Pals: Teen feared dad charged in her slay; he's hospitalized after suicide try

Bronx teenager Anna Matias lived in fear of her father.

 

The 14-year-old told friends he would hurt her if she was late getting home. She told them he routinely screamed at her and beat her. But they never thought he would kill her.

 

"I am shocked," Selina Ruiz, 15, said. "I never saw any marks or bruises. If I had, I would have said something."

 

Miguel Matias, 36, was scheduled to be arraigned Sunday night but ended up hospitalized after he tried to kill himself in lockup, law enforcement sources said.
