You forgot 2931-2999 (although 2969 is used for The Honeymooners show), 8568-8580, 8583-8599 are now used for the very first time.

8705-8749 was last used on the TDH-5303A of the 1967 order.

3475-3499 was last used on the 1984 RTS order as well as 3784-3799.

4279-4299 have not been use on the NYCTA roster but used on the MTABC roster for a very short time.

Thats all I can think of.......... for now

What about Orion V CNGs 8568-8582?

Yesterday I spotted 217 freshly repainted working the Q38 with a sign inside the bus towards the back reading

    "217

    8-year engine change"

Along with NYCT stickers even though it's at MTA Bus.

I was once told all the C40s with NYCT stickers were capped at a lower speed despite some of those operating out of Bus co.

  2. Those C40s may not last as long as we thought. Apparently New Flyer stopped making parts for that model.

as the DD50 era is over.

The only remaining buses in NYC that have Series 50 engines are a few D40s running at LGA Airport for their shuttle bus routes under Port Authority. 714, 715 and 716 specifically. They sound quite similar to our older and now retired C40s, same axles and engines.

  3. Not sure if this was mentioned or not, but the new-ish bus stops with the countdown clocks that are in Staten Island and parts of Manhattan are now hitting Woodhaven Blvd. There's a stop below Rockaway Blvd that has it.

That stop is specifically at Sutter Avenue / Cross Bay Blvd going North. Took a picture of it the other day but it appears my phone did not save the image.

  4. There's an issue I see with the R179's being on the (A) : How will the cars hold up to the salt water in Jamaica Bay, which will cause the cars to rust faster? There will also be computer components on the cars which will also regularly be near salt water. (I believe this is the reason why the R44's were retired prematurely as the salt water corroded the frames of the R44's faster than other fleets causing structural integrity problems).

  5. Those are some pretty cool signs there. The timing is a bit off but you're getting the hang of it ;) . (Microsoft GIF animator works best for that as you can adjust the timing on each frame individually).

As of now I'm not making any signs. I can pull out my computer and make some but it runs so slow it would take longer to boot up the computer than to actually complete the signs.

Hopefully some day I can find time to get back into making them on a regular basis as I loved doing it. I miss being creative. One of these days I'll see if I can dig into my folder on my old computer and play around with any old artwork I saved.

  6. I would think the purpose of public transportation is to provide transportation to students as well as other customers trying to get from point A to B. Kids don't have a choice of whether they would like to go to school or not, therefore they should be exempt from paying the fare. If the MTA were to suddenly revoke free transportation to public school students, it would spark outrage amongst parents and I'm sure it would have a very negative outcome. Not every family can afford paying $5.50 almost every day just to get their child to school - even more if the family includes several children. $5.50 x 180 = $990 per child every school year - money that some families don't have in today's economy.

  7. the threshole plates are painted to see if they hit the platform edges, has nothing to do with the yards, trust me i used to think the samething with the R32,38's and R44's back in 2009.

Then how come the R46 at Pitkin have Green paint and R46 at Jamaica Red?

  8. a computer system? They barely have updated signals and failing LEDs on subway cars and let alone advanced new technology so I highly doubt MTA has some computer based system to identify where subway cars are stored. That'll take more time than visual. Threshold paint would be more feasible kind of like the R46s from pitkin verses the R46s from Jamaica. Pitkin has green and Jamaica has Red

I'm sure there is some sort of "computer system" that they used to keep track of them. As a matter of fact, I think that's what those stickers with the barcode are for seen at the ends of the cars by the car number (in the interior). Occasionally I've seen workers scan those stickers at terminals. I'm not exactly sure what they're used for but I'm sure it's for some sort of tracking system.

(If you're not sure about what I'm referring to, the next time you're on a subway car look by the car number plate / sticker and there should be another white sticker near it that says something like "[Car number] A-Car ATI").

  9. Huh, weird. It's displaying the (F) under the (G) for some reason.

I may as well point it out since no one is getting it. The sign reads " Southbound (G) trains are running express from Bergen Street to Church Avenue". That's physically impossible as the (G) can't switch to the express track before Bergen Street. This is unless the (G) decides to skip Carroll Street and Smith-9 Street on the local track, but that wouldn't make any sense as the problem seems to be on the local track in the first place.
