  1. Byford in Toronto: Source: https://nypost.com/2018/04/07/new-transit-boss-might-have-the-toughest-job-in-nyc/
  2. The platforms at Richmond Valley can only fit three 75-foot cars each. Currently the last car of each train doesn't have its doors opened there.
  3. What I'd like to know is what the heck they'll be doing to Richmond Valley. Have there been any renderings?
  4. Good thing I didn't get here 3 minutes later...
  5. The is 10 minutes slower between DeKalb and Canal than going via the bridge, and that's assuming it actually shows up within a reasonable amount of time. In many cases, that transfer would add 20 minutes or more to people's commutes.
  6. And it's still glitchy as heck. Last night at DeKalb, this was the order of trains displayed: 1. 3 mins 2. 20 mins 3. 2 mins 4. 4 mins. 5. 16 mins. My guess is that the computer doesn't dynamically update the order of incoming trains.
  7. How often do those cars get SMSed? It seems like every year I hear about 32s and 42s getting sent off to SMS, but maybe there are just different batches.
  8. I recently got a private message from an individual that brings up one valid point - I do not regularly ride the Central Park West line on weekends. So I'd like to ask, of anyone who rides the line -- how does the hold up during that time period? If the trains are empty, then I'd appreciate knowing that since it would eliminate the need for a discussion regarding increased service. Thanks.
  9. That's not the point. Your reasoning is illogical; what a line does at night does not dictate its headways on weekends. Go get some actual data about weekend ridership on CPW and use it to back your argument up, if you want to be part of a constructive discussion.
  10. You really keep pushing the part-time idea, even though it is irrelevant. Service should be dictated by ridership and train loading guidelines, and not by some consideration of completely different times. By your logic, since the regular doesn't run to New Lots during nights, weekend service should be low since the is a part-time line in that area. You can keep saying the same thing over and over again (and giving people positive reputation even though I don't think that's your intention), but it's less helpful than considering actual statistics such as weekend crowding levels.
  11. Frequent enough so that the trains don't remind me of the during rush hours. Its status as a part-time line is irrelevant considering it is the only line serving CPW and Fulton local stations on weekends. Like ok, imagine we eliminated the on weekends and made the serve those local stations. Then the discussion would be about a "full-time" line. So what? We would still consider the same statistics when making proposals.
  12. More service on CPW, 6th Av, and Brighton.
  13. Yesterday I took a that had the arrow mats, but none of the other Cuomo changes. I did not note the car numbers.
  14. I've done both walks, and personally I think the Lexington one is definitely shorter/easier.
  15. https://www.timeout.com/newyork/news/the-mta-just-paid-a-group-of-geniuses-2-5-million-for-subway-fixes-030918 I'd tag someone, but that would be in poor taste. Congratulations to the winners.
  16. The married pairs that were removed from the 8-car set were combined together. So if each married pair is represented by a single letter, originally it was setup like this: ABCD EFGH IJKL and it became this: ABC EFG IJK DHL
  17. Keep in mind that those were simply my guesses, based on experience. None of the terminals in the area have high capacity, but the has always seemed to enter the terminal exceptionally slowly, more so than the or at Coney Island. If there's been an actual study of the upper limits at these terminals, I'd like to see it as it would certainly help with discussion about service in the area.
  18. These are my guesses. Look up the exact terminal capacities of Brighton Beach, Coney Island, and Astoria if you want more precise numbers. 10 (Limited by Brighton Beach) , , 12-14 (Limited by Coney Island) 14-15 (Limited by Ditmars Blvd)
  19. Some towns abhor their LIRR service so much that they give the residents the opportunity to drive to other branches' stations... The town of Oyster Bay owns a parking lot next to Hicksville station... And Oyster Bay residents certainly use it.
  20. Damn, I was really hoping to get to Aqueduct by taking the . Looks like I'll have to deal with the instead. On a more serious note, that's a fairly rare reason to close a station. I'm guessing there were some kind of power issues?
  21. About 10 minutes ago, a fight broke out on a train at Kings Highway. I do not know the cause. Stay safe if you're in the area!
  22. 6 TPH to 18 Av & 6 TPH to Kings Highway? Scheduling would be uber weird, but it could work. I would take the a lot more if they do that... Transferring from a to an at Church Av with the current setup is an experience that makes me wonder why I even put up with Culver and its BS in the first place.
  23. 15 TPH will run on the . 3 of those will end at Bedford Nostrand. 12 TPH will turn on the Culver Line. 12 TPH is way too much to fumigate while maintaining 14 trains per hour (and no matter what you do, 18 Av isn't going to turn all 12 of them). Therefore, logically they will run at least some trains via upper Culver express. Or split the between two or three Culver terminals, although that could result in uneven headways.
  24. T1A and T2A are where the bypass would be? Wow, they're quite far from each other under the yard.
