Well, yes, we don't know what type of equipment will be utilized on the line to transport potential riders. If something productive comes from this study, then we might. Though I'm pretty sure it won't be boxcars, Amtrak Amfleets or maglev. But I'd like to hazard a guess that it'll likely be some sort of railcar that doesn't require a physical or a time separation from the freight trains that currently run there in keeping with FRA regulations. That's most likely to be a railcar closer in size to Metro-North's M8 or LIRR's M7 or M9 rolling stock than to Transit's R160 or R211 cars, but with interiors closer to those of R160s or R211s (with way more seats obviously). It should blur the lines between transit and mainline passenger rail a bit. The way London Overground does. And frankly, we could really use a bit more of that in North America. The old school attitude of "Transit is Transit and Railroad is Railroad and never the two shall meet" is a big reason why we hamper our rail infrastructure from working better to transport people and force them to choose driving over transit. That attitude in the US, and Canada to a lesser extent, has got to go.

Honestly, I don't expect the ridership numbers to rival that of a full-built Second Ave Subway with extensions to The Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens, but I would like to think that it could put a dent in the amount of cars getting onto the Belt Parkway or Kings Highway. And give some much-needed relief to the busy crosstown bus routes in South Brooklyn

Maybe they can use the converted Underground D-Stock that is being tested.

Interesting, I'm not familiar with LRVs, but I assume they're light rail cars? I could be wrong, but I would assume maybe something maybe something like the R211S's. Freight service is probably still going to be running around anyway so having them running around isn't all bad. LRVs are probably not the best approach for this.

LRV stands for Light Rail Vehicle. That's the common name given to many different models in the United States. I just really hope this is rail and not a BRT. Preferably heavy rail, most likely mainline, then light rail.

  3. It looks like the Triboro RX will finally be moving forward!

Today Governor Kathy Hochul announced her transformational vision for Brooklyn and Queens. The Interborough Express, running along 14mi of existing freight tracks, would stretch from Bay Ridge to Jackson Hts and could connect up to 17 subway lines + MTA LIRR, serving ~1M riders daily.

We’re going to begin an environmental review and work with our federal and state partners to make this project a reality.

All this time, I never saw mentioned, which garage will they operate out of? Will they keep their own garage, and it be added to the rosters, like when the DOT companies were taken over? Is the agency NYC Bus, or MTAB, or something separate?

Based out of NYCT Charleston Depot, they'll use the Prevost and the MCI that were brought over from MTA Bus. It's not like the MTA was taking over Academy. They just took over operations of the lines.

The order was originally suppose to start with 401, but because of a numbering conflict they started at 398. Bee Line always has the second bus of an order start off as the pilot bus (with the exception of 141).

Wait, what do they conflict with? There are no 400s and 500s at the moment.

399 is officially in service with two other XDE 40ft coaches delivered so far; I got on it via the W4 to Getty Square and it came back as the W25 to 238 St Subway and back to Manor House Square.

I wonder why they went with 399 as the first number. I thought they were supposed to start at 401.

I was looking at some old bus maps through the Brooklyn Public Library's Public Transit Map Collection (which BTW, has quite a few gems), and I glanced over at the September 1995 Brooklyn Bus Map. Interesting to seem some old service patterns there (like the B41 to DUMBO), but what caught my eye was actually on the Queens side of things, particularly the Q11 route.

    Other things to note:

    1. The standard Q23 terminal back then was at 71st Avenue and Metropolitan Avenue, with a rush-hour extension to today's terminal at Union Turnpike.

    2. The Q67 had a rush hour variation to the Hunters Point Ferry. I bet this is what became that first Q69 shuttle.

    3. The 1996 Queens map also looks different from the Brooklyn one. The lines are thinner and each of the private companies is represented by one color each. So all Triboro lines are red, all Green Lines are green, etc. Later maps would be changed to the Brooklyn format, but now each company was represented by a different shape.

I was just trying to answer your question above, especially with the last three words you wrote. That's all.

So you wanna ban a user because other users THINK he's a douchbag or because he's "looking for fame"?

Have you met the guy? Have you even had a private conversation with him about this?

As far as your questions are concerned, see below, which is self-explanatory, especially when it comes to "fame-hungry douchebag."

And if my Moderator status does get revoked because of this, I would not mind personally revoking these handouts on my Flickr page, and these videos which are on my YouTube channel which have helped so many other people on this website. After all, "treat others the way you want to be treated," right? In addition, weren't you folks looking for concrete evidence, regardless of how old the image is?

And if you don't believe me with the quote, then I really wonder why the R32s were pulled out-of-service so early on Sunday, compared to making all of their scheduled trips?

It couldn't have been the wild behavior of dozens of other people, right?

Again, what is his crime? Did he physically assault people? Did he threaten people? What are his actual infractions? Last I recall, having a YT channel does not break the rules of this forum.

I just sent the Private Message. Feel free to send me a reply when you folks get a chance.

Although I modified your quote, as I look at this picture, which comes from Flickr, why is it that there is only one person displaying his red TA pass around his neck, while everyone else in the picture does not have their TA passes displayed? (Hint: He's standing on the right side, in front of the gentlemen wearing the older TA vest.)

And what? Exactly what is he doing wrong? What is that supposed to mean?

You need your moderator status revoked. Seriously.

If we're talking about the same person, as of this typing, his YouTube channel did not get shut down...let me know.

If I "think" it's the same person, I would not mind doing the honors...let me know.

......So, uh, do you guys actually have solid, concrete evidence for the guy's supposed crime against humanity? Or are we gonna start banning people because they're supposedly a "fame-hungry douchebag"?

Remind me again, what exactly is his crime anyway?

Yesterdays event was disgrace to this community and New York City Transit. All I'm going to say is this... There were a few isolated incidents that contribute to this generation of fanners being a hot mess, BUT a lot of the main issues that occurred on board stem from the captain of that ship and his first mate. The general superintendent and one of the C/Rs who poorly planned this trip, knew this exactly would happen, and worst of all took their personal drama on board which blew into chaos. Most may have no clue who I'm talking about but the C/R is veryyy hungry for fame and has a huge YT channel which is more important to him than his career and the safety of his passengers. And his best friend that supt who bails him out of every issue he brings to himself by igniting railfan flame wars which start from his discord server or his inner circle..

Sounds like someone is a little envious......

Not only are the Proterras done, but the Port Authority will be purchasing those units as well. All 5 are currently in JFK Airport.

That's a very interesting development. The PA already has the infrastructure for it, and their buses are getting up there in age. I just wonder what their numbers will be and who will be retired, probably the OG.

  14. Jamaica is going all-electric.

The Jamaica Bus Depot is going electric! 🚌

In 2022, we’re beginning construction to fully rebuild the depot from the ground up, transforming it into our first ever depot designed for a 100% all-electric bus fleet.

With an expected completion date of 2026, the depot will initially support a fleet of up to 60 zero-emissions buses. This is a key part of our plan to make our bus fleet all-electric by 2040.

  15. From the MTA's Flickr account:

MTA Acting Chair & CEO Janno Lieber, Interim NYCT President Craig Cipriano, and Acting SVP of NYCT Buses Frank Annicaro were joined at the Jamaica Depot by State Senator Leroy Comrie, Assembly Member Alicia Hyndman, and City Council Member I. Daneek Miller on Tue., December 14, 2021 to announce that construction on a new all-electric bus facility will commence next year, as part of the MTA’s commitment to a zero-emissions fleet.

    Is that for NFI (possibly)?

This 135 Nova LFS contract is the same 50 MTA Bus diesel bus contract that was floating around for a couple of years; now they finally awarded it and exercised an option for an additional 85 buses (50+85=135).

My best guess is that if 8755-8963 are the ones coming in now, then 8964-9098 (135) would be MTA Bus. I wonder if that's why they had the HEV buses (both NFI+Nova) be a continuous range (9416-9910) instead of something like 9500-9713 for NFI and 9000-9290 for Nova.
