Harry Posted September 28, 2010 Share #1 Posted September 28, 2010 Get ready to put your greenbacks away - the Henry Hudson Bridge is going cash-free, and other MTA bridges and tunnels are soon to follow. In January, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority will remove the gates in the E-ZPass lanes at the Bronx-to-Manhattan crossings. That doesn't mean it's free, though. A system of cameras and sensors still will charge drivers with E-ZPass. Anyone else who tries to zoom through the lanes without the pass will get a bill for the toll - and a fine for $50 if the bill goes unpaid. Gotham Bus Co Posted September 29, 2010 Share #2 Posted September 29, 2010 I wish that Bridges & Tunnels had been transferred to NYCDOT, so that the toll revenue could stay within the city.
Joel Up Front Posted September 29, 2010 Share #3 Posted September 29, 2010 People that don't really travel on the city's highways and bridges are going to pay for this, hard. I don't know what the MTA is thinking of here.

aemoreira81 Posted October 1, 2010 Share #5 Posted October 1, 2010 This is already done in North America on Highway 407 in Ontario (the 407 ETR just outside Toronto); to me, the MTA should contract out operations to a private firm paid a fixed fee to operate and maintain the bridges and tunnels. The MTA would keep the revenue. The better part is that you can have the toll collection point anywhere on the bridge. But unless it denies registration renewals, it will be without teeth.
