  1. Taylor is my homie!!! Really great guy and as everyone said, he's full of information on transit and knows just about everything about the trains! We had him for a week when Cox was on vaca and although at times I felt the info he was giving us was a bit unnecessary, it was definitely a pleasure to have him. You guys are in good hands!!
  2. How much longer do you guys have left in schoolcar? Are you all excited to get out on your own?!
  3. Although for your position of T/O you don't necessarily need the rules of dispatchers, TSS, conductor etc...it is essential you learn the rules of their titles as well. Start with chapter 1, read that thoroughly! Its hard to grasp at first(at least it was for me) due to the way its written, but you'll go over it the 1st week or two of schoolcar. Of course you need chapters 2, 3 and 9 for sure!
  4. Yeah, I've never dipped my pass on the bus...I show it to the driver and he lets me on. Also as posted above, we were told we shouldn't dip it on the bus cause it might ruin it. Three trips on the 6 today. Not a bad day at all, but I guess I can kinda see why a lot of T/O's don't like working on the 6...definitely a lot of cab time!!! I personally like it(for now) cause of takes 20 mins using NYCT to get to Pelham from my house!
  5. Definitely agree with 25andout...get your eyes checked before they call you for medical and final processing. There will not be an vision/hearing test on the first visit for the dt. When they call back, which could be anywhere between a week and 3 months, then you'll need to have everything ready If i remember correctly there is a regular eye chart, then you'll have to sit at a computer type machine and identify different things. The doc will give you instructions on what they are looking for
  6. No its not the typical eye chart...a little bit extra stuff
  7. More road posting?? Didn't you guys just get back from posting? Was on the 4 for 2 weeks...one thing I learned is while that express run in Manhattan is awesome, it absolutely SUCKS during rush hour when you're following other trains!! And also learned why its so important to get your rest. Its very easy to nod off underground...very scary!!!
  8. Congrats....welcome to the hall of fame club!!!!!
  9. Sorry if it wasnt clear. When i called the crew office on friday, the person i spoke to said i was assigned to a job originally, but the person was set to come back so i fell to the board. He told ne to report to woodlawn for a 0408 report on 4/1/13. What i didnt know was that the assignments they had on Friday for Monday wasn't final, so i didnt call back on saturday to confirm. Apparantly i did fall to the board due to the person returning to work, but they put me in a job between the time i spoke to them on friday and when they finalized the sheets on Saturday so it was kinda my fault for not calling back. The sheets did have the job for the 0555 report when i arrived this morning. It was just a mishap on my part On a good note I got paid for 2 hours early report because the superintendent found a sheet with all of my class's jobs and on the paper it did have me with a report time of 0408
  10. Thats pretty much what happened. It was also a mistake on my part, i didnt know they would change from what they told me. The dispatcher told me also that i should've called on saturday evening again.
  11. Realized today, 4/1/13 at 3:55am, why we should take down name and pass numbers of people we speak to from the crew office. I was told by the person i spoke to on Friday evening that they double assigned my job and i fell to the board. Was told to report to woodlawn at 0408 to sit on board...fine, no problem. I get to wdl at 0350 and my name is still on sign in sheet for the job they said i was dropped out of. Of course the dispatchers at Mosh yd and Wdl know nothing about this supposed drop out so they call the crew office and they confirm that im still in the job...smh. Worst part about this situation, the job im in has a report time of 0555, so im at work 2 hours early....
  12. Yes, if there are people standing youre supposed to give up your seat to paying customers. A lot of people bring a sweater or jacket to put over the uniform jacket or shirt for that reason....or find a corner seat where you can hide the patch on the jacket against the train. Yeah, it kinda sucks to get thrown in the div you didnt want, but you might end up liking the B even with the far out reporting locations. I'm A div and i love it so far, but I've heard that people in the B really love it. Its temporary for now BX, so just stick it out till you're able to pick in the A. Sounds like something Cox would say! And its true by the way in my opinion
  13. Ahh...improper operation...got you RTOman. I've heard that term thrown around a lot. Guess thats a really big deal! Had a good time this past week posting on the 4. Tomorrow im on my own out of WDL!!!! Kinda excited! Heard some details about the 12-9 that happened the other day...pretty gruesome.
  14. Hope they werent from our class either. I havent heard anything other than a mc slip while stopped at a station. Why is that such a big deal?! I know they dont want you going bie, but if you're stopped at a sta and you mistakenly let go of the mc why do they take it so seriously??
  15. first day out of school car. I feel official now!! We are posting for today up until next thursday with a road T/O. Im guessing after that we'll be pounding the road like everyone else!
  16. Land whales.....LMAOOO!!! Yup, we met Q our first week...cool guy. Did he give you guys the guide he made? It lists point of no returns, what color aspects you'll need at key locations...etc for the A div. If not, next time u see him, ask him if he has any. It made no sensr what so ever when he gave it to us, but as we started going down the road it all started falling into place.
  17. My class is just about done. We all passed our road practical yesterday...all 10 made it thru, thank God! Crazy how fast school car went by. Last day tomorrow then we're released to the crew office Friday!
  18. Congrats bx girl! As posted before, you'll need at least a little bag to fit paperwork, binders and folders in from day 1! You will probably need a bigger bag when its time to get your tools and books from ps 248. And also when driving to any of the locations, plan to be there at least 30 mins early. Some of the instructors don't play and they will cut your time if your just 2 or 3 mins late!
  19. Wow you guys going down the road already?! Thats cool..did u get to do 59th st or 77th st? Those r some fast ass stations!!
  20. Posting midnights was tough for me! Hard to stay awake on some nights..
  21. Dude, there's a lot of things you'll see and hear that make you scratch your head.... Good luck on the signal test. Im sure youre on top of your game, so you should be good!
  22. Tackled the 62's out of Lenox today...2 trips and although I still need some adjustments in my station stops with them, i feel comfortable operating 'em! Last day of road posting tomorrow then back to school car for two weeks, then we're on our own. Hopefully we still have our original TSS's for the rest of schoolcar Yeah, road posting...2morrows the last day of that for us.
