I gotta get over to Staten Island Tech. HS in a couple of days to take care of some stuff, but the thing is I've never been there. I know that the Ferry and SIR is a way, but I was thinking bout some other possibilities. I'm not too familiar with S or X buses, so does anyone have a good route to get there from Chambers St?

If money is no object, you can walk over to Broadway/Park Place and take the X1 to Hylan Blvd/Lindbergh Avenue (during PM rush hours, you also have the option of the X3 or X4 express buses).

You dip your MetroCard and it will deduct $5.50 for the fare.

If you want to save money, you have other options:

Option 1: Take the (R) train from City Hall to Bay Ridge-86th Street and transfer to the S79 to Hylan Blvd/Lindbergh Avenue.

Option 2: Walk, take the M5 bus, or the (R) train to Whitehall Street-South Ferry. From there take the ferry to Staten Island and take the Staten Island Railway to New Dorp.

You also have the option of taking the S78 from the ferry terminal (from Bus Ramp A, though there is reconstrution going on, so you will have to go to "Bus Station North" and take the bus from there. I must warn you that the S78 is much slower than the (SIR).

Good luck.

Though riding and transferring from the (J), towards the (R), and to the bus is slow and and time consuming. My suggestion is to go the Chambers Street station and to walk in the passageway and transfer to the (4) and (5) train to Bowling Green. Then get off and board the ferry it's free. Even though it might be long it is longer to take a big U turn. Once you get off the ferry just take the SIR to where you are going. Then walk or transfer to a bus to get to the final stop. To get back home just take the reverse. If you live in Brooklyn it's better to take the bus across the Narrows Bridge.
