  1. Why does this thing say I'm a bus operator?

  2. There is no "driver" on the trains, the person operating the train is called the engineer. Regardless, he (or she) does not make announcements. If there is a problem with the ASI (automated system) all announcements are made my the conductor (or assistant conductor).
  3. I'm not doubting you would get into trouble. I just know from experience that all the end doors of all the other types of cars have no locking mechanisms and I'm guessing that the M8's are no exception. The barrel end doors can be latched, but not locked. The only way the cab door can be positively locked is when cab door is closed half cab.
  4. Will these be locked or do they have the ability to be opened by pushing on them like the M7A's. Last I knew any train could not be locked in the full cab position in the event of the need of emergency egress in the tunnels.
  5. Ok, sorry. I didn't know I was supposed to. Most know my stand on parts of the discussion.

  6. Engineers are seldom seen by the public except for the occasional glimpse in a cab car or emu and never seen if in a locomotive. The exception is when they detrain @ GCT. I personally think it would be a waste of money to supply uniforms to engineers based on the seldom interaction with passengers.
  7. I can't speak for LIRR but Metro North spells out what type of boots must be worn. Some of the spec's include "a defined heel", "slip-resistant soles" and "At least a six-inch high ankle". As far as uniforms, the only personnel required to wear uniforms are those that directly interact with the passengers. These include conductors, ticket sellers, ushers, customer service rep's and commissary personnel (bartenders).
  8. I can give it a shot with the stations I'm familiar with.

  9. Whether or not a phone call will help? I do not know but it can't hurt. If nothing else it will show the recruiter that you are still interested.

  10. I could be wrong but I think I'm the one that answered you in a different message board. If not, let me know.

  11. There is a chance that even though there are vacancies for a given position today, there won't be tomorrow due to bumping. In other words, if I got bumped from my position I could bump into either a vacant inventory control clerk job or one held by someone of less seniority.
