That's because when the order was made, there was more A cars than B cars. Once they were unified into 4 car sets, the extra A cars became A-A pairs. They run in a 4 car set as A-A-A-A

...except for 6206/7 which became an A-B pair and runs as A-B-A-A or A-A-B-A

    -EDIT-

If you're referring to the Staten Island cars, its because all of the cars are singles.

I saw a similar set at 135th Street yesterday.

  2. So it continues.

Yesterday, a Queens-bound R160 (Q) (car 8786) had the glitch. It got the transfers for Herald Square, Times Square, Lexington Avenue, Queensboro Plaza, and Astoria Boulevard correct, but the rest of them (except 49th Street since it was running express) had the Atlantic-Barclays transfer (2, 3, 4, D, Q, R, LIRR).

Is there any news of the (MTA) fixing this issue? Because it's gonna be a matter of time before this spreads to other lines with NTT trains.

  3. So Prince fans had decorated Prince Street station on the (N) & (R) with tributes to the pop artist. There was a variety of them.

    http://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local/Impromptu-Prince-Tribute-Prince-Street-Station-Lower-Manhattan-NYC-376753571.html

    However...

The MTA eventually removed the tributes from the interior and exterior of the station. A worker was also stationed there to make sure no one else put anything up in honor of the musician.

  4. It was built like that on purpose.

Around that area of Flatbush Av, the (2)(3)(4)(5)(B) and (Q) all run under the street. At that station in particular, you got the platform for the (2) & (3) and under the tracks is the (4) and (5). The (B) and (Q) run under the platform at Grand Army Plaza, between the (4) and (5) tracks.

It sort of feels like Nevins Street (4 stops from Grand Army Plaza) where there were provisions to make it into the express station it is today when it was a local stop a century back.

On a related note, Borough Hall on the (4) and (5) was originally planned to be a 3 track station.

  5. From now on, I'm done being nice with these ungrateful people during the rush. No more of that ladies first, elderly people first nonsense if a bus is near capacity. If the bus is no where next to being full, sure I'll let them get on first, but if a bus is close to being "full", (here in NY, once the front gets cluttered the bus is full), I'm making my way to the front of the line. I'm waiting for the S79 today at the 92st stop in Brooklyn (50% of the time, S79s bypass the stop because they let the bus get completely full at the first stop (can't save a little space for the 5-6 people at the next & last stop in BK?)

So I just missed an S79 from my B8 transfer, and the next bus comes and bypasses us because it was packed, OK, whatever I didn't care, next bus comes, packed, room in the back, 3-4 people get on, I get on, dip my metrocard, he says "the bus is full wait for the next one". I told him there's room just make them move back, he gets loud and tells me, "you can't stand in front of the white line wait for the next bus". So now everyone on the bus starts lookin at me and I'm the center of attention, one guy said, "just get off the bus", I was ready to snuff him because he had so much space around him, but I just got off because it didn't need to go any further. So next bus comes, (mind u another 3-4 women come and try to board first, so as a gentlemen, I let them get on. We get on, pretty packed, there were 2 of us pass the white line, driver said move back over the speaker, no one moved (the people that I let on first literally stood right in the front and wouldn't move back so I could board, rude ass people), so I literally squeezed my way all the way to the back of the bus. And then the person that was over the front followed. If there's room for me to pass, there's a shitload of space...

Everyone is so inconsiderate of each other. So from now on, if a bus is near "full", I'm getting on first because I know I'll be moving to the very back. Waited about 25mins for a bus, which is usually my normal commute time on the S79.

Well that sucks. I've dealt with similar overcrowding on the M86 in the past. :/

  6. That and Quill is said to recieve some soon. Maybe MHV too if XE40s get in the mix soon.

That reminds me of when non-articulated Xcelsiors operated on the M42 a few years back.

I wonder if Mother Clara Hale will get any Xcelsiors. Same goes to Tuskegee Airmen as well.

  7. This I'm doing for fun.

Video game characters do the automated announcements on the NTT's.

    (5), (7) & (W)*- Wave the Sallow

    (C) & (F)- Princess Daisy

    (G), (J), (R) & (Z)- Sally Acorn

    (E), (N) & (Q)- Mina Mongoose

(1)- Zero Suit Samus or Zelda

    Safety announcements- Solid Snake

*Will do the 96th Street/2nd Avenue announcements.

What do you think? Any other ideas besides these above? Any gaming characters for the other lines?

  8. Is the 20px-NYCS-bull-trans-J.svg.png ever going to go down 4 Av in the future?

Why did the MTA create <Q> back in 2001?

A (J) down 4th Avenue is very unlikely.

    As for the <Q>, I checked out a few histrorical maps on nycsubway.org, the line was mainly created as of a result of rehab work being done on the Manhattan Bridge (which is from a result of deferred maintenance in the 1970's and most of the 80's). The (B) and (D) ran between the Bronx and Manhattan only (34th Street-Herald Sqaure as the southern terminal). As of a result, the :75px-NYCS-bull-trans-S6_svg: was made to run between 21st Street-Queensbridge and Broadway-Laffayette Street, along with another (S) that ran between Broadway-Laffayette and Grand Street. There was also another catch that Threxx mentioned;

they wanted to maintain express service.

Note that around the time the <Q> was introduced, the (N) ran via the Montague Tubes, the (9) and (brownM) existed, the Redbirds were along with the IND/BMT SMEE's were running, and the old World Trade Center was standing months before it was destroyed by terrorists.

Also, the (W) (soon to be reactivated), ran via the Manhattan Bridge with both the (Q) and <Q> running to Coney Island via West End. It ran express along 4th Avenue.

  9. Rumor is that one is supposed to debut down by 2 Broadway for a press conference, then should be in service days after.

But of course, it's subject to change.

Interesting... I wonder if they're open it up for public viewing. I would be sure many busfans would go to Bowling Green and check out the bus itself! :)

  10. Here's an idea of mine.

If possible, send a few New Flyer D60HF Galaxy buses to Casleton, Charleston, and Yukon. They would be on the S57, 59, 61, 62, 74, 78, 79, 84, and 93.

Here's how many of the models the depots would have. The numbers are in parenthesis.

    Castleton- (30)

    Charleston- (16)

    Yukon- (20)

    What do you think? Questions/improvements?

  11. I do not like the (2) during rush hours. Every time when it's at the station it's always crowded, and you have to stand most of the time. Adding it further, it's pretty slow sometimes (with train traffic). It feels like you're on the Tokyo metro. Not only that, it looks better to ride the (3) during rush hours. More seats and a faster ride.

The  (2) sucks on weekends with its current headways. 8 minute headways will be beneficial to the (2). When the (1) was suspended entirely (2)s ran every 8 minutes and I'm surprised to see packed trains in the Bronx.

The (1) (the line I live nearby) has crowded trains on weekends when it isn't suspended.

    Service Change  Posted: 04/07/2016  4:23PM

Due to a train with mechanical problems at 42 St-Port Authority, the following service changes are in effect:

Northbound c.png trains are running express from Canal St to 59 St-Columbus Circle.

Northbound e.png trains are running express from Canal St to 42 St-Port Authority.

Some northbound e.png trains are running on the f.png line from W 4 St-Washington Sq to 47-50 Sts-Rockefeller Plaza.

Some northbound f.png trains are running express from W 4 St-Washington Sq to 47-50 Sts-Rockefeller Center.

    Expect delays on a.png, b.png, c.png, d.png, e.png, f.png and m.png service.

Note: There is no northbound e.png service to Jamaica-179 St.

    Allow additional travel time.

Been going on since 12 PM.

    Now there's this.
