Going off the clock in the middle of the day and working your 8+ hours in two parts with a big unpaid break in the middle (which is technically your time but what the heck can you expect to accomplish). Buses does it. It's a way of lengthening your day without paying overtime for your services.
Donald Posted January 19, 2012 Share #78 Posted January 19, 2012 Yes, a split shift is the worst sechedule you can have. The TSA screeners work a split shift so they are at the airport for 12 hours a day, but only get paid for 8. Not surpirsingly, they have the highest turnover rate of any federal employee. It's a bad deal. It's far better to work part time because at least when your shift is done, you can go home or go to a 2nd job. With a split shift, you can't go home unless you live really close to your assignment.
