This may sound kinda weird, but how are the B cars constructed? It seems there's less room on both ends but the doors are in the exact same place as on the A car, unless the doors are moved or the B cars are shorter?

The ends have extra electrical cabinets for the various LCD screens and security cameras. Its also why the end seats have been removed.

    "working as designed"

Propulsion and brake issues with the pilot R211 that caused its 30 day test to be completely reset is "designed"? Along with the previous LED door lights issue that caused the train to be taken OOS at Euclid Ave? I severely doubt that.

Those are all typical early teething issues

  3. If the R211 has failed the 30 day test multiple times, then who let the first production set go out to Broad Channel test track for burn in tests earlier in the week on what would have been day 31? Shouldn't that not have happened if the pilot set was nowhere near completing the test?

Why does the (W) have a late night program? You can tell it's late night because of the lack of (5)(B)(C)(D)(M) and 42 St (S) transfers along with the (R) missing under 57 St and Lexington Av-63 St (which is the free transfer to 59 St). What's also weird is there's no (4) transfer at Lexington Av-63 St yet there is one at Canal St and Union Square.

The time is separate from the programs. IIRC, if the crew selects an interval (aka departure time) during the overnight hours the transfers listed change.

So it's going straight into regular service or are they waiting for the 30 day test to end? It's a 5 car set so it's not gonna go in until another set comes in but does this mean they have good hopes now?

There's more cars waiting by the Goethals so it won't be long regardless

It is real, I just saw confirmation. Also apparently the (N) to Forest Hills and subsequent Queensboro Plaza rebuild has been pushed to next year.

Just run the (M) to 96th St, shut down 63rd St entirely, and call it a day. I don’t know why their doing all this extra nonsense

They're trying to give Roosevelt Island service in at least one direction for as much as possible to reduce the number of shuttle buses needed.

I don't know if any of you noticed this, but when the train is approaching the station, it's "This is" screen is more similar to the ones found on the R160/R179. The R211T's have this, and I think I saw the R211A's with this during testing. It was supposed to show transfers, the next stop, elevator and staircase/escalator locations, and current car. Maybe it has been reprogrammed? I don't know, but images will be attached below give an example of what I mean.

Last I heard they were still gathering the data for those maps.

There'd be no way for the media to know unless the MTA did a press release (meaning we'd also know outside of this forum), so there'll probably be no media involved just like the R179 first runs.

It could also be through the Governor's press office if she's in attendance

Does this mean that more (R) trips will need to deadhead from City Hall lower level or Coney Island Yard? Likely, those (R) trains will need to lay up at Coney Island Yard then come back early AM before the morning rush to start service, unless the MTA plans to start Manhattan bound (R) service from 71 Av later, at around 7AM, to allow the first thru-trip (R) from Bay Ridge-95 St to 71 Av to make the trip

They're going to have the same number of overnight layups; they're just going to be between Queens Plaza and Forest Hills instead of between Forest Hills and 169 Street because those tracks will be a part of the QBL East project.

Do ya'll think when an R211 train is re-routed, they'll change the bullet color to the trunk line the train is rerouted to (for instance, a (Q) via 6th Avenue would appear as (Qorange)). I doubt it, but that would be really fun and make subway nerds go crazy when they see a blue (F) or orange (E) ect.

I would love to see that (I think we should use trunk colors for reroutes much more often) but the suits strongly disagree

Obviously, there aren't enough dollars to do EVERY station  on this list in our lifetimes, unless billions are invested to do this, but some of these stations are terminal stations that should in my opinion have ADA Accessibility. the rest of the stations listed are to plug in service/accessibility gaps in the neighborhoods, or area immediately next to important city destinations and hospitals. If I missed any stations, please let me know, or bold stations on my list that you all agree with.

I agree with this take. My biggest gripe with the ESI program is 1. that those stations didn't get ADA accessibility as part of the work and 2. instead of continuing with other stations on each line (except for the Astoria line) they just did a few random stations and failed to capitalize on the momentum.

Now we're not going to implement all the stops on your list at once but it could probably be done in four or five phases of 20 or so stations at a time. For example on the (7) you could probably do 33rd/52nd/103rd then 40th/69th/111th followed by 46th/82nd/Mets. IIRC this is how Chicago was able to get so many elevated stations done at once.

I'm honestly worried they're gonna find a way to delay it until 2024 at this point. With the MTA, silence when approaching the expected date of some sort of major event (new station, new cars) usually means a delay.

You're not going to hear a peep until someone inevitably leaks the memo from car equipment about the 30 day revenue test starting. It's how it always works with new subway cars.

  13. Update on the pilots at this hour:

Both 4040-4049 and 4060-4069 are at Pitkin

4050-4054 is at Coney Island for final fit out (gangways, third rail shoes, etc, etc)

"The cars to be purchased under Option 1 will provide replacements for the R46 fleet that runs on the A and C lines."

This means that the (A)(C) lines will still be using r46s even after the r211 base order is completed. The r46s are not leaving these lines until the 1st option order arrives. The base order is for fleet expansion, not just replacement.

While this is technically not wrong, (the (A) and (C) will in fact receive Option 1 cars) the majority of Option 1 will be going elsewhere.

    Why would it bother riders?

Trains stopping in different positions depending on the consist becomes an operations nightmare very quickly...

Its why the R40s and R42s got removed from the (C) in 2008. They only had door panels in the #2 ends of each car which in an 8 car consist means you have to operate in 5/3 instead of 4/4. (C) train stations did not have conductor boards set up for 5/3 so R40/R42 consists had to stop at the 10 car markers while R32s and R38s continued to stop at the 8.

The current situation with a clear visual difference between the two fleets is not ideal but manageable in the short term.
