Pakenhamtrain Posted December 29, 2010 Share #3 Posted December 29, 2010 The economy has already taken a hit. There were floods in NSW and northern Victoria which took a bit of a dint in what was to be the best crop in years. The affect all this has is we pay for for our food bills. It will bounce back quickly though. Coal and Iron ore is still being moved in other states at rapid rates. Which is really what the economy runs off. The silly thing is at the Southern end of the country we're due for a 38c and a 31c I think part of the second verse of "My Country" sums it up the past few years: I love a sunburnt country,A land of sweeping plains, Of ragged mountain ranges, Of droughts and flooding rains. Pakenhamtrain Posted January 13, 2011 Share #10 Posted January 13, 2011 This morning the Brisbane River peaked at 4.46m at the high tide. While some 5,000 homes were saved due to it being lower some 11,000 homes have been affected. The Brisbane CBD is a ghost town. Power is off in many areas affected for safety. Overnight part of the riverside floating walkway broke away and headed down stream. 2 tug boats prevented the 300m section from smashing into the supports of the gateway bridge. The death toll has risen to 13. At Ipswich the river peaked at 19m. Half of Ipswich was flooded. Map of flooded areas: http://www.abc.net.au/reslib/201101/r700541_5364816.pdf In terms of public transport. Very limited bus services are running along with very limited trains. Because the QR depot at Mayne was under threat trains were parked on the mainlines.

I am very sorry for the events down under and for the victims who may have died. With that said and not meant to be rude but, the flooding situation has gotten little or no coverage here in US. Almost all of the attention these past few days here has been on 1)Tragic shooting in Arizona, USA 2)The Eastern US snowstorm.
