  1. Well, this is the last weekday of current service. Monday there will be no N6 Limited , but there will be the N6 Express, N22 Express, N17, N43 Hempstead Extension, N16 NCC Non-Stop., N2/N8 Loop, reduced mid-day frequencies, etc. Sunday we'll see the N24 Extension/N79 truncation, N23/N27 Combo, No N21, Rearrangement of the Hempstead Bus Terminal, Mineola Intermodal Center and Roosevelt Field Bay assignments, etc.
  2. There was nothing else added like "peak hours only"? Are they still working with the MTA (besides leasing the fareboxes and some buses)?
  3. Well, you know what they say, A penny saved is a route saved? lol.
  4. So that's what it takes to properly inform the public? lol That article was seemingly the opposite. It had factual information without a negative slant, with full quotes from Setzer. It mentioned cuts as well as positive additions and improvements to service.
  5. NICE bus schedule throughout Nassau County changes April 8; Able-Ride unchanged Continue reading on Examiner.com NICE bus schedule throughout Nassau County changes April 8; Able-Ride unchanged - Long Island populist | Examiner.com http://www.examiner....d#ixzz1r2PUBqvx Wow, an informative article with facts as opposed to uninformed/non-researched, slanted BS. I commend Karen Rubin
  6. I saw a couple of new Nice signs today. - N Franklin and Fulton St has the new sign with the N17 and N16 on it, southbound. I didn't look for the Northbound Side. - Meacham Ave and Hempstead Turnpike has the new N2/N8 NICE sign. I haven't checked Dutch Broadway for N2 stickers yet. - N6X stickers replaced the N6 Limited stickers at Westminster Road, & Terrace/Hilton Aves. A blank sticker is covering the N6 Limited portion of the other limited stops. (not sure about Queens though) - East Gate Blvd, has N22X and N24 sticker; More N78/79 signs have been covered by N24 Stickers. -Nothing has been done at the Roosevelt Field stop as of yet, it might confuse riders looking for their actual bus. - Nothing has been done at Hempstead Transit Center also. (all they have to do put the N17 bay back into service, find a bay for the N43 to use, and add the N23 to the N27 bay) -New schedules are available at the Hempstead Bus Terminal. -There is a NICE bus map that says "Effective April 2012" towards the "Front" of the terminal, but it must have been printed before the approved PDF on the site. It shows the N23 Continuing from Mineola Intermodal Center along Old Country Road and Continuing to Hicksville via East Gate Blvd & Old Country Road in the Nassau Hub Inset. Hmm, Original Plan not removed from map, or just a mistake?
  7. Possibly. They said they had grant money for new signs. Perhaps they're waiting to see how the service revisions go before ordering?
  8. New Sign? Or new sticker placed on an existing sign?
  9. That's what I'm wondering, they really don't have a need to replace them. They Might have new signs for the N17 possibly, but it's technically a waste of money to go around replacing signs in good condition when they could simply place a sticker on them if a route changes. Most routes still have the same destinations so technically there is no need to change the sign.
  10. It looks like a sticker, it probably is. Cheaper than a Magnet, and you can't just easily pull it off.
  11. Letter: NICE bus cuts hurt Nassau students http://www.newsday.c...dents-1.3634433 These organizations don't do their research. Its obvious they don't ride the bus.
  12. It is on the N24 schedule, its the 11PM bus from Hicksville on Saturdays. On the N79 Schedule it says "The 10:25 [pm, from Walt Witman Mall] n79 will continue to Mineola as n24 Departing Hicksville at 11:00PM"
  13. Yeah, the N79 does that now, they're keeping it in there. It looks like the N27 can cut through the parking lot and loop around. It actually shows on the System Map and theN24, N78/N79 schedules how the buses turn around.
  14. I saw 3 re-flashed buses on the N6's also (Bunched of course). 3 buses to Hempstead within 5 mins, on 10 min Headways. Anyway, someone mentioned this before, they're removing the street suffixes. On the Side Destination sign it alternated between "screens" 1- N6 HEMPSTEAD 2- HEMPSTEAD TRANSIT 3- CENTER 4-VIA HEMPSTEAD (something like that)
  15. I saw the new route stickers on the bus signs. They're made to cover the LIB route information rows. The route number is on the left side similar to how they are on the Bus Schedules. I think the lower case "N" was orange and the route number is blue. The destination under it in smaller all caps blue letters. Miscellaneous information on the lower right side in orange letters. -Some signs on Old Country Road closer to the Wantagh Parkway already have "n24" stickers covering the N78/N79. -NCC has some "n51" stickers saying "weekdays only". -Oak Street has "n23" and "n27" stickers. They look something like this: (getting myself familiar with the new board) ------------------------------------------------------ n27 HEMPSTEAD-------------------Peak hours only ------------------------------------------------------ n23 ---------------------------------Mid-day, nights HEMPSTEAD-------------------------and weekends ------------------------------------------------------
  16. Yeah I saw a N16 today with the new bolder readings, looks nice.
  17. The New system map is up: http://nicebus.com/Maps_and_Schedules/System_Map/index.html
  18. I found something else that's interesting: Inter-Departmental Memo Regarding the contract with Veolia from the Office of Legislative Budget Review : http://www.nassaucou...ontractMemo.pdf Contains some info like: -Veolia has to run with a lower budget because it cannot receive the MTA Subsidy that LIB received. -LIB ran a deficit for the past 3 years or so -Other Municipalities critique/opinion of Veolia's service.
  19. Cool catch. Nice, maybe their goal is to wrap all the O5's. Either they don't want to cover the Nice logo or all of the Nassau County Stripes, and/or the size of the ad depends on how much the advertiser wants to pay.
  20. Interesting, does it say "N27 Peak/N23 All other times" or "N23/N27 Manorhaven/Glen Cove Consult timetable for trips" something like that?
  21. Is 1758 Wrapped? I don't see the seams like on the other wrapped buses
  22. Yeah, a LOT of bunching is going on lately. They said that's their new focus, are they waiting till April 8th? Also, NYCDOT needs to get on the ball, Jamaica and Hillside Ave's need to be repaved, the N6 (and N22/N24) ride sucks while in Queens.
  23. About the N80/N81, Peter Schmitt was probably behind the off hands approach to those lines. The Long Island Bus Riders Union needs to mention THAT to the media. "Why were those sparsely used routes spared?" The N73/74 got frequency reductions. From what I gather from the contract: 1)They can eliminate up to 6 low use routes in the first six months. Reducing routes to peak only periods isn't a full cut so I'm not sure how that's counted. 2) The service report card and budget must be reviewed and reported to Nassau County every Quarter. (or something like that) 3) Service cuts that are more than 25% of a route's service must be looked over and approved by the County Transit Board (whatever they're called). So technically they can probably reduce service up to 24% on routes as necessary, per quarter, without being bothered. (Except for politicians and the Long Island Bus Riders Union trying to get their names out there).
  24. I think this video I found supports the reasoning for the service adjustments.
