  1. While I'm no longer in any position to make you do anything here anymore, I would strongly recommend you guys drop this crap. It's not that big of a deal. Their just trains. And by the way, wasn't this swap due to work on the CBTC-enabled 160A-1s and not A/C problems on the 32s?

I have a letter in my hands from the District 4 (C)(H) Superintendent that this swap was to alleviate the A/C conditions on the 32's

  2. It's very strange to get another drug test letter so soon, was just there in May, now have to go back 7/3. We're going to be jamming up their phones on Monday! Trying not to miss any days of schoolcar until the medical.

call because I hate calling there. I can feel thru the phone that I'm bothering them.

  3. The drug test last 60 days. I took mine 5/10 My new letter is for 7/10 I went thru the same thing for C/R. Its another Drug test. they will CALL YOU for a medical and final processing.

I just called HR, I have to call back on Monday because the head of the dept is on vacation, but the women over the phone told me the DT is good for 90 days, so this might be for the medical. I'll get back to you guys on Monday to verify this.

  4. between now and this weekend they should start swapping the 40 R160A-1s and R32s, since July 1st is the start date for the R160A-1s to start service on the (C)

34 street northbound local during the morning rush should be interesting on the local platform. that plat is wall to wall people waiting for an E to go to Lexington. So now when they see a 160 (C) pulling up I wish I can be there and watch the confusion.

  5. That's effin' retarded. How are the supervisors expected to have C/R's do their jobs in overseeing operations and ensuring appropriate order, conduct and safety for the strap-hangers on a train in service, keeping in contact with central command without radios? Sorry, some of the people above your heads sometimes, really. Reminds me of the nonsense in the IT dept I had to deal with with a certain city agency before I said the heck with it and went private sector. My former supervisors and directors expecting me to fix problems without PARTS........

The TA is still running strong all these years so I'm sure there were ways about things back then.

  6. ....and a speedometer, horn, air comfort & carbody light on/off switch, and reset button. Not to mention the master controller and brake handle.

Ok and as a conductor are those things necessary? Tell me yes and then all those years when c/r's operated on 40 & 42 equimpent and everything else behind that with no seat and 1 window with door controls were wrong.

Well, the thread is done for me, at least, so you're gonna be waiting quite a while......

Nobody missing any of your misinformation. Keep on trucking.

  7. Damn.  I can understand the B cab lacking a pressure gauge, but the lack of a seat is just harsh.  It's bad enough as it is from what I've heard.

When the R-10's were around, conductors operated the doors from between cars all the way from Rock Park to Bedford park or Rock Park to 179 Street LOCAL both ways, so its been alot worse.

  8. How do the B cabs of the R-32s lack the proper controls? How are those controls not sufficient?

They have the same door controls as the A cabs do. He's never operated from the B end. I broke my ass on that (A) last year with the 32 equipment going to the rocks LOCAL both ways in that B cab as many conductors from the past 100 years have. The only thing that it doesn't have that the A cabs have is a seat and an air pressure gauge.

  9.

Anyway, I can tell you with certainty that the (A) is never going to see the R32's again. They have been specifically banned from that line, as well as any other line which runs with 10 cars, due to the lack of proper controls in the B-cab for conductors,

WTF are you talking about? Where did you hear that?

  10. That's awesome! I went down to 180 this week to clear my medical hold for T/O. I was told by the HR desk that June 24th is filled (which I already knew.) I was also informed, by the woman who oversees T/O hiring, that there will be a July class. They just don't know the date yet. I cleared my hold, and hopefully I'll get into the July class.

To anyone who's gone for "processing": What is that like? TA wouldn't reveal many details, except that it's an all-day affair. What exactly happens? You sit with an investigator, painstakingly reviewing the 21-page booklet; stuff like that? Curious to know what I'll be in for. Thanks!

Its been mentioned here about 50 thousand times, you need to look back at all the comments. Not trying to be a dick but its been mentioned 50 thousand times.

  11. It went something like this.

Me: This is Jay St-Metrotech, transfer to the (F) and cross over for (A) & (C) towards Manhattan

Foamer: Hey when is this equipment gonna start running on the (A) again?

Me: It isn't. This is a (C) local train to Euclid Ave

Foamer: But they did it last summer!

Me: Well they aren't this year. Next stop will be Hoyt-Schemememrmerhorn

Foamer: But they do it every summer! When are they gonna do it?

Me: *ignores him cuz I already answered him twice* Stand clear of the closing doors please!

And realizm, I just took a long vacation (both from work and the message boards) last month. I'm out of vacation days for the year....but yeah, I could use another one already.....

You sure that conversation didn't happen with yourself between stops?

  12. Cancelled road trips due to lack of available equipment, limited equipment to practice troubleshooting and do yard moves (cuts & adds). Our instructors were Goding & Moran. The 1st couple of weeks we had Jones, Shah, Hill and Labianca (sp?).

A couple of times they pulled one of our instructors to cover another class leaving us with one TSS.

Goding is a good guy, I had him for my Conductor class. Labianca is Mr. Schoolcar himself. He wrote alot of induction books. I've been seeing alot of classes at 207 in the morning, but haven't seen Goding. That sucks that your class isn't getting a full treatment of whats to be learned. I hope they take that into consideration when its time for tests & finals.

  13. *facepalm*

We just went through this in the last few pages ago. The R40s and R42s only have C/R controls at the blind ends, not the faces. And as per rule, the C/R is suppose to be in the middle position where passengers can see him/her.

Ok where did you here this because on the (J) the C/R's are not in the middle with 42 equipment

  14. I know, another thing is that those R32s might just stay there until retirement and the R42 may go bye bye or go to the A or to work service due to them rotting (again this is just a rumor)

Send them to garbage trains and return the 32's Why don't they do this? They have cold A/C for the workers.

  15. There were problems with the LIPA power supply in the Rockaways, wasn't providing enough power for the 160s to run properly. I've heard rumors about it being fixed though.

Plus these are probably Siemens units, so the power consumption might be different compared to the Alstom units that were tested in 2006.

Its been fixed, I asked a supervisor the other day at the rocks. When will we see one out there? Who knows.
