TrainFanInfinity Posted August 24, 2012 Share #1979 Posted August 24, 2012 Nevins St isn't a terminal and Atlantic Avenue is impassible. Anyway, next scenario: Because of this mornings shooting at the Empire State Building, 34th Street-Herald Square is impassible. Reroute all trains, including the PATH. BM5 via Woodhaven Posted August 24, 2012 Share #1981 Posted August 24, 2012 NEW SCENARIOS!!! Medium - No trains can terminate at Forest Hills - 71st Avenue. The and must have the same TPH to Queens, reroute away. makes all stops to 67 Avenue, then layups going switching via the express track at forest hills, then go via the yard tracks.

Anyway, next scenario: Because of this mornings shooting at the Empire State Building, 34th Street-Herald Square is impassible. Reroute all trains, including the PATH. (That is not optional.) I know nothing about PATH track maps, so I'll only do the subway lines... via 8 Av Express Bedford Park Blvd - 42 St-Bryant Park (uses switches south of the station); Brighton Beach - W 4 St runs in two sections: 205 St - 2 Av via 8 Av Local, Coney Island - W 4 St via 8 Av Local/53 St; select trains can run via Crosstown if necessary; select trains run between 179 St and 47-50 Sts via 63 St runs in two sections: 71 Av - 42 St-Bryant Park, terminates on the express tracks south of the station; Metropolitan Av - Chambers St runs in two sections: Ditmars Blvd - 57 St/7 Av; Coney Island - Prospect Park or Whitehall St runs in two sections: Ditmars Blvd - Times Sq/42 St; Coney Island - Whitehall St or Atlantic Av runs in two sections: 71 Av - Times Sq/42 St; Coney Island - Whitehall St Via 6 Avenue to Lower East Side-2 Avenue. That doesn't work.
Threxx Posted August 24, 2012 Share #1987 Posted August 24, 2012 I'll solve my own scenario: : Suspended. : No trains b/w 42nd Street-Bryant Park and West 4th Street (uses switches north of station) : No trains b/w 57th Street and Delancey Street : No trains b/w Essex Street and 71st Street. : No trains b/w 5th Avenue and Pacific Street. : No trains b/w 42nd Street and Prospect Park. : No trains b/w Whitehall Street and 71st Street. PATH: Most trains run JSQ-Hobooken, others single track b/w 23rd Street and Newport.

TheSubwayStation Posted August 24, 2012 Share #1989 Posted August 24, 2012 I'll rate your solution using this system: +2 = especially smart solution +1 = good solution 0 = perfectly good, but there's a better way to do this -1 = impractical solution -2 = fowming -3 = impossible solution I'll solve my own scenario: : Suspended. -1 You can't just magically make a bunch of trains disappear from the tracks. : No trains b/w 42nd Street-Bryant Park and West 4th Street (uses switches north of station) 0 There's a better way to provide service all the way through Manhattan IMO. : No trains b/w 57th Street and Delancey Street 0 It's possible to provide service in one section (using the 8 Avenue Line), so why not? : No trains b/w Essex Street and 71st Street. -1 What will you do with the trains that are already in service? : No trains b/w 5th Avenue and Pacific Street. -1 DELAYS : No trains b/w 42nd Street and Prospect Park. -1 DELAYS. See above. : No trains b/w Whitehall Street and 71st Street. 0 Okay. PATH: Most trains run JSQ-Hobooken, others single track b/w 23rd Street and Newport. +1 Seems good to me. TheSubwayStation Posted August 24, 2012 Share #1990 Posted August 24, 2012 (edited) I'll do the same with yours: No service b/w World Trade Center & West 4 Street, Via 8 Avenue Express -1 Well, it works assuming that the runs via 6 Av, but that's not possible. Via 6 Avenue to Lower East Side-2 Avenue. - 3 That doesn't work for pretty clear reasons. Via 8th Avenue Local. -1 Since you can't send the via 6 Avenue, this would overload 8 Avenue. Besides, why would you want to have the and the switch places in the first place? No service b/w Times Square-42 Street & Atlantic Avenue-Pacific Street. +1 No service b/w Queens & Whitehall Street. +1 No service b/w Times Square-42 Street & Rector Street. +1 Total:-2 Edited August 24, 2012 by TheSubwayStation
Brighton Express Posted August 24, 2012 Share #1991 Posted August 24, 2012 TheSubwayStation, I don't think we are counting if the trains are on tracks already. I think that most of these scenarios would be f*cked if they were. It is just really to show what you would do, where you would terminate trains, where you would reroute them along. The first thing I would do with a W4 scenario is probably suspend the , and let the cover for them.

The first thing I would do with a W4 scenario is probably suspend the , and let the cover for them. If this is the case, then we have escaped all reality for the sake of making easier solutions. When an unexpected service change happens (the key word being "unexpected"), there isn't time to just magically cancel all of the trains that we don't want to reroute. Look, the for example runs 25 trains. Those trains have to be sent somewhere. We can't just say, "Oh, lets ignore those 25 trains because the is suspended." If we're do that, then we've entered fantasy land. And no, I don't agree that most of the scenarios would be "f**ked* if we counted these trains. I think my solutions usually do count those trains, and they work perfectly well. Edited August 24, 2012 by TheSubwayStation
CDTA Posted August 24, 2012 Share #1993 Posted August 24, 2012 Next: Liviona Yard and 148th St yard blow up. This means: 1. No trains can travel between 148th St, and 135th St 2. No trains can travel east of Pennsylvania Ave 3. The IRT now has 300 less cars. Re-route services, and alter TPH's as necessary.
Threxx Posted August 24, 2012 Share #1994 Posted August 24, 2012 (edited) Next Scenario: Again, due to the Empire State shooting, this time all tracks at 33rd Street on the , , and are impassible. At the same time, due to an event at Madison Square Garden, extra trains have been put into service and there is no space to reroute the train to 7th Avenue. Good luck! Next: Liviona Yard and 148th St yard blow up. This means: 1. No trains can travel between 148th St, and 135th St 2. No trains can travel east of Pennsylvania Ave 3. The IRT now has 300 less cars. Re-route services, and alter TPH's as necessary. Um... in this case the MTA would probably up the R188 order to replace those cars in such an emergency... Simplest thing to do: : Reduced service b/w 96th Street and Utica Avenue, since most cars for it are now destroyed. : Extended to New Lots Avenue. : Some trains rerouted to 7th Avenue to supplement service. I'll solve it: Utica Av - Brooklyn Bridge or Atlantic Av Flatbush Av - Brooklyn Bridge or Atlantic Av Woodlawn - 86 St, express, OR Woodlawn - Grand Central, local Dyre Av - E 180 St or 86 St (express in Manhattan) Pelham Bay Park - Grand Central Edited August 24, 2012 by TheSubwayStation

TheSubwayStation Posted August 24, 2012 Share #1998 Posted August 24, 2012 Are you saying no to the scenario? why lol Well, using your and Brighton Express's logic, this is a VERY easy scenario : Utica Av - Brooklyn Bridge, Woodlawn - Grand Central suspended, special fairy dust makes all trains disappear and transports them to 238 St Yard Pelham Bay Park - Grand Central
