  1. So? Nothing is perfect. Just because something is X years old, doesn't mean problems can be completely fixed. Not to mention that these things are in the toughest subway system on the planet. Most of these computers are running 24/7 while hitting bumps, curves, heat, cold, rain, sleet, snow. All kinds of environments. Parts are flexing and contracting. Shaken and stirred. I bet you if your computer went through that treatment, it'd be finished. Cut the tech some slack. At least it works and does what it's supposed to do. Every machine is glitch prone. You can only do so much. But when you are going through everything I stated above, glitches can be more likely. So again, cut the tech some slack. Strip maps have glitches too. Aaaaand you gotta worry about lights going out as well.
  2. Why are you all pointing out extensively that a machine has glitches. IT'S A MACHINE! It's going to do that. You people act as if just because it's in a subway car, it's supposed to be glitch free.
  3. Which is why I've always referred to it as a local express.
  4. Well, if the order is in two car sets........began on an even number.........and had an even number of sets........than of course most of the numbers would be even. And by most, I mean half.
  5. Is there any particular reason why I just saw an XD40 on 42nd Street via PIX11? Extra service over there later?
  6. Really? R147, R150-R152, R154, R158, R163, R165-168, R171, R173, R176, R178, R180, R183-187 are all empty. The only numbers that will can be filled after 188 will be 189-210. You know, since things happen sequentially. And what do you mean by minimal time between eachother defines generations? The time between R179 and 211 should be similar to the time between R179 and 160 and 143. An average of 3-5 years in between each other, and a relatively short time. Going by what you said, it's what comes for the R142 and 143 replacements that would be the "next generation". R162-12 Crane cars R164 funded the options for the R142/A R169-2 AC Dynometers R170-3 Overhead cranes R172-2 Ballast Regulators R174-Identical to R156 R175-Replacement Shop equipment R177-Third Vacuum Train R179 cars R181-207 Yard Overhaul shop cranes ans equipment R182 AC/DC Tracton Motor Dynometers R188 cars R211 cars. I never said there was. I said that might be where they are going with it. And don't say that's not possible, because it is. It's just a thought, why so serious?
  7. I did say "Any numbers not covered up to R142 are taken by work cars". After R146 MANY numbers are not taken by anything. Not even equipment. And that wouldn't be a secret code. That would be, "Let's group up each Generation"
  8. They said they are buildig off the 160. Just like the 160 built off the 143. Why is it that you think that just because the car is built by someone else, it can't be similar? Have you forgotten the SMEEs already? Not all of them were built by the same company and yet every car from R10-R38 along with the R62/A and R68/A are almost identical under the hood. I like how you said "Nonsense. Contract numbers are assigned sequentially" yet there are ALOT of empty spaces. Why is it that the next gen NTT is the 211 and not anything between 189-199? How much you wanna bet that 3 orders after the 211, the next next gen will be a 300. Think about it. NTT prototypes are the R130 and R131 (Design phase numbers are R110A/B). The first NTTS are R142 and R143. Next is R160. Followed by R179 and R188. Now entering the Next Generation, first number is 211. Anything not covered until R142 are work cars. R146 is the last fully sequential contract number used. In the 150s, we have the R156 which built off the 160. 160s and 170s are virtually empty aside from the notable R174 (Identical to R156). The 188 is the only car in the 180s. 2 other slots in the 180s that are filled belong to equipment. I feel that's the way they are going. Makes sense?
  9. Actually, they will be very similar under the hood to the R160. That was known for a long time. It seems that nowadays, major design changes are reflected by the first digit number of the contract. The first design change will obviously be the R211 which was again, already stated..
  10. I heard the power problems in the Rockaways were solved last year. @RollOverMyHead: Only the 64 R160s on the are CBTC compatible. They had to be retrofitted though. The same could be done with any NTT really.
  11. Two things: 1) Just like R179s going to the , can someone explain the logic of them going to Jamaica? By the time that the 5 car sets of 179s arrive, Phase I SAS should be almost done. Therefore like always specified. 2) I'm confident that the R211 will be CBTC compatible. BUT. That would mean giving the and lines R160s. EDIT: I thought about it and, point 2 ACTUALLY makes sense as it would, for the most part, simplify maintanence as Pitkin would be all NTT.
  12. I'm waiting for someone to explain the logic in the R179s going to the .
  13. The most recent CPOC said Summer. But whatever, as long as it comes lol
  14. The first train is supposed to be on property summer of next year with production cars following in 2015.
  15. On R188 related news. I don't know. I just wanted to talk lol
  16. But this is a special case. So it's technically already known. It's a small enough order that will have no choice to go to the lines already specified and that's further reinforced by the way the order is set up. When it comes to subway cars, their minds don't change too much.
  17. Anywhoo, it's nice to finally feel like the R179 isnt too far away. For me at least, once babies start popping up everywhere, time flies. 2014 will be here in not time.
  18. And when it comes to the mechanical aspect, the design for the R62 and R68 is of the R36 because the R44/46 designs were a failure.
  19. But they were also mostly underground and out of the elements.
  20. And they (R68/A) carry the reliable design of the R36, so I have hopes they'll last longer than that.
  21. People who say the R42 won't last keep forgetting that they don't run that much. If something doesn't run that much, then they should last a bit longer than expected, right?
  22. See, I believe the R42s can last. The first train of R179 is supposed to arrive summer next year. 90 Day test after pre-service testing and if all goes well, the rest of the R179 should begin delivery in early 2015. The R42 can definitely last 'till 2015. And before anyone makes the "Let's see if they keep that schedule" comment, when it comes to subway cars, unless the builder has a problem, car orders tend to be on time.
  23. Trust me, there are still people who think otherwise. They've just been quiet lately.
  24. I don't agree with things that aren't common sense. You just gotta know your shapes. Circles and Diamonds.
  25. Genius, I was talking about R62As going to the . Since for some reason, that's counted as speculation as well.
