  1. NICE is having their Community Meetings at the Mitchel Field Depot on September 27th. This will mark the first presentation done by the new CEO. https://www.nicebus.com/Passenger-Information/Community-Meetings
  2. Who's bright idea was it to have the n1 and n6 share the same stand as the Q43 on Hillside Avenue and 168th Street?
  3. NICE just released their new schedule for the Fall. They're giving the n31/32 headway management treatment, adding Hicksville-Roosevelt Field trips on the n22, and giving the n16x lots of service between Hempstead and NCC. https://www.nicebus.com/Passenger-Information/Summer-2018-Schedule-Changes
  4. The NICE Link is mostly for the areas of Bellmore, Merrick and East Meadow that lost the n45, n46, n50 and n51.
  5. NICE started their new Uber Service in the Bellmore, East Meadow, and Merrick area this week. http://longisland.news12.com/story/38742592/nice-unveils-on-demand-bus-service-through-mobile-app
  6. I can only guess that NICE gained a confidence boost from working with County Executive Laura Curran and her Deputy Helena Williams to come up with a vision for transportation in Nassau County. A lot of it hinges on the downtown revitalization project going on in Hicksville, that new Islanders Stadium being built at Belmont Park near the LIRR station, and the County doing something with the area around the Coliseum actually coming to fruition. They most likely plan to buy coach buses for their proposed service to Grand Central and Wall Street.
  7. NICE updated their website and released a plan for the future to go with it. They want to redevelop the Hempstead Transit Center, add more express service, and offer direct service into Manhattan. https://www.nicebus.com/About-NICE/Transit-Development-Plan
  8. A NICE Bus got into a nasty accident with an SUV on Woodfield Road in West Hempstead yesterday. https://patch.com/new-york/malverne-lynbrook/suv-collides-nice-bus-injuring-several-people
  9. NICE's Summer Schedule will take in effect on June 24th. The biggest service change to occur is the n40 getting 24 hr bus service between Hempstead and Freeport starting this Sunday. I have no idea why older schedules are being posted for the other 9 routes. http://nicebus.com/Passenger-Information/Customer-Advisory-Committee.aspx
  10. NICE just introduced their new LINK service for the Bellmore, East Meadow, and Merrick area. http://www.nicebus.com/Passenger-Information/Safety-and-Security-(1).aspx
  11. Summer Service for the n88 will be hourly this year. I'm guessing that they will be using the articulated buses to handle the large crowds coming off the Freeport LIRR station. http://www.nicebus.com/Maps-Schedules/Jones-Beach-Summer-Service.aspx
  12. The stop at Greenwich and Totten Streets in Hempstead is getting more usage ever since the Mineola bound stop got eliminated in April. It's definitely faster and frequent, but I wish NICE would have the n40/41 end service at 1 am as there are still people bound for Roosevelt and Uniondale coming off the n6 from Jamaica at that time.
  13. This will definitely come in handy for late nights when I have to catch the LIRR.
  14. This is why I started taking the Q32 from Manhattan to 74th Broadway at nights. The is pretty useless nowadays as an alternative to the Queens Blvd Lines with signal malfunctions. I can already see the and being slammed as a result of this service change.
  15. I already see NYC buses, and a NICE bus at Mineola today for shuttle service. The farthest the n27 goes on the North Shore is Glen Cove while the n20H doesnt really serve that whole area north of the LIE as it only stops at the colleges.
  16. The City of Long Beach is cutting weekend bus service, and service to Point Lookout because it's running out of money. http://www.fios1news.com/longisland/local-long-beach-may-soon-run-out-of-money#.Wt6LdGEh1dg
  17. I saw an Orion V running Westbound on the n6 @ Westiminster Road/Hempstead Turnpike on my way home today.
  18. Nothing can be done to speed up the M31/57 aside from congestion pricing to keep Uber out of the Midtown Area during the day. When I take the M31 or M57, it always seemed faster on the West Side. 57th between 8th and Lexington Avenues seem to be where the buses get stuck in traffic the most due to either construction in the area, or the sheer amount of cars and Taxis clogging 57th.
  19. None of the Orion Vs are in service at the moment. The RVC Depot shut down last year because of budget cuts and there's no chance of it being reopened because Luxury Condos were built around the N. Centre Avenue area. It's less NIMBYism and more gentrification around RVC. All routes currently operate out of Mitchel Field Depot and most of the routes use either the Orion VIIs, or the New Flyers.
  20. Was Hicksville really supposed to be the original location for an intermodal center?
  21. Weird. Bus Time already shows Central and Virginia as a stop on the Q113. It's the same one the n31/32 uses, but I guess the DOT hasn't updated the bus sign.
  22. The 113/114 arriving at either Jamaica or Far Rockaway in bunches and leaving in bunches with the next bus roughly 8 miles away levels of service gaps. I don't know if Dollar Vans are still operating on 147th and Far Rock because I don't live in the area anymore, but I've been hearing that ridership on the Q111 has grown over the years because the MTA hasn't tampered with the route. They turned the 113 into a Limited Only route and called the old 113 locals the 114.
  23. The funding went into filling a gap in the budget, which means no fare hikes or service cuts. The only concrete service change they gave was eliminating 11 out of 60 stops on the n40/41, and changing the way it goes thru the Hempstead Transit Center to reduce bus bunching.
  24. I don't know. I've heard lots of complaints about the Q113/114 having large gaps in service ever since the MTA made both routes became Limited. It's getting to the point that people are using the n31/32 to 5 Corners and taking the n4 for service to Jamaica.
  25. I don't know. I just came from the meeting and they're more optimistic about stabilizing service and expanding it in the future, especially around the North Shore and Southeast Nassau now that they have funding.
