Since the first question was answered, I'll answer the second. The MTA had a bunch of cars running around in the early 90's. The R26/28/29 are IRT trains that ran throughout the 90's retiring in 2002. The R30's were operating on specific lines like the and (the Rockaway ), but they were retired around the beginning of the 90's. The R32's were everywhere in the 90's even in the 2000's until the R160's came in shifting a bunch of them elsewhere or retirement. You'd find them on the and . There were 2 different kinds of R33's, mainline (R33) and World's Fair (R33S or R33WF). Mainline is everything but the so all of 7 Av and Lexington Av lines, World's Fair is the , don't ask me about what the differences are. The is just one of those lines that require special cars like the R188's currently running around. The R36's is another mainline train that ran in the 90's, it retired in 2003 on the as more R142/A's were delivered. The R38's was mainly running on the in the 90's and retired in 2009. Like the R33's, there were 2 different variants of the R40, the R40S (slant face) and the R40M (not slanted). Both retired officially in 2009. The R40S were mainly based out of Coney Island yard for the and East New York yard for the (still don't know why there's no circle emoji when there used to be one) and . Later in the late 90's they were running on other lines like the and . The R40M were based out of ENY for the and stayed that way until the early 2000's had them based out of CIY running along the and . From what I remember, the R42's were mainly an ENY train running along the lines, they had appearances along the Queens Blvd line like the , but these were later on. The R44's were pretty much just on the and as well as the until it got discontinued during the early 90's, nothing much else during those times. The R46's were based out of Jamaica yard all throughout the 90's along the . The R62/A's were mainline IRT trains all over for all 7 Av and Lexington Av. They didn't appear on the until the 2000's when the R142/A's were being delivered in the late 90's Last but not least are the R68/A's, really nothing different from today's service, they were and still are based out of both Concourse and CIY. The has always had them since its introduction and Concourse loves them and CIY had them running along the and . I don't think they ran them on the until in the late 2000's. These are all the trains that ran during the early 90's with extra info just for the fun of it, I do hope someone can correct me on all this in case I got something wrong or missed a few things.

zacster Posted December 21, 2023 Share #12 Posted December 21, 2023 With the route swaps because of the Manhattan Bridge it's hard to remember what ran where. One thing I remember is driving on the Belt Parkway across CI yard and seeing all of the slants signed up for whatever was running on the Brighton Express at the time, when previously it had been R68s the prior week. Sure enough, Monday morning came and it was all slants. Not sure what was switched with what though.

Sure enough, Monday morning came and it was all slants. Not sure what was switched with what though. Yeah the (Brighton Express) had R68As and the (West End) had R40 Slants. Then it was switched at some point in the mid-late 90s. Then in 2001, you had: - Concourse R68s serve both the (2500-2715) - Coney Island R68s assigned to the (2716-2915), with two or three trains on the (which was mainly assigned R32s and R40S cars) - The Brighton Express used R40Ms and R40S cars. - Coney Island R68As to the (plus one R40S and one R68) Edited December 22, 2023 by darkstar8983
zacster Posted December 22, 2023 Share #14 Posted December 22, 2023 When both sides of the Manhattan Bridge were finally reopened the B Brighton Express ended up with the slants and the Q with the R68s. Then as the R160s came in the R68/A went to the B and the Q got the R160s, except those were taken off the Q and replaced with what they have now, the R46s which are in terrible shape. My guess is the next move will be the R160s go on the B and the Q gets the R68 because of 6th Ave CBTC but only when there are enough R211s.
