I dont think so - the signals are not in place for that operation. The (N) shuttle will use its regular tracks in the canonical direction, just relay on the curve.

They don't have to as long as they keep only one set on each track. It's how the R211 can test on the middle track on Sea Beach and the R179 ran back and forth testing on Brighton.

yeah, which is why I'm wondering why they didn't alter the Broadway Line work as follows:

    (N) running between Coney Island and 57 St-7 Av, then via the (Q) to 96 St-2 Av via 4 Av Express/Bridge/Broadway Express,

    (Q) suspended (shuttle buses extended to Atlantic Av-Barclays Center)

    (R) via 63 St (but still Broadway)

**I understand the reason why the (C) is moved to 6 Av. Today I took the (E) train and there was a lot of flagging on the downtown 8 Av Line (too much invasive work to allow a conga line backup of the (A)(C)(E) trains all on 8 Av Express, especially with the new flagging rules - 10mph speed restrictions through work zones and extended work zones distances).

They don't have enough buses to do an Atlantic-Coney Island shuttle bus. Traffic on Flatbush between Grand Army Plaza and Atlantic makes it virtually impossible to do it in under an hour each way which means you'd need like 50 buses out there minimum (not counting buses already at each terminal.)

"Plattsburgh, United States, October 18, 2022 — Nova Bus, a member of the Volvo Group and a leading North American transit bus manufacturer, is delighted to announce it has been awarded a contract for five LFSe+, the 40’ long-range 100% battery electric bus model of Nova Bus, by the New York State Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA). The first delivery is expected by the fourth quarter of 2023. The buses will be assembled at the Nova Bus facility in Plattsburgh, New York State."

From 2010-2015 there were about 2-4 R160s on the (R)then around 2016 or 2017 they started using the R160s on the (R) on weekends from Jamaica yard ( Laid up (E)(F) R160s) making the (R) half and Half on weekends and during the week about the same 2 to 4 sets.

On a side note, it wouldn't surprise me if CIY does this with the (N) and (Q) on weekends once the (B) gets techs for 6th Av CBTC.

If this question was answered before, then I apologize in advance.

When was it decided for the R62A's on the (6) to lose the signage LED's. I saw some whole train sets without them so I was curious.

A combination of vandalism and the components failing

I'm interested as to how you did the math for the (C) getting 10 car trains, but working off of that, you'd need at least 335-350 R-211's from the first Option Order to displace the R-68's currently assigned to Concourse. That'd leave you with about 175-190 cars left from the first Option order (580-595 cars from the 2nd Option Order not counting the 4 car sets meant for ENY) to place where ever the (MTA) deems where they're needed most.

Assuming 1:1 replacement of R46s on both the (A) and (C), that leaves 92 R179s assigned to the (C), which divided by 8 is 11.5; 11.5 times 10 is 115. By that same method, 268 R68s at Concourse divided by 8 is 33.5; 33.5 times 10 is 335.

The (B) is a little trickier but assuming a similar spare factor as the (D) (268/232=1.16), 6 trains of R68s + 19 trains of R68As is 25 trains times 1.16 is 29 trains, and we can round that up to a nice even 30 trains and 300 cars, cascading R160s from Jamaica. Of course with the trains set aside in the R211 options for fleet expansion, I'd expect all three yards (Concourse, Pitkin and Jamaica) to have more cars; these are just minimum figures.

Unfortunately, I don't think we'll be seeing the (C) not being mixed length trains any time soon. I would assume it's going to stay like that until the order options of the R211's come in.

By my (rough) calculations, the (C) would require the first 115 cars of option 1 to become 100% ten car trains. The remainder of option 1 and option 2 can then displace R68s on the (D) to the (N)(Q)(W) and R160s on the (E)(F)(G)(R) to the (B) (to then move over its R68/As), with additional cars for fleet expansion at all 3 yards. The R179s from the (C) and the 4 car R211 sets in option 2 can then bolster the (J)(L)(M)(Z) fleet.

  8. Could I get two station signs and an entrance sign please:

Downtown (teal 8) 2 Av Local

                                      to Hanover Sq, all times

Uptown & the Bronx  (teal 8) 3 Av Local

via 2 Av                                     to Gun Hill Rd, all times

and in the style of this sign:
    800px-E96_St_IND_SW_entrance_jeh.jpg

    55 Street (teal 8)

    Subway Station     (E)(M)(6) via passageway

    Thanks!

According to what I was taught in Schoolcar, if both panels in a single doorway are cut out, the train has to be taken out of service. TSS made a point of ensuring we check the other panel in the pair.

meanwhile a train with a completely isolated car can remain in service... Why not just have me isolate the car with the two busted panels and save the train?

I rode an R179 on the (J) where this happened. The conductor isolated a car because it lost indication at Fulton Street and kept the train moving after that.

When will the R211 sets start to arrive? We still only have two test sets (enough for a full 10 car train), but who says other sets cant be delivered while these two are testing.

They'll give the go ahead for Kawasaki to ship production cars after the pilot set passes its 30 day test

They pushing the fact that the bus is battery electric and bc it blew up (note, this is not the first time a battery electric exploded out of nowhere) that means they suck and we need to keep diesel powered vehicles on the road.

The specific chemistry of the battery is the issue here. Lithium-ion (aka Li-ion) batteries have issues with high air and surface temperatures, however I will note that the lower power density lithium iron phosphate (aka LiFePO4) batteries in modern trolleybuses for off wire use don't have the same problem because their chemistry is different.

I would suggest that agencies look towards using in-motion charging trolleybuses, stringing up overhead wires where many routes cross or share the same street (Flushing, Ridgewood and Downtown Brooklyn come to mind) to charge the (less likely to catch fire and lighter weight) onboard LiFePO4 batteries for the rest of the route off wire, while moving.

Actually all they did now is shift the issue to Broadway. If Broadway shits the bed (as you say), the (R) can get rerouted via 6 Av, but the (N)(Q)(W) (assuming the (W) is still running in the future) will be f**ked. And with the (N)(Q) trains stuck unable to go into Manhattan due to no other lines being able to accommodate the SMEE cars, trains will get stuck in Brooklyn (Prospect Park for the (B)(Q) and at either 36 St or Atlantic Av Barclays Center for the (D)(N)). And yes, Lexington has to be done in tandem with 7 Av, but in my opinion, Broadway and 6th Av should have been done simultaneously, order enough R211 cars to just finish off all the old cars to prevent this catastrophe. Its one thing when there's only one trunk line where SMEE cars cannot run on (Queens Blvd), but its something else when now the SMEE cars CAN ONLY RUN on one trunk line (in this case, Broadway), because the NTT cars can run in fixed-block territory, but SMEEs cannot run in CBTC territory. And if the older cars are retrofitted with modernized signaling, then might as well keep the R68s on the (B)(D), shift R160s from Jamaica to Coney Island, and give Jamaica / Pitkin / 207 St the R211s for the (A)(C)(E)(F).

They're referring to the R142/As as "older cars" in that document.

It will take years for ridership to get back to the way it was, which is why all these unnecessary projects such as CBTC, R211’s, etc etc are not a priority.

What on earth are you talking about? Weekend ridership is already poised to match or even surpass 2019 by the end of the year and weekdays are routinely hitting ~60% of 2019 levels and will probably hit 70% maybe even 80% by the end of the year. Many individual stations are hitting 80%-90% of 2019 ridership daily. This idea that the subway isn't busy anymore is nonsense. Not to mention the R46s and our ancient signal systems are literally dying as we speak. These projects are of paramount importance.

Some of these comments are on here just make me laugh.

The "Oh no one will return to office work" Virginia likes to say hello (Governor lied and is making people go back to office work.)

Yeah it won't be like pre pandemic but It's not as bad as you guys make it out to be. Y'all said the same shit back in 2010 when they did the cuts. "oh ridership isn't gonna grow" and then within a year areas in north Brooklyn shot up in ridership.

You can't predict the future because shit changes.

    This, all of this.
