KeystoneRegional Posted April 6, 2012 Share #1 Posted April 6, 2012 By The Associated Press Children in California will still be able to get toys with their Happy Meals. A San Francisco judge has dismissed a proposed class-action lawsuit that sought to stop McDonald's Corp. from using toys to market its meals to children in the Golden State. The suit had been filed in late 2010 by Monet Parham, a California mother of two, and The Center for Science in the Public Interest, a consumer advocacy group based in Washington, D.C. The suit had claimed that the world's biggest hamburger chain was violating consumer protection laws and exploiting children's vulnerability by using toys to lure them to eat nutritionally unbalanced meals that can lead to obesity. The lawsuit did not seek damages. McDonald's spokeswoman Danya Proud said that the lawsuit was without merit and detracted from "the important issue of children's health and nutrition." "We are proud of our Happy Meals and will vigorously defend our brand, our reputation and our food," Proud said in the statement. "We stand on our 30-year track record of providing a fun experience for kids and families at McDonald's." The Center for Science in the Public Interest said in a statement that it will discuss with Parham whether to appeal the case. The group called the use of toys to market food a "predatory practice that undermines parents, causes rifts in families and harms kids' health." The suit, filed in the county of San Francisco, was dismissed by Judge Richard Kramer on Wednesday. Grand Concourse Posted April 6, 2012 Share #2 Posted April 6, 2012 Good! What a friggin stupid lawsuit. Just another dumb idiot trying to milk a company for money to line her pockets and as an excuse for not bothering to teach her kids properly. Besides the toys are cheap POS anyway, buying the toys from Target or Toys'r'us is better.

CenSin Posted April 6, 2012 Share #4 Posted April 6, 2012 McDonald's should, instead, be sued by environmentalists because their crap non-biodegradable plastic toys divert otherwise useful hydrocarbons which end up feeding landfills.
KeystoneRegional Posted April 6, 2012 Author Share #5 Posted April 6, 2012 Well, in this case all Fast Food Chains having the "kids meal toy" would get sued, since Wendy's and BK is just gonna do their stuff still without being noticed...
NX Express Posted April 6, 2012 Share #6 Posted April 6, 2012 Just another dumb idiot trying to milk a company for money to line her pockets Did you bother to read the article? The lawsuit did not seek damages. Agreed about the poor parenting bit however.
Grand Concourse Posted April 6, 2012 Share #7 Posted April 6, 2012 Ok, maybe she wasn't looking to get money, but McDonalds would've probably had to pay someone if they had lost the case. This case never should've gone to court at all.
Roadcruiser1 Posted April 6, 2012 Share #8 Posted April 6, 2012 Again the solution is if you don't want your kid eating there then don't. Why do you have to have other people believe in what you believe or eat what you eat? Is it just me or has humanity always just pressurized each other to do things the way they want to do it? It's like a "I am correct and now you shall all listen to me mentality." it's very stupid.
CDTA Posted April 6, 2012 Share #9 Posted April 6, 2012 Wasn't there a case like this already?
