  1. Yup, practice will make you better!! During road ops i over ran a sta, i was inches away from hitting 2 signals and some nights my braking was terrible. But you will learn from it all! You'll see a big difference as the weeks pass, especially when you get to road posting!!

Man I hate the brakes on the R62's on the 3 line. Yesterday I felt like I was fighting with her on my first 4 stops. I asked for a little brake she gives me to much, I ask for a lot and she gives me to little.... By my 5th station I had her well under control. A good running brake test is the key to learning how that train will react to your brake requests when you leave the terminal.

  2. So now what? What did they tell you to do? & for alot of train ops, this won't be the first time. I've had 6 subway surfer incidents, pulled the cord every time. People do stupid shit down here, they have no respect for these trains and the workers.

Already went to MAC#3 today. Just waiting on my urine. Once my urine comes back (hopefully this evening) I can resume road posting tommorrow.

  3. You was the One at 59th?

Wow i had my 12-9 when i was posting as well....

Yes. In all truth i just want to get back on the road and finish my road posting. I already miss being behind the controls of the R62 lol. I'm loving that train.

RCI from 207 was telling me about this today. A rookie T/O had a 12-9 in the A. Sorry it was a member from here.

I'm even far from a rookie. I'm not even done with school car and got my first 12-9.

  4. My first day of road posting today and I recieved a good evaluation from the TSS that rode my train up to Dyre Ave. Also had a superintendent on my train for a few stops as well. Just got to stay focused and continue to do my best. Job isn't that hard once you follow the rules and do what your suppose to do.

  5. depends of WHAT is WRONG with your previous employment history.....if you are thinking that you have changed employment often or you have long/short lapses between jobs - this is usually not a problem...what they are looking though for is if there are jobs you have been fired from and WHY ????...If it is because that business closed or they had to lay you off that that's OK but if you were fired for behavioral or racial reasons ( for example) then that's a BIG CAUSE for declining employment  with MTA or ANY other city/government institution ...

If you were called already and was told you will start school on 25th...then u r good to go...i really do not think they will waist time and resources to hire you BEFORE checking your history....

Just my thinking...i could be wrong though...ONE NEVER KNOWS !!!!!!

However.........regarding your present employment............ once you start class you will have to quit your present job...BUT....even if you are hired and all, you still have to PASS all the tests during school car in order for you to keep your employment with MTA...if you have tardiness issues during school class or behavioral issues or if you do not score 100% on the "brakes" tests and at least 80% on rest then its the end of the line....school car is about 5 months long ( more or less) and if you do not pass at the end ...is your present job going to still be open for you to return to???

ALL above replies contain info  from what i have been reading throughout various threads in this forum...if anyone has any revisions to make please feel free to add!!!!! tks

I don't know what "brakes" test you are talking about never heard of it and I have 5 weeks left in schoolcar. The one test you MUST score 100% is the signal test. You score a 99% and you fail. Every other test the required minimum score is 80% to pass. You must put in the time and effort to study the material on your own as well.

  6. I can't believe how fast school car is flying by. I start road posting on Tuesday bright and early at 0400 in the morning. I feel very confident and ready. I'm grateful 95% reporting locations are in the Bronx. Minutes away from my house :D. Yesterday before we were dismissed from class our TSS's told us to enjoy our last 3 day weekend off. We won't get another one for years to come :P .

Look like my New A Div T/O's may have extended training after school car.

Is it true that after my class all future classes when released from school car will go to the yard for 3-6 months before going to the road? I've been hearing that my class and our sister class will be the last ones going straight to the road after schoolcar.

  7. Thursday? Ok.. cool.. I just came back today from 1 centre street. I had to go with some proof of my military service to claim veterans credit. I asked them how long it would take for them to verify the records and they told me that they had to send out the prints to the FBI, then wait for them to reply.. So I honestly don't know how long it'll take for MTA to receive information from DCAS that my veterans credit has been verified. I called the MTA employment desk today just to verify that my contact information was correct and they quickly sent me to a voicemail where I had to leave a message and am currently waiting for a response.. I'm just curious as to what the status is of my drug test and basically what number are they up too? Cause I'm in the range of 325-335 and all I've gotten accomplished was a drug test and verification of veterans credit so far.. meanwhile another person posted earlier that the last person was appointed was list# 350.. WTF is going on here?

The MTA will verify your veterans credit themselves. This is just the city double checking for themselves had already started schoolcar when I recieved my notice to go down to 1 Centre St for verification last November.

  8. Yes, the jumpers were fun, so was me being the loudmouth.

One thing I can cross off my bucket list: operating a Redbird. Yes, it was only for 10 feet, but it was still operation.

Same here. I was the one that charged it up/standing brake tests/dump it and released the handbrakes so we could start using it.

  9. Hey Everyone......finally got my letter to come in tomorrow.....I wanted to post my info as well as inform everyone thats waiting what they all want to know......this forum has been very helpful and fun to read since pain-staking wait was underway since the test was take over three years ago, lol......here is my info.....

    My list is #486

Received letter past Friday to go to Brooklyn for what reads like a hearing and possible vision test? No mention of drug test but after all i have read i will assume its happening tomorrow, 12/12/12....7:30 am in business casual attire. Was also told that i obviously wont make the december school car but can possibly make one in january as per the nice lady who picked up the phone when i called the number on the letter.

I could not find my social security card but requested a new one at the ss office....theyre everywhere.....its free and you just need to bring ur licence to get one. It will take two weeks but ask them for the form showing you requested it and you will be good for mta when you go. They told me not to worry about a hs diploma so i wont bring it....(i hope she was right as i couldnt find mine).

I hope all my info helps everyone. It always suprised me how everyone took steps in the process and never identified what list # they were.....probably the most important info for everyone else on here.....

I have a few questions for everyone if i may .....

Im assuming if you wear glasses that wont go against you? correct?

If i paid a ticket for smoking a cigarette on a subway about 25-27 years ago do i have to check yes on question #2 ?

if i do check yes....what do i need to do if i dont remember the details?

does anyone know right now what is the highest list # that made it to the last school car scheduled which is next week?

is it 40 pwer school car class? if so and im guessing apporximately 250-275 was the last # called for this schoolcar......whats the best guess on when my list #486 will get in? Just trying to schedule my life that will be turned upside down now, lol.

And finally.......what can i expect as far as a schedule for schoolcar? evenings? weekends? rotating times?

Anything anyone can provide to help with my questions would be greatly appreciated !!!

I will certainly provide step by step details on everything i will go through going forward....good luck to all !!!

I wear glasses...... A far as your questions regarding your history/background read the 21 page instruction booklet that comes along with your 21 page background booklet you have to fill out. Do exactly what it says and you can't go wrong.

Once you get into schoolcar which I am currently in now you will be giving a schedule for the entire course so you know where you will need to be and the time. You may have to report on weekends too (My class was told to report too schoolcar on a Sunday to make up for Thanksgiving day that we were off).

Once you start road posting later on in the course you will have to work ALL shifts. So for about 3 weeks you will work a different tour each week.

  10. No, i read in one of the TWU contracts that the first week is minimum wage. These guys say its 2 weeks. Either way, its true

SMH...where in the hell did you read that... sucks for you if you recieve minimum wage in your first paycheck. You will need to call wage adjustment at Livingston St... You guys spread the most ridiculous rumors on here

  11. Because if you owe thousands of dollars somewhere, they want to know about it. People with poor credit also tend to be less trustworthy. I haven't ever heard of someone being denied a job here due to credit tho...

Well my credit is not so good. I fell behind on the bills after 3yrs ago after a bad break up with my ex. I did keep paying them as best as I could. None went into collection or default judgment. when looking at your credit most employers look at your being responsible. If the see a trend of no payments, irresponsible spending, judgements or defaults then it will hurt you.

  12. No I don't believe so..they should b contacting every1 on the list within there needs..from wat I understand and ppl who know for sure plz correct me.the 1 & 3 would be used in the promo so they would promote at least 1 person if 3 weren't really considered because of various scenarios I.e poor attendance record..but I remember reading here b4 of someone complaining abt the 1 & 3 being abused for the B/O exam forgot if it was a O/C or Promo

Not necessarily. From what was mentioned when I went through orienation the 1 in 3 rule does apply to open competitive exams. They will also go into detail about that during your first week when they talk about civil service exams.

  13. I'm definetly going to look into that.. do you know if they're open today so I can call them?

They are closed today. I was browsing back through the posts. They just may not have gottten to you exact number yet. Hell they could probably 3 list numbers away from you. When the letters go out they go out in groups. I'd say give it maybe another 2 weeks or so.

  14. Awesome man glad u had a good day, youll have to let us know what your thoughts are on the R62 compared to the R142

How much practice did you get b4 today at on the R142?? How is it to judge the train and when to brake?? sounds like you got a good grasp on it hitting the mark thats saweetttttt

did u blast into stations and hit that full service brake =P

Well before today the only practice I had was about 5 mins doing safety stops last week on a R142A in mosholu yard. I really can't explain when to brake. It's more like feeling it. You will learn how your train reacts to your commands.

You don't always have to come too a complete stop in a full service brake. Once your getting up to the marker slowly release to a Min Brake and you won't even feel that jerk forward when it stops (it will also avoid the guy/gal thats standing up reading a newspaper or holding a cup of coffee from falling over once you come to a complete stop lol)). That will take pratice over time.

  15. How was the R142 to operate?? Heard the brakes are good on them

Well the consist we had today and the fact it was also raining I feel that the brakes on these are very good. Better than what I expected. You can't get to over confident though. You still have to respect them. Also we were running a light train so carrying passengers will be a totally different exprience as the train will be heavier.

  16. Today was the best day I've had in schoolcar so far. I got to operate a R142 from E180st to Jackson Ave on the 2/5 line. :):):):):)

I made all my station stops at the 10 car marker perfectly and cleared all the GT timers smoothly on the southbound track approaching Simpson St B-).

My class took turns making about 6 station stops each all the way to Bowling Green and back. I finished off by operating from Freeman back into Unionport Yard.

Man the TSS I had today knows these trains. He made me come into one station at max power then told me exactly when to take a min brake, coast then a fullservice brake then a slight release. I swore I was going to overrun it but I followed his instructions exactly and I made the smoothest and most perfect stop right at the 10 car marker.

It was freaking funny how customers would have that look like thank god the train is here and walk up to the doors when we stopped at each station without seeing the exterior side signs displaying "No Passengers" then realizing were not in service. Priceless :D:lol::lol::lol::lol:

After today I am understanding the signals even better.

  17. I feel like crying.. this isn't fair.. I'm list # 325-335, I hear all around here that the MTA has reached past my list number on the list and yet I haven't heard anything either by mail or phone. Then I call the MTA directly and get told that they are only up to list number 8. My friend was list number 86 and he started back in October. Things just don't make sense and it isn't fair..

Just like Gherigfan1 said. Did you ever recieve a second notice stating that you meet the education/experience requirments?? DCAS sent those out around November 2011. If you didn't sorry but your out of luck for this job. You had to have 5 yrs of documentable fulltime experience. You were also able to subsitute up to 4yrs of college if I remember.

Also make sure DCAS has your correct address as that will be the info the MTA will have and will send the letter out too.
