East New York Posted December 15, 2011 Share #1 Posted December 15, 2011 DETROIT — On Tuesday Detroit Mayor Dave Bing, Gov. Rick Snyder and U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood pulled the plug on the city's $528 million light rail project in favor of a regional rapid-transit bus system. Economics was the major factor for scrapping the M1 Rail project, a proposed light-rail line along Woodward from downtown to the city limit at Eight Mile Road, reported Detroit Free Press. For less than $500M, a bus rapid transit system could cover nearly 110 miles | Detroit Free Press | freep.com

Nova RTS 9147 Posted December 16, 2011 Share #4 Posted December 16, 2011 Not surprising given Detroit's habitually anemic economy. Though with there no longer being light rail goes the potential revitalization of those areas, but hopefully I'll be proven wrong.
