How to become a proper Conductor & T/O on the road

Although the MTA rules & regulations book is quite lengthy and thorough, the book outlines a very corporate perspective of Transit.

Can't help and wonder that a lot of newbies come in to the job and for lack of a better term "just do the job", without any sort of consideration of their co-worker's habits whether good or bad.

What are some of the things a rookie C/O or T/O should briefly talk about with their partner before beginning a route? What kind of unwritten rules, habits, warnings or even procedures do some people have  before beginning a job with a newbie or with somebody they haven't met before? Likely some of this stuff has been mentioned in other threads like "The Schoolcar Experience" but that's really another subject.I think knowing a bit of RTO culture could be really helpful to rookies and even veteran employees alike.
