Dan Posted December 30, 2009 Share #1 Posted December 30, 2009 Yesterday, I headed over to the Bushwick branch to take some shots and see what was over there. I got some shots of the rolling stock over there but nothing moving. It was also about 10 degrees, so I only stayed for a few minutes. ]

Amtrak7 Posted December 31, 2009 Share #5 Posted December 31, 2009 Nice shots! As of 11/15/2009, crossing flashers were under construction on two major road/rail grade crossings on the Bushwick Branch. I have no idea whether they will move to the smaller crossings on the branch. If anyone does go there for photography, please get some status photos at as many crossings as possible. Dan Posted December 31, 2009 Author Share #6 Posted December 31, 2009 I can keep you guys posted on that. I am going to go back there for couple more shots soon, and take a look at the rest of the branch. I could only deal with the bitter cold for a matter of minutes when I shot these. Pu3rToRoCk8947 Posted January 6, 2010 Share #12 Posted January 6, 2010 Beautiful shots  Was this particular branch freight all the time or was it a passenger branch like the Bay Ridge Branch at one time?
Dan Posted January 7, 2010 Author Share #13 Posted January 7, 2010 Thanks! I believe it had passenger service until somewhere in the neighborhood of May 13, 1924
metsfan Posted January 7, 2010 Share #14 Posted January 7, 2010 It is only used for light freight & trash/scrap trains, but it was one of the earliest casualties due to the attention of the LIRR under PRR control being too spread out. http://www.forgotten-ny.com/SUBWAYS/LIRR%20/lirr.html - A

Joe Posted January 8, 2010 Share #17 Posted January 8, 2010 The Bay Ridge branch out around East New York is very cool too. Dan- Great shots. You ever been in the ENY tunnel (the one that runs from Atlantic & Van Sinderen to somewhere north)? Not that I would ever go in there without a flamethrower and .357... Not that I would ever go in there without a flamethrower and .357... Been there done that. A few years ago they gave a tour of the tunnel so don't anyone on here bother me with questions like "how did you get in there?"
Joe Posted January 8, 2010 Share #19 Posted January 8, 2010 Heh, I wish I was around for that tour. I missed a lot of good fantrips.

Dan Posted January 8, 2010 Author Share #21 Posted January 8, 2010 I was just reading a LIRR history book in Barnes and Noble and they had some shots from a LIRR fan trip down the Bay Ridge Line. Looked kick ass.
INDman Posted January 8, 2010 Share #22 Posted January 8, 2010 They used to do things like that all the time. Now they really don't do much. Hell the ERA used to do fan trips several times a year in the 70's but now the tries to bend them over when they want to charter a train.
Joe Posted January 8, 2010 Share #23 Posted January 8, 2010 ERA ... bend them over when they want to charter a train. You really think some of them would object to that?
Dan Posted January 8, 2010 Author Share #24 Posted January 8, 2010 Yeah, the pic was from the late 90's I want to say. They had GP38's hauling it!
INDman Posted January 8, 2010 Share #25 Posted January 8, 2010 You really think some of them would object to that? Some of them would love it, although there are a few ok guys there... a very select few. Yeah, the pic was from the late 90's I want to say. They had GP38's hauling it! I know they have done 1 or 2, I think they ran them through NY&A.
