  1. I see...

^^^So what is that this poster is talking about?^^^

I wrote that. It is an information release form. It also states on it that for military veterans it will also include the release of our military medical records. I don't know why you guys are making a big deal anyway. Is thier something in your medical records that can disqualify you????

  2. Thanks RTOMan and Snowblock. Some of this guys still quite don't understand the job title they are applying for will require the city to have a COMPLETE history (both medical and background) on them. They still don't realize that this isn't a private sector job they are applying too. I'm pretty sure if you have had any type of surgery in the past you can bet they will be requesting those records...

  3. No it really isn't. Depends on what type of job you are applying for and agency. Certain jobs have medical requirements that you must meet. That's why they have you sign a release form. The drug testing is also part of your medical records. So if you ever failed a drug test they will now. That's why they asked if you ever took or failed a DOT drug test. They can request those documents.

  4. So what happens if they find out somehow later on. I will be out of a job right? I'm not going to volunteer any information but if they ask i'm not going to lie.

The background check also includes the release of past medical records. When you get your 21 page booklet read the release form you will have to sign..

  5. OK, mediccjh's recap from yesterday.

Got there at 7:30. I was the 6th person in line. They started promptly at 7:30. Two different lines; everyone was given a small packet to fill out for the whiz quiz.

Stood and stared at the wall for a few minutes; none of the bodegas I passed in the morning had any word find books. Damn them!

Called my ticket; turned in the packet, filled out the yellow paper, and proceeded for the whiz quiz.

NOTE WHEN GOING FOR THE WHIZ QUIZ: Stamp your paper, and put it in the mail slot. I didn't at first, and I got the evil eye from one of the lab techs; another came, was cool, and showed me the errors of my ways.

Went to take the whiz quiz, and......nothing. You are allowed 40 oz of water that they supply you within 3 hours of your first attempt. You must make at least 45 mL of urine. Took a bottle of water, stared at the wall for 90 minutes while telling everyone how to clock in, and then my kidneys and bladder finally decided to cooperate after the second bottle.

Did the whiz quiz, went back into the main waiting area. Got the 21-page packet of homework, along with the 10-page packet on how to do the 21-page packet of homework. If you need extra forms, they're on the wall near the hall leading to the bathroom. I was out of there by 10:00.

In regards to your work history: Go to your local SS office, and they will print out your complete history for $35. Money well worth it, since they want ALL employment since high school.

Now I hurry up and wait for a phone call or snail mail.

I just got home. Got there this morning at about 0630 and was out by 0845. I managed to be the first in line when I got upstairs. Now to get started on this 21 page booklet...

Is it me or does the 5th floor remind you of the DMV lol. I'm just sitting thier looking at the board waiting till they call my number....

  6. I can't imagine they are over critical of getting exact hire and release dates 100% are they? How far back do they go? Do they want salary and job description as well? Would it make sense for me to get a transcript from SS of my entire work history?

Based on the pre interview booklet that they send with the letter they go back 10yrs. I of course don't remember exact hire dates so I just list the month/year. Yes they do need salary and job description.

  7. If I posted this before please forgive me - but O need to have my mind cleared. There are 3 issues worrying me right now:

1 In early 1998 when I was 19 I smoked a cigarette on the platform at 74 St - I didn't know it was illegal and was given a $50 by a Transit police officer - which I paid off almost immediately! To date - my only "run-in" with the law

    2. I cannot remember every single job I had between 2002 & early 2005 (mainly temp jobs)

    3. The only job I was "fired" from was a telemarketing job in 2004 sine my "sales per hour rate" was too low. In other words, I did a bad job of convincing Verizon customers to upgrade service.

Those are the only 3 issues worrying me - I pray to God neither what I mentioned above nor anything else keeps me from being hired by the TA.

I don't see why any of these would be an issue. Your $50 ticket sound more like a violation than a misdeamor which sound not be all that serious. Just make sure you list all 3 of these in your background booklet.

  8. Since when do you need to provide your driving record when the job does not require a driver's license?

They only want it if you had an out of state license within the past 3 years . They want you to bring a drivers abstract from that state.

  9. Gherigfan what's ur list# and how does DCAS have this info I thought the MTA handles all this now appreciate any info

I think it's because this exam was prior to the MTA taking over thier own exams so the city would still be responsible for it. Anything MTA exams after November 2011 DCAS no longer deals with.

  10. I just called the DCAS automated line this morning. I'm in the mid 140's on Train Operator Exam 8098 list. I've been placed on an outstanding certification. My letter and anyone below me should be getting letters in the next few days to report to Livingston St to start the hiring process. Good luck to everyone. It's been a long wait.

  11. Having no life will continue while you're extra extra, no set RDOs or tour. :)

That's pretty much how my current job is now and has been for the past 3 yrs. I never know what my days off are until my boss puts out the itineraries every Wednesday. I'm also on call 24/7 as an ops manager.

  12. The promotional list for Train Operator has been exhausted. We are hiring 40 T/Os on 10/22; 40 T/Os on 11/12 and 40 T/Os on 12/3. they have to be coming from somewhere. Therefore, the open-competitive list has not been terminated. The people at the top of the list should be getting called for medicals any day now. Along with this , we are also hiring 10 C/Rs on 9/24; 20 C/Rs on 10/8; 20 C/Rs on 11/12; 20 C/Rs on 12/3; 12 ATDs on 10/1 and 10 TSSs on 10/1. Divisions will be announced for all hourly positions on the Tuesday AFTER hiring. This will be the only time I will put this out, so if you need to know, copy this post to somewhere you can find it. You may now all go back to your rumor-mongering.

RIGHT out of the Schoolcar Horses Mouth!

Yep this is sure true. I just saw on the NY Chief they just certified sections on the TSS' and ATD's list for hiring. Pretty soon it'll show what list numbers are certified for T/O postitions.

  13. Ok that makes a little sense. I didn't know that. Maybe that's why DCAS no longer has the info for the exam. The list of names were handed over to the MTA and since DCAS no longer handles MTA exams they purge their system of 8098. That's may be why the lady told me to contact the MTA for info regarding 8098 this morning.

Wow, you all need to chill out.

Back in 2011, the MTA terminated their arrangement with DCAS to handle hiring. The DCAS would handle any open lists, but from then on the MTA would handle all hiring themselves. Obviously what is happening is the DCAS is handing over 8098 to the MTA, and the MTA will begin calling you themselves off of this list. No way are they just gonna throw out an exam that something like 100,000 people paid $80 to take!

That's what I eventually figured later this evening.

  14. Just talked to someone at NY 511 and the list is NOT terminated she said they will be calling off the exam shortly that's all she said..so ppl on the list are good just a fyi

I called during my lunch break. I was told the same by the lady I spoke too. They have the names and the list isn't terminated. The letters should be mailed out shortly. I just hope she is correct.

  15.

The list was published in 2010 (when we got our score and list #), but it wasn't established until a few days ago. Once a list is established thats when they are supposedly ready to start calling from it

  16. Wow, I called up as well and realised it says it indeed has been established on 9/13/2012. I really thought this would have been established in the spring time from info that I was given, but better late than never right? Hopefully the first few hundred of us should be getting a nice surprise of a letter in the mail within the next few months..

This post was what made me call DCAS this morning and suspect a computer glitch in the automated line. The list was established June 23, 2010 not on September 13, 2012. I still have my notice of results with my list number and the one I received last November saying I qualified based on my work experience/education.

  17. I just called DCAS and the recording now says. This list is terminated and can no longer be used to fill positions. I really hope this is a computer glitch. It hasn't even been 4 years since we took the exam. Anyone else confirm this recording.

I too called this morning and heard the same thing "8098 list has been terminated and can no longer be used to fill positions". I spoke to a lady and she told me to call 511 since DCAS no longer administers exams for the MTA. I told her that exam was administered by DCAS back in 2009. She said they no longer have information on it that I would have to call that number and select MTA on the menu. During my lunch break I'll give that number a call and see what is going on.

This can't be right??? They havn't even started calling from 8098 and it's terminated?? My notice of results cardthat I received my list number on is dated June 23, 2010. That is when the list was established. It's only been little over 2yrs.

  18. I am on the list for train operator. I have also been called for station cleaner(I refused it) station agent(haven't decided yet). If I don"t accept the station agent job, will that cause me to be not called for Train Operator?

No it won't. Those are separate lists/different jobs. If you don't take station cleaner/station agent you'll just be skipped over on that list if you don't respond to the letter. Only if you get called for Train Operator and you get to the background check you'll just have to put down what civil service exams you took and if you were hired or not (ex: in your case it would probably be you turn down the station agent job and waited for the train operator position or they did not reach your list number yet).
