  1. Hey elantra, so how did they split ur class up? Did u get the division you wanted?

Yes 20 to the A and 20 to the B.

I did not have to worry about not getting the A division. Most of the class lived in Brooklyn/Queens so the B division got filled up fast so I knew I was going to get the A division whether I got to pick or not so I was happy.

  2. I have no idea what # they're up to but I want to be safe and not miss out on the oppurtunity. I don't anticipate them being up to the 500s by December but I'm gonna call tomorrow and ask what should I do or if they are anywhere near my #. If I find out what # they're up to I will let you know.

Don't be so sure. In my school car class out of the 40 of us that started on Monday the highest list number is in the 190's. They are moving through the list pretty fast.

  3. Hey mediccjh I think I was sitting in the row across from you today. Were you the one that mentioned about being the paramedic? I really had a good laugh when they annouced that the entire conductor class was being sent to the B division. Some of those faces were priceless. I was so happy when nearly all the train operators said the were from Brooklyn/Queens. I knew then I was gonna get what I wanted.

    B-) The A division :D

Mediccjh is also right about the TSS's we had today. They both were very knowledgeable and professional. Everything that RTOman and Pelham Bay Dave have said on this forums about the job are 100% truth. This title is no joke. Thier is no room for error. You must know your job 100%.

  4. But they still let you know that day if you're hired, right? Assuming everything is good, of course

Yes. If your medical checks out the doctor will give you a note stating "your are found medically qualified for the position" to take back over to the other side. They then sit you down go over your 21 page booklet and swear you in.

  5. No letter yet :-( I even put my Mailman on alert to look out for the letter. LOL!! I know many others said have patience, but I'm sooooo ready to start this next chapter in life. I know it'll be difficult, but any and everyone of us hopefuls have to realize we've got to give this 150% if we get the opportunity. Good luck to all!!!

Wait until you get the letter your excitement will build even more lol. The past 3yrs have been a very rough point in my life. The day I was sworn in it literally felt like a new chapter begining in my life which I am grateful for.

My excitment is still there as I'm hoping next Tuesday I get placed in the A Division but I'll still be happy with the B Division :)

  6. How does it work if you do not accept the position and you request to be placed back on the list? Do you fall to the bottom of the overall list or are you reinstated at your current list number? My list number is in the low 200's and if I am called in the next few weeks, I may opt to decline as I have a big assignment at current job that I feel morally obligated to complete before resigning, but would love to start class in January if that is an option? (assuming that I pass medical that is. I have high blood pressure, though it is under control by medication and isnt terribly high without medication. Does anyone know the magic number that is "acceptable" as it relates to the blood pressure?)

They will keep on moving up the list. You don't fall to the bottom. It's like you list number goes inactive until you call to request your name to be placed back on the list when you are ready. When you do then they will call you to come back in for processing.

  7. Those who failed to show up will have to put thier names back on the list in order to be called in Dec. Storm or No storm Future and current employees must show up unless told not too. Once again welcome to transit to all the new Hires.

Yep that's that's why I still showed up Wednesday morning and was hired that afternoon. If they weren't open I would have gone right back Thursday morning. I had another poster say that I should have waited until they called me to reschedule. Still swore they were closed but I was sitting in 180 waiting for my medical lol

  8. congrats elatra. ifyou read my post it said to wait till you can get word directly from the mta.

Thanks. Like me everyone that showed up yesterday took a chance that they would be open and they were. Had I decided to sit back and wait until they returned my voicemail message I most likely would not have gotten a call back until late December to reschedule. I certainly did not want to miss this opportunity and am greatful to god I made it this far. Once I start school car I won't be on here much. From what I can tell already I'll be home many nights reviewing all the info I recieved from my instructor as thier is so much to learn.

  9.

Got my call call today...report for medical/processing on 11/5

Once you complete everything more than likely you'll be placed in the Nov 12th class too. Good luck.

I just put in my resignation today with my current employer and I was shocked. He's happy for me but sad to see me go. I told him though I will work up until the 11th and I will keep in touch. The office staff is treating me out to dinner next week as a parting gift :)

  10. Training classes and etc.. arnt going to be open for the rest of the week. Resources are needed to repair the system and get it back up and runnning. When you make contact with the MTA they will tell you all of the details on when to come back.

Sucks for whoever listened to your post and didn't show up today. More than likely they may have to wait weeks for the phonecall to be rescheduled for medicals based on what the staff said today. It was pretty much business as usual at 180 Livingston today.

To all others unless it was an event like Hurricance Sandy on Monday/Tuesday or another circumstance that would shut down the city show up at the time and date you are scheduled for if not go in on the day that they reopen.

  11. GL elantra06. Do you know of the other list #'s that were sworn in today?

List #'s I don't know . The interviwer told me that it was good I still showed up. It could have been weeks before I would have been rescheduled or gotten a call too. Some that were scheduled today also didn't show up. I overheard them at the desk talking about making calls tommorrow to schedule the next group for medicals/final processing.

Those who were scheduled Monday/Tuesday should have came in this morning. I think they would have processed you guy/gals. About maybe 8 total showed up today for medical/final processing for the T/O position.

Today was a long day. I didn't get out until 1600. I did like the fact they had a TV to watch while waiting for the medical. It help past the time.

  12.

Yeah right, ask people who dont work for the MTA here on the forums instead ofgetting word from officials. Not many people here are going to have any info when it comes to operations. Its like the blind leading the blind. Alot of the NYC area still doesnt have power.

By the way Warduke I still showed up to 180 Livingston this morning. I'm currently going through medical/final processing. I guess you were wrong. Thank god I didn't listen to your advice....

It was a lot of people here this morning when I arrived. The lady said once buses were running everyone at the MTA had to report to work.

I like the way he responded to you like you were an a**hole for asking. . . . Elantra, I'm curious..... How are you holding a job and going through training?

I'm not hired yet. I'm going through Medical/final processing today.

  13. As far as us guys that are in school car goes, we HAVE to report to training tomorrow at 7AM sharp at PS248. I Received the call today. I'm glad cuz I couldn't spend another day couped up in my house. 2 days is enough. So if we have to report for training tomorrow it's safe to say most MTA operations will convene tomorrow besides train operations where there is flooding. I would call 180 Livingston first thing in the morning tomorrow to see if they will be open or you can play it safe and just show up extra early so if they aren't doing any processing you will still have time to report to ur regular job.

This is what I was trying to say but Warduke thinks he's right. Administrative work needs to get done, medical appoiments for employees, training will continue and all operations will resume. Train Operators will still have to report to work as equipment will need to be moved for inspections/repairs and back into yards, track workers will be walking the rails doing inspections, signals department has a whole shitload of work ahead of them, construction work to remove the plywood, electricians doing inspections. The only thing that is on hold is revenue operations on the subway but ball doesn't stop rolling everything else has to continue functioning if they expect to be back up in four days.

Each department in the MTA has thier own job to do and just because the tunnels are flooded and there is no revenue service doesn't mean oh "let's stop doing medicals/drug tests, training, filing inspection reports, hiring equipment maintaniers, ordering parts, etc"....

As far as school car Warduke how is a TSS going to help repair the system lol and why should they stop training. There main responsibilty is training and monitering T/O's not pumping water and inspecting tracks or signals....

As for me I will still show up to 180 in the morning at 0730 as scheduled. If they are not doing processsing I'll just head straight to work and enjoy a nice quiet breakfast in my office until everyone comes in at 0900 and wait for the call to come back at a later time.

  14. A little common sense goes a long way. Of course they arnt going to be open. The whole subway system is a disaster area and underwater.

Yes as far as operations. Administrative duties I would think would resume tommorrow...and the subway isn't the only way to get around the city..

  15. I left a voicemail for the lady that called me for Medical/Final processing. My appointment is tommorrow morning. Do any of you guys now if 180 Livingston will be open for sure on Wednesday morning? I will have to drive since the subways aren't looking to be up and running anytime soon.

  16. let me ask you guys, what day did you go in for preemployment? i went in on October 3 (asking because I think this has more to do with when they call you back. they do it in say, groups of people) and i am in the mid 150's... still waiting for my phone call, but hearing this elevated my level of excitement and at the same time elevated my level of anxiety.

congrats by the way and good luck elantra06

I did my premployment Oct 2nd. At the pace they are moving you guys in the 150's should be getting calls next week.

  17. i want to thank everyone on here that came to this forum with useful information and those who continue to exchange information relevant to the hiring process. It keeps us updated and informed so we know what to expect. If i didn't know better I would be freaking out since i went to preemployment and still haven't received a call back yet. I only recently joined this forum, but i was stalking it for quite a while checking for information. so thanks.

can someone who recently got hired for the 10/22 class describe the physical exam in detail. what is done, what is asked, as much details would be appreciated

Ummm.. I don't think you'll get info in "detail" . It's pretty much sit at a computer, fill in info, see the doc, get a physical, bloodwork, blood pressure, vision, hearing. I saw all this when I went for the pre-interview ealier this month. Others were there for medicals for other postions so I kind of overheard the lady giving them instructions while I was waiting for my number to be called.. So I kind of know what to expect. Noting to freak out about. I wouldn't even recommend posting all that info on a "public forum" anyway. That's probably why you'll never get a detailed answer.

    Loose lips sink ships.....

  18. Any1 else in for the 11/12 class?? Also any news on more ppl with higher #s goin to Livingston for the whiz quiz?? Congrats to ppl getting good news

140's here still waiting for the phonecall..hoping for the 11/12 class...

  19. ok so i finally looked over this 21 page application and i have 2 questions. 1. for the education part, do they have 4 sections because they want you to put elementary and middle school, or is that just extra for people who transferred in high school/college? 2. when they ask if you ever worked for a city agency, does the Summer Youth Employment Program count as a city agency?

Come on man are you serious. Did you even look at the other booklet that came with it?? It is an addtional 21 pages of instructions for each and every question. All these questions you're asking the answer is in it. That's why it is written on the front of it to read first before completing the 21 page background history booklet....

  20. Congrats medi, patience is a virtue. Speaking of this sworn in thing everyone is saying... I am in the current class but was never "sworn in". Did u raise ur right hand an literally get sworn in because I don't remember doing that.

That's funny because I thought they would since it is civil service postion like Police/Firefighter/EMT.
