Thought I would share some NJCL shots I took from Thursday and Saturday.

Thursday in South Amboy:

2312 Last Hoboken train had a Cat on the end:

An electric set to NYP shot from the Church Running track grade crossing:

The reason I was in South Amboy was for this fella:

Hung around some more and got 4406 on a westbound:

http://kaback9.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1693672

After that flew down the parkway to catch the freight over the Navesink River:

Will pick up on Saturday where I was shooting the Pine Creek Railroad:

http://kaback9.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1695693

http://kaback9.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1695694

I decided to head over to Manasquan after on the CL:

Comet III set:

http://kaback9.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1695721

From there I headed over to Elberon:

http://kaback9.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1695723

Where I caught 4142 in much better light it was on the train in the first shot from Manasquan:

http://kaback9.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1695725

And finally a stop by Long Branch turned out to be a good decision as I caught 4611 sitting on the yard track facing Bath Ave:

Enjoy!

Very cool stuff (:)(K)!

I talked to those guys saturday 25th that run that 'road there. Apparently they had an alco NG yard switcher too, but had to sell it. I'm glad i'm not the only one who knows about Allaire!:cool: They said they were going to try and find a new alco NG switcher, since the current fleet they have are purely industrial engines and not much in terms of pax equipment good looks. :( I am going back before the summer is out to take a ride there & 2 other historic 'roads including probably the NH&IRR.

I love those Comet IIIs and wished that they were still on the Midtown Direct trains. Hopefully they will spend their last days on the M&E if they were slated to be replaced by the MLVs. Someone even stated on wiki that a portion of the ALP-44s would be replaced by an option of 9 additional ALP-46As.

Thanks fellas!

Andy I think the Pine Creek Railroad is known by every kid who likes trains in Monmouth County since they are about 3 or they know there is a train at Allaire State Park. Amazingly 40 years ago that thing used to run in my hometown but moved. They do have alot of neat stuff and a fellow forum member here does volunteer for them though he was not there that day.

Nick, you should not have a problem finding a solid III set there is always one it seems.

Don't believe everything you hear on wiki R44 now NJT is not sure what they want to do with the 44's. Will see I'm still hoping for a rebuild though there have been rumblings Amtrak may take a few( though that remains just a silly rumor for now).

Like that dirty rumor that the Comet IIIs are going to Canada or the ALP-44s will be sold to Amtrak and MARC. Dirty ball rumors got me . I wish we get a definite answer on the fate of the raccoons.

Even if Amtrak takes them, they can still go up to 125 mph! But one thing I don't understand is that the AEM7s (non-rebuilds) can haul up to 10 Amfleets or Amfleet IIs with Viewliners/Diner/Baggage car while the ALP-44s can only haul 8-9 Comets or 5 MLVs.

I don't listen to half the things I hear. If its from one of the upper level guys then I may take notice.

I honestly don't think you have to worry about Amtrak getting the 44's after all they just put an RFP out for new electrics to replace the aging AEM7 DC units.

There are some aem-7's that can only go 110 and they haul the big fat long trains, which is why some are doubled up on them from time to time, being 2 geared for 125 with lower starting traction than the 110 geared locos. The alp-44 is geared for 100 mph and the torque band for them is not as high, also i believe they may weigh a bit less, so have less tractive effort.

Now, the 46's on the other hand are more HP, heavier, massive starting traction and could easily be re-geared for 125. They hauled the clocker trains before they were absorbed by (NJT) and cut back to trenton. I believe those were 10-12 amfleets.

The only thing stopping 44's from hauling longer mlv consists is the space needed for a higher powered HEP unit, not just space for the electronics, but for cooling as well.

Internally the layout is much different, the 44's are meant for commuter service, the 7's are meant for long distance trains.

The 44's can haul 6 ML's just fine and really that would be about an 8-9 car Comet train.

All the AEM7's can do 125, they double head after a unit has come out of the shop. I have seen DC units pull LD trains with out a problem and been on one within the past year.

The 46's are supposedly going to be regeard to 125 when the ML's get approval and the 46a's arrive/

I want the 46's to be regeared to 125 so bad. More TPH.
