Trainspotter 0 Posted May 1, 2008 Share #1 Posted May 1, 2008 Screech! MTA says it's 2B short in push for upgrades Straphangers may have to wait longer for station repairs and new subway cars because of another funding shortfall. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority's five-year capital plan has a $2 billion to $3 billion shortfall caused by escalating costs for labor and materials, MTA CEO Elliot Sander said Wednesday. The $21 billion plan, which expires at the end of next year, has to be amended, and some projects likely will be delayed or eliminated, officials said. "We won't be able to fund all the projects in it," Sander said atthe MTA's monthly board meeting. MTA spokesman Jeremy Soffin later said any delays or cuts would hit the so-called "core" program. That includes such things as station rehabilitations, signal upgrades and buying new subway cars, commuter trains and buses. trainfan22 2,234 Posted May 1, 2008 Share #2 Posted May 1, 2008 Yaaa the railfan window is going to last a little longer. And besides the NTT are a waste of money anyway. These trains are not even combiable with eother and the 32s 38s 40Ms can go a while longer only the slants need major work. And do not even get me started on those hidous hyshits buses with all there wasted space and boring engine sounds and other reasons why they suck. If i was running the MTA i would buy GM fishbowl buses from TTC and buy NJ transit flexibles buses. The only thing thats REALLY needed on that list is the station rehabilitations everything else on that list is just a waste of money. Esp the signal upgrades all they is going to do is put more timer signals and make the subways even slower than it already is.

Destructive air that might kill someone! Face the facts, didn't buy the hybrids for nothing. Their good for the environment.
DOB2RTO 29 Posted May 2, 2008 Share #5 Posted May 2, 2008 Whatever is paid for, or has been budgeted for will still go forward. Option 1 of the new railcars, will still go forward. New buses from Orion, will go forward (whenever accepted). The options after won't. You only can run equipment for so long, before the cost of running and maintaining them, out-cost getting new ones. All it means is the best of the old stuff will stay a little longer. We all know where money is being wasted, and all anyone has to do is look at the heads of the agency. New cars for managers at MTA's expense + fuel? Why? Limousines? For what. They should use the system they run, and they should be required to live in the MTA region. Lots of corruption here, and us workers and you, (the riding public) pays for it. I only get free subway/local bus rides. Depending on my counterparts, I might have to pay for express buses, LIRR, or MNRR. I have to pay those high tolls if I use the MTA bridges and tunnels.
