, a slightly updated front. The sides curved like the R160, but instead of one stainless steel stripe, it will look like the M7 where there are two thicker stripes. One above, and one below the windows. I may be wrong though.
  8. Not it. Unlike the IND, in which a lot of stations can handle 11 60 foot cars, the I.R.T. can't. The only reason the line does is because there was a time where the B.M.T. had trackage rights to run trains on both the Astoria and Corona Lines.
  9. Jan-March=3 Months=One Quarter Apr-Jun Jul-Sep Oct-Dec 3x4=12
  10. Sorry, but all you really need to know that there are 12 months in a year, each quarter is three months. Then count it out. An elementary school student could have figured that out.
  11. Realizm, thank you for pointing that out, because I'm dealing with those exact people right now, who believe a person with no proof over a person who's track record shows right here on these forums. Everything seemed to be going fine, a January 2015 delay just seems like too much. I really wasn't expecting the 10 car train to come first since they aren't really replacing anything. On the aesthetics part, yeah, it looks similar to the R143/160. But there's a difference between similar and too much like. At least for me. I tend to forget that not everyone has as much of an eye for detail like I do.
  12. Obvious for people who can see. I've already run across quite a few people who have seen the mock-up and still say it looks too much like the R143/160.
  13. I kinda got that from the mock-up, which was already quite distinct in my eyes.
  14. I've been meaning to pot this for the last three months, but there is an S60 sign still up at the CLOVE RD/SCHOHARIE ST stop for the S53.
  15. There are announcement programs for almost any service pattern available in the B Division. Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it in my opinion.
  16. Well Tokyo (Almost typed Tokkyu which means Special Express) is a level below us from a global standpoint. Tokyo (almost did it again. Damn you Ressha Sentai ToQger [Tokkyuger]) is one of the cities that fills the global services that London and NYC don't have.
  17. I love the fact you mentioned London, considering it's the only other city in the world at the same economic level as New York City.
  18. You seem to forget that our money problems come from getting into useless conflicts that cost trillions of dollars, as well as our government printing money out of thin air. There are many factors to why things cost so much here, but it all comes down to the fact this country is screwed financially. Some other countries have more valuable money, or just more money. Others have less strict labor laws. And if you wanna get technical, had World Wars One and Two not happened, it would have been done a long time ago. These wars almost caused the IND First Phase to not be finished. Another thing that delayed this thing is peoples hate for Els. Sorry, I'm rambling. I give the U.S. until 2025.
  19. Dude, almost every class of car the city's subways operated has been nearly the same to one another. (That applies to cars with similar designs.) Why do people feel the need to keep pointing that out? Evolutionary, not Revolutionary. The MTA is not making the R44/46 mistake again.
  20. Those numbers were for rush hour expresses. the would be (8), the changed to 11. The Thru Express would have been (12) I think. Things like that.
  21. They should. Especially since they share propulsion systems.
  22. Cars R1-R14 had exterior door controls that lacked a system to keep doors locked when the train was in motion, hence the door issues. Everything R15 and after had it.
  23. Didn't a train or two remain on the line?
  24. I'm glad Im not the only one that thinks that way. It does get tiring repeating that over and over. Starting to debate whether or not the term "fan" is even proper for certain people anymore. There was one time I took a pic of Queens Plaza, and somebody said "That picture would have been better if the garbage can wasn't in it". I'm like, IT WAS THERE FOR A PURPOSE. I like to show the subway how it actually is, to show, "Hey, these things exist and not everyone throws their trash on the ground".
  25. Well, from news articles from the time, the original plans were for either Rogers or Nostrand with Nostrand being chosen.
