  1. We practiced call ons and key by at Livonia yard on two seperate days while in schoolcar. I dont know about the derailment possibilities, but they didnt even hesitate on letting us do it! Cool! Hope everyone passed!!! Congrats dude!! Welcome to the road! Try not to learn a lot of bad habits!!!
  2. Saw a schoolcar class practicing call-ons and key-by at Livonia yd. Brought back memories!! Keep up the good work guys/gals!
  3. Nice!!! Funny, i was just thinking about opto. How do you get to do OPTO training?? I would like to be opto qualified...gives me a little more flexibility!
  4. I was thinking the same thing, like ive been on that line quite a few times already so why not....but then i thought what if something goes wrong. I didnt wanna take that chance!
  5. So ive been out of schoolcar for almost 3 months now and two different dispatchers have offered me students!! I told them both i was only a few months out of schoolcar and one told me if i feel confident enough in my operation that he would give me the student. I feel very confident in my operation, but i dont feel im at the level where i should be taking students when im just 2 months out! Curious, would anyone here thats still on probation have taken the student???
  6. Wow...10 TA classes since November! They really are hiring a lot!! Congrats to all in and just passing schoolcar. We've been on our own for two going on three months now and everyday is a new learning experience! Take your time...respect signals cause if not they will smack u up!!
  7. you can download the Rulebook PDF from tens website and other files as well......HOWEVER you must have the actual rule book with you at all times. You cannot reference the rule book from your electronic device while on duty on the train. A classmate of mine was sorta reprimanded while in schoolcar for not having his actual version of the book. Some tss'/superintendents won't say anything about it while in schoolcar, but there is a distraction bulletin which states you can be taken out of service and possibly terminated if any electronic device is even seen while on duty other than in the crew rooms. Just be careful guys and gals! Congratulations to all those passing schoolcar!! Hope to see ya on the road soon!
  8. You should be getting your first check on 7/4/13...might be wrong, but I believe that's a pay week
  9. Congrats medic and welcome to the road! How did the rest of your class do?
  10. Found my name on the pick sheet. Surprisingly theres about 30 people behind me!!! I know that doesnt do anything much for me as far as getting a "good pick", but i expected to be like 2nd from the bottom..lol
  11. They taught us in schoolcar not to be in a rush to work an RDO, just as you guys r saying. However, it is up to the individual T/O if they wanna risk it. I've been thinking about it, only cause I would like to bank another day or two but i am very hesitant. Things been going well on my regular shift and i dont wanna mess anything up!
  12. Congrats Medic. As long as you didnt have to take the retest your good! One more step for you guys!
  13. I think you're ok. There really is no telling how much seniority you would've had. Me personally I would've probably done the same only to give my previous job the proper notice. Only thing you might have to worry about is if something were to come up and they would have to postpone the class, but that isn't gonna happen
  14. aw man....people do not use anything you find online, especially regarding signals, as a study guide. Yeah some of it might have the correct definition, but why use something unofficial what the TA gives you official and efficient study guides. You will have plenty of time to learn the signals, as long as you put in the effort needed. As said earlier, pay attention, ask questions and put your best effort forward and you will be fine
  15. we've been out for a month! Time really does fly down in transit. So far everyone I've met has been really cool and ready to offer advice or information if needed. Only bumped into 1 conductor who was talking a little bit of ish about having probationaries. Found out he had 3 incidents in recent times with probationary T/O's, so I get why he would be overly cautious about going out with a probie, but u doubt have to be a jerk about it! All the TSS's ive met out here have been really great as well...easy to speak to, willing to offer information and glad to help. Contrary to what we've been told about the crew office, they've been pretty cool SO FAR!!! I'm sure that can change at any time!! So far I've operated on the 1,2,4 and 6 lines...all really cool. Although the 6 is my home line(I live 5 mins from parkchester and a 9 min train ride to Pelham), I can see why people don't like it. So far I really like the 4 and the 1. The 2 is tough, but not so so bad!
  16. Boo.....A division better than B...lol.jk!!
  17. Yes, and although you are measured, dont be surprised of most of the uniforms dont fit!!
  18. Direct deposit is not right away. During the fist week of schoolcar, people from hr will come and speak to your class and they can answer all those questions. First couple checks you will have to go pick up at your pay location that you choose. I got called back for medical about a month after i took my dt....that was one of the longest waiting periods i had!! The length of time varies person to person. As far as the background check, i do believe no news is good news! I make 6 months in a couple weeks and havent heard anything from them and im hoping it stays that way! It would be nice if they sent something saying you've been cleared
  19. So I worked my first G.O. job today on the 6. Was a pretty easy day. Was supposed to make three trips parkchester to the bridge, but due to the G.O i made three trips138/third ave to the bridge and one trip parkchester to the bridge. For some reason i thought i had a 10:15 report at parkchester this morning, so im at home taking my time(i live 2 blocks away from Parkchester station). Something told me to check the IVR before i left the house at 9:30..and when i called i heard "report to 177th st parkchester at 0953". Luckily i was close, but it was a reminder to me to check the ivr the day before again to make sure!
  20. Saw TSS Welsh-El and Flynn at Parkchester this morning. Im guessing you guys were there today as well @Kevinetics. Congrats at passing the practical!
  21. Definitely what Kevinetics said...dont copy or remove any pages from that 21 page booklet. They have copies of work/education history pages at 180 that you can hand in and they'll attach for you. Good luck everyone!!!
  22. Had my first experience with a sick passenger today on the 2 train today. Someone had a seizure in the 4th car of my train. Was held up at wall st for almost half hour....turned that 1½ ride down to Flatbush a 2 hour ride. Lots of angry passengers!! I'm sure it wont be the last time....hope the passenger is ok!
  23. That was you guys at E180th at like 13:45?? I was operating right behind ya
  24. Yes, that's right....Gherigfan1 is correct. I had it wrong in my comment..I brought it just in case, but it isn't necessary if you have a valid NYS ID
  25. Yes. I don't think its a deal breaker if you've never applied for one, but if you have one you need to bring it
