  1. This is how I see it: The R142/R143 were the R1/R9s and R12/R14s of the New millennium. They presented a new design along with new tech and a new look to fit with the times. The R160s were the R16s of the new millennium. They are overweight but they have basically set the bar for a practical design with the expected flaws while at the same time, setting the design standard for many future car orders. The R179 may basically be the Redbirds of the new age. Improving on the design of the R160s and reducing weight. This may be the most reliable and repeatable design for New Tech cars until something better comes along. The most they may do is change the color of the front bonnet and interiors. Same for everything between R16 and R38 only this time, the sides don't need to be painted. The next outer body change may come with the replacements for either the R68s or the R142s. But that's just my thoughts. I know there are going to be those few that have a shotgun in hand so I'm prepared lol
  2. The original order was 1,700 but was reduced to 1,662 due to economic problems.
  3. The can't just expand an order of cars on a whim, they have to have the budget for it as well. The R110s were test trains, therefore mass producing would've been stupid. Especially since they were never planned to run long term anyway. The R160 order was originally supposed to be 1,700 cars. It was decreased to 1,662 because of budget problems. Especially since the economy was going down in 2008-09 anyway. But had those extra cars been ordered, their yard placement would not have changed.
  4. I was just wondering what depots hold the Prevosts because I saw one on the [X42] on Monday. Not sure of the number since I was too busy wondering why I wasn't on that side of the street to catch it lol
  5. In the base order there will be 2 new pure R188 trains. How many will be in the option, I have forgotten.
  6. A pure R188 is a brand new car, not a conversion. And how can a whole train be inserts? The C cars aka Pure 188s are the inserts. Then there are the brand new R188 trains as well.
  7. Thanks for pointing out the hissing brakes because it wasn't till just now when I thought about it, that I realised I haven't heard it in years. Wow I miss that.
  8. I doubt they've begun constructing pure R188s yet.
  9. But that was before the R44s were replaced on the mainline. I think the plan is for the SIR to receive converted R46s and run those until the delivery of the R211.
  10. Well the order was originally supposed to be 1,700 cars but was decreased to 1,662 for financial reasons. Though the difference is really minor. It most likely would'be been enough to replace those R42s and that's it.
  11. That sir, is not junk. It's an antique.
  12. So cutting what wasmost likely his last class means no life? lol anywhoo, nice to see some kind of progress on this order.
  13. How many (J)s are run during the late nights? i'd say 4-6. All you'll need are 2 or 3 trains not being used, uncouple them in CI yard and run them over to Chambers Street for service. It cant be that hard. It only has to be done for late night service. Its just that those trains'll have to be the last ones to go back into regular daytime service on their respective routes. EXAMPLE: If it ever did happen which i doubt is likely, Take a train onto the Sea Beach express track. Spit it and head off to the Nassau Line. Do the opposite on the way back to prepare it for daytime service on another line. The process to decouple shouldn't take more than 10 minutes.
  14. How? Whenever i'm on the at 2-3am, including last night, the trains are half full. Taking three cars off a train during late nights shouldn't be that much of a problem. It'll just make the train look more full. (if that was english.)
  15. They're not restricted, just not used on the line. There is a difference between just not using them on certain lines and having cars that are too heavy and long to use the line. The 5-car R160s could run on the Eastern division, but just as the 5 cars alone. Which i dont think would be a bad idea for the line between 2-4 or 5am.
