Dave160 Posted February 5, 2009 Share #1 Posted February 5, 2009 Do you think that the MTA would ever re-open the abandoned platforms at Hoyt-Schemerhorn for some reason? If so, why? Also, was it ever used for something? Why was it closed?
mark1447 Posted February 5, 2009 Share #2 Posted February 5, 2009 Its closed because the old Court Street Station was converted to the Transit Museum in the 60s or 70s i think. So there is no point of having trains run on those tracks if the museum cars are stored there
Mikey IND Posted February 5, 2009 Share #3 Posted February 5, 2009 i think they still use it for movies and t.v. shows. I'm pretty sure one of the subway scenes from "the warriors" was shot there.
Y2Julio Posted February 5, 2009 Share #4 Posted February 5, 2009 http://www.columbia.edu/~brennan/abandoned/court.html i think they still use it for movies and t.v. shows. I'm pretty sure one of the subway scenes from "the warriors" was shot there. It was most recently used for the remake of The taking of the pelham 123 which comes out this year. Eric B Posted February 5, 2009 Share #6 Posted February 5, 2009 One of the Manhatan Bridge alternatives was to run parallel tracks connecting the local track there with the ones at Jay St. That way, 6th Ave. service would have direct access to the Fulton local tracks without having to cross to the express from Jay to Hoyt. this was rejected as too disruptive to the area above (such as acquiring property, but ironically, developers now want to mow everything down around there anyway) I don't know what they would do about the express having to open on both sides at Hoyt, but with eventually all cars having full width cabs, it wouldn't be a problem then anyway. Tbirdbassist Posted February 5, 2009 Share #7 Posted February 5, 2009 I also remember reading somewhere that another line from Manhattan was to come through into Court St. It was part of the Second System. I think that was the plan for the 2nd Ave Subway ext. to Brooklyn.
