Guest lance25 Posted January 14, 2011 Share #1 Posted January 14, 2011 I'm surprised nobody's mentioned this yet, but the 191st Street (IRT Broadway/Seventh Avenue) subway station (the deepest in the entire system) opened on this date one hundred years ago. According to Wikipedia, this station, along with the ones from 168th Street to 215th Street, were completed in March of 1906, but since the elevators along with other work wasn't completed yet, this station took another five years to open. EE Broadway Local Posted January 15, 2011 Share #2 Posted January 15, 2011 Happy Centennial Anniversary, 191st Street ! And, I'd like to add that from November 12, 1904 until March 16, 1906, 157th Street served as the terminal for the I.R.T. subway. During 1905, Highlanders' fans had about an eight block walk to home games at Hilltop Park from the 157th Street terminal.

EE Broadway Local Posted January 15, 2011 Share #4 Posted January 15, 2011 It's a bit of a walk through the tunnel from Broadway to the platform, isn't it? DOB2RTO Posted January 16, 2011 Share #5 Posted January 16, 2011 I though 168st was the deepest? Oh well, from 145st all the way to 191st looks 2 centuries old. Dyckman is another, but at least they are starting to rebuild that station, on the N/B side.........
Kingsbridge Bus Posted January 16, 2011 Share #6 Posted January 16, 2011 I don't get how 191st is the deepest, one stop before an elevated track, i actually thought 181st was the deepest on the
