  1. Either colleges and universities are places of interest or they're not.

I'd argue that over the last 118 years we've already established the precedent that they are and if they're within reasonable walking distance, I don't see an issue (Naming both Franklin and President after Medgar Evers was a bit much though)

I'll also second the renaming after malls and hospitals especially Queens Center

Hi, I was wondering, did the (J) and (Z) lines use the newer R160A sets with the new Marc Jacobs ad-wrapped on car body numbers #8409-#8412 and #8453-#8456 yet? I’ve heard that they’ve been using those sets a lot on the (M) line now a days. And, I know that the (J) and (Z) lines usually share the same equipment models with the same, exact body numbers of the R160A sets from the (M) line.

That ad wrap is specifically for the (M) line only. It's likely part of the ad contract.

Over in Philadelphia, one of the things they are considering for their Regional Rail redesign is having Amtrak trains function as the express trains, and off-peak would be all-local service on the SEPTA end, but you could use your SEPTA ticket on Amtrak if you lived near an express stop. (I think the scheduling would be in a way that makes the Amtrak trains come consistently every hour, compared to now where they run at fairly random times).

Not saying that its impossible to do here, but the situation in SEPTA land is different because the service in question is run by Amtrak for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania which funds it. They can simply say we'll pay you to run a train every hour in a way that the MTA couldn't unless it involves the Empire Service (which is funded directly by New York State).

Honestly, NTTs have spoiled the majority of the workers. Before NTTs operators and conductors were doing fine. Alas, the operators and conductors who operated R160s on the (N)(Q)(W) have protested about this, and there have been increased complaints.

It's not a question of "spoiling" workers.

They had additional workers stationed at terminals whose job was specifically changing rollsigns to make sure that they were correct. Those positions were axed in the 2010 budget cuts and never came back, hence its now a problem.

I see them more likely sending 22's to (A)(C)(E)(F)(R)and then sending the 160's to (B)(D) (whch will be sufficient for the CBTC), and the 68's then on (N)(Q)(W) (Unless they decide to give the (D) something new in almost 40 years, and put some 211's there, and keep more 160's in Queens).

I could see this happening if the option orders are also open gangway. The (E)(F) could use the boost in capacity. Either way as long as the (B)(D) get some form of CBTC equipped NTT, I'm happy.

  6. Speaking of that (R) G.O.:

Even though they say that the late night shuttle from Whitehall St is suspended, the last train from Forest Hills and the first two southbound shuttle trains of the night run to 9th Avenue before the suspension fully takes effect. Caught me off guard at Herald Square tonight after I unwittingly missed the last full 95th Street train.

  7. I'm pretty sure HEETs are no longer manufactured or something along those lines...

Nah ! That’s not gonna work in New York City. Some will climb or crawl under those. Homeless/EDPs will smash those and they’ll be shattered.

Cubic makes a version of this turnstile with metal/plastic paddles. We could use those instead.

Which B18 branch? The LTD or the off peak?

Would you want the B13 using 65th St in one direction or both directions? And in reality, how hard would it be to convert BRA into two way?

Actually now that I'm looking at it closer, both B18 branches have potential problems. The LTD through Fort Hamilton may be an issue (the B8 was kicked out after 9/11 by the army) and the off peak branch could theoretically continue westbound to 92nd and 3rd however coming back east would be an issue since 92nd become one way westbound west of 4th Avenue. I would have it take the current B8 route in the area since the other streets are pretty tight for a bus.

    So I made a modification:

I extended the B13 to Avenue V to make it a true crosstown connection. The B12 still ends at Kings Highway. (Ignore the B11)

The B18 branch physically cannot make that move because 92nd Street becomes one way west of 4th Avenue

Also Bay Ridge Av on the B13 becomes one way east of 13th Avenue so its gonna have to make that turn up to 65th Street there.

No. And I hope you mean like 15 years down the line (for the bold line). It probably won’t be LFS diesels, probably hybrids or electrics, same with the xcelsior series.

The 2011s will be replaced as part of this upcoming capital program, so more like within 3-5 years

Do the XDE40s at MTV get inspected/maintained at MTV? I have the same question for the Nova HEV at MJQ.. Or when they are due for inspection or road called they go to the depot these buses was originally assigned to?

To my knowledge they're being maintained at their respective depots so that all staff (drivers, mechanics, etc, etc) have experience on both types for snow loans in the future.

That being said, I'm a little surprised that Hale and Tuskegee aren't also a part of it.

B16 - Major Net Increase In PM School Trippers

    • Twelve departures from Shore Road & 83rd Street to 60th Street will be added as follows (+12 trips)
      • OLD - 2:10, 3:00
      • NEW: 2:04, 2:05, 2:06, 2:08, 2:10, 2:12, 2:14, 2:16, 2:54, 2:55, 2:56, 2:58, 3:00, 3:02
    • The 3:55 PM trip from 86th Street & Narrows Ave to 60th Street will be discontinued (-1 trip)

Those B16 trippers always ran however they were shown in the timetable as all leaving at 2:10 and 3:00

What a wasted resource to have these school trippers. Last I checked (MTA) is not the Board of Education providing pupil bus services..

I can personally attest to every single B16 trip being slammed up to the windows. I don't know how it is for other schools.

Random thought: if 4th Avenue south of 59th street is 4 tracks, then why can't the MTA convert them back to 4 tracks to have R trains lay up there since 4th Avenue R train service is so horrible? And also open the wall after 95th Street to have trains layup past 95th Street for less delays?

That's been used for ConEd electrical now. Good luck getting that space back.

The Nova diesels for NYCT (#'s 8755-8963, which is over 200 of them) were scheduled to begin to arrive in Sept., 2021. To my knowledge none have arrived yet.   Therefore I think it's ambitious that 8964-89098 would begin to arrive beginning this November, 9 months away.

They're two separate contracts. The NYCT LFS diesels are option buses on the hybrid contract and the MTA Bus LFS diesels are a standalone contract awarded in December. The November delivery date comes from here: https://new.mta.info/document/68221 page 118

    Quote

The 135 buses are scheduled to begin being delivered in November 2022 and be completed in March 2023, for an overall period of 16
months from Notice of Award. The above delivery schedule is based on the assumption that Notice of Award will be issued on or before
    December 31, 2021.
