Donald Posted February 12, 2011 Share #1 Posted February 12, 2011 Anyone know when the next track worker exam is coming out? It should be this year considering that the list from the 2006 exam will expire next year, no? Also, for any current or former track workers here, what is the job like? Is it as dangerous as everyone says it is?
jmazz77 Posted February 12, 2011 Share #2 Posted February 12, 2011 don't know the answer, but i will be keeping a look out for it also. Looking for anything the MTA has to offer with out having to deal with the public.
Donald Posted February 13, 2011 Author Share #3 Posted February 13, 2011 The DCAS exam list, which only goes up until July, does not list it. So if it comes out it won't be until after July.
Locomotion69 Posted February 13, 2011 Share #4 Posted February 13, 2011 The list barely moved, and with the hiring freezes in between it's going to be awhile before the next exam. The current list has 7,119 eligibles. SpikeMauler is a track worker on here.
Donald Posted February 13, 2011 Author Share #5 Posted February 13, 2011 I always though it was the custom to give a new exam right before the list from the previous one expires?
Donald Posted February 13, 2011 Author Share #6 Posted February 13, 2011 Also, I don't think the MTA is having a hiring freeze anymore. Many posters who took previous O/C bus operator exams have indicated they have been recently called for road testing.
Locomotion69 Posted February 13, 2011 Share #7 Posted February 13, 2011 There was a Track Worker Promotional exam,#5520 so they had to go through that list first. From reading a few threads on here there was a guy with a list number in the high 700's who was going through the pre employment process a couple of months ago. if somebody who is on the track worker list(#5016) can call the DCAS automated line and find out when the list is set to expire that would be very helpful, thanks. The B/O lists have also been slowed down by the hiring freezes. The list that they are working from now are from an exam back in 2006. The 8006 list(NYCT B/O) still hasn't started yet and we took the exam back in April/08.
Donald Posted February 13, 2011 Author Share #8 Posted February 13, 2011 In another thread, someone wo took the exam said they extended the list so it now expires in March 2012 instead of expiring this month.
whattheh3ll Posted February 14, 2011 Share #9 Posted February 14, 2011 is there random drug testing with this trackworker position?
Donald Posted February 14, 2011 Author Share #10 Posted February 14, 2011 is there random drug testing with this trackworker position? Yes, all MTA jobs have drug testing before AND after your hired. You will be drug tested from the day you are called for your pre-employment medical to the day you retire.
Locomotion69 Posted February 17, 2011 Share #11 Posted February 17, 2011 Track Worker Details: For Track Worker, there is no education or experience needed to apply. Also, city residency is not required. The exam will include questions on reading and understanding instructions, using common tools, safety and proper lifting techniques, and basic arithmetic. The exam will also test candidates' abilities to read elementary sketches and drawings. The passing score is 70 percent. Track Workers maintain, install, inspect, test, alter, and repair the tracks and roadways in subways.
Locomotion69 Posted February 17, 2011 Share #12 Posted February 17, 2011 Yes, all MTA jobs have drug testing before AND after your hired. You will be drug tested from the day you are called for your pre-employment medical to the day you retire. I read on here from people who went through the process that a lot of people fail the drug testing. Gives others who might not have low list numbers a chance at least. Users are losers. MJ1 Posted February 21, 2011 Share #13 Posted February 21, 2011 Anyone know when the next track worker exam is coming out? Is it as dangerous as everyone says it is? Don't know about the exam sorry , i'm a carpenter and have worked on the tracks both tunnel and structure . First the tunnel , steel dust , dirt , feces , rats , homeless psychos . Structure , heights (not for everyone ) , breathing in fiberwalk dust . Working on the tracks can be dangerous if you don't pay attention
subway88 Posted March 11, 2011 Share #14 Posted March 11, 2011 I don't know how hard or dangerous a track worker's job might be but at least you need to have brute strength. A few years back a guy told me he was a subway track worker. He said that he didn't realize how much muscles was in his body until he started working there. He said he was using "Ben-Gay" practically everyday because he was in such pain. The guy was carrying road bed materials on the first day of the job

Donald Posted March 16, 2011 Author Share #16 Posted March 16, 2011 It terminates in 2013? I thought in 2012. If that's the case, then they will give the next exam next year since they usually give new exams before the list form the old one expires.
